A series of homo- and copolymers of acrylonitrile was prepared under radical initiation in DMF solutions. The thermal and flammability characteristics of these polymers were evaluated through thermogravimetric analyses (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and by limiting oxygen index (LOI) measurements. The thermal degradation behaviours of the polymers were assessed primarily with a view to designing comonomers, for acrylonitrile-based polymers, bearing flame retardant moieties. Broadly speaking, in LOI tests acrylic-based comonomers were found to improve fire performance. For instance, the incorporation of methacrylic acid gave a limiting oxygen index value of 26.4 at 30.9 mol% loading, and an intumescent char was produced upon burning. 相似文献

The aim of this work was to demonstrate the potential of a localized impedance measurement technique to identify and spatially localize the onset spots of polymeric coating degradation. The technique, which has not yet been applied in the field of organic coatings, utilizes atomic force microscopy (AFM) in contact mode. During the scan a single-frequency voltage perturbation signal is applied between the AFM tip and the coated metal substrate. A current response signal is registered. As a result an impedance map of the scanned region is created. The method was applied to investigation of acrylic coating degradation during exposure to UV radiation. Localized topography and impedance images revealed formation of micro-cracks in the coating layer, which gradually converted into through-the-coating defects with an increase in the irradiation time. Thus the method allowed early identification and localization of the sites of degradation onset, which was not possible using classical impedance measurement. 相似文献

This paper examines space averaging methods applied to structural level differences measured in lightweight building structures (two beam junction and single plate and beam junction). The methods studied include the averaging assuming a constant input force, the averaging based on a constant vibration level across the source element, and the arithmetic averaging of level differences. Tests indicate that a fairly steady input force can be easily produced when using an impulsive source such as a hammer; the constant input force method is then appropriate and can be used to space average level differences (the two beam structure showing a standard deviation of 0.1 dB from the averaging based on levels normalised to the force). On the other hand, acceleration levels can exhibit significant variations with position due to the low mode count and modal overlap of some lightweight elements such as timber beams. Variations in the vibration level across the source element can then be responsible for large inaccuracies in the level difference calculated from the constant level assumption, the two beams’ results showing errors greater than 5 dB at several 1/3 octave band frequencies. New determinations of the ground-state electric dipole moments of acrylonitrile and propionitrile have been made from Stark effect measurements at conditions of supersonic expansion. The measurements were made on selected Stark lobes of fully resolved hyperfine components of several lowest-J rotational transitions. The results are μa = 3.821(3) D, μb = 0.687(8) D, μtot = 3.882(3) D for acrylonitrile, and μa = 3.816(3) D, μb = 1.235(1) D, μtot = 4.011(3) D for propionitrile. The new value of μb for acrylonitrile is appreciably different from those reported previously and it has been substantiated by both ab initio calculations and relative intensity measurements. The new dipole moment implies a considerable revision in the calculated intensities of the strongest THz-region rotational transitions of acrylonitrile, to 59% of previous values. 相似文献

A Sagnac interferometer with a long-period fiber grating (LPG) inscribed in the polarization-maintaining fiber (PMF) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated for simultaneous measurement of strain and temperature. Due to the different responses of the LPG and the Sagnac interferometer to strain and temperature, simultaneous measurement can be achieved by monitoring the wavelength shifts and the intensity changes of a resonance dip of the sensor setup. The experimental results show that the achieved sensitivities to strain and temperature are 6.4 × 10− 3 dB/με and 0.65 nm/°C, respectively. 相似文献

The complicated structure of human blood has been characterized based on relaxation time, τ, and the Cole-Cole parameter, α, obtained from dielectric measurements. As previously reported by different authors, the experimental data show net deviation from the classical Debye model with certain distribution of relaxation times (Dτ). Plots of α versus width of the relaxation rate distribution of micro-particles inside the blood show that Dτ drastically affects the dielectric properties of the fluid. The mathematical function of Dτ is found to be Gaussian and we find that the α values of normal blood have net lower magnitude than that of diabetic blood. These results suggest that glucose in blood increases the broadness of the parameter α, which have significant importance in diabetic-biosensor manufacture. 相似文献

A new ferromagnetic hysteresis model for soft magnetic composite materials based on their specific properties is presented. The model relies on definition of new anhysteretic magnetization based on the Cauchy-Lorentz distribution describing the maximum energy state of magnetic moments in material. Specific properties of soft magnetic composite materials (SMC) such as the presence of the bonding material, different sizes and shapes of the Fe particles, level of homogeneity of the Fe particles at the end of the SMC product treatment, and achieved overall material density during compression, are incorporated in both the anhysteretic differential magnetization susceptibility and the irreversible differential magnetization susceptibility. Together they form the total differential magnetization susceptibility that defines the new ferromagnetic hysteresis model. Genetic algorithms are used to determine the optimal values of the proposed model parameters. The simulated results show good agreement with the measured results. 相似文献
