Lieb–Thirring Inequalities for Schrödinger Operators with Complex-valued Potentials

Inequalities are derived for power sums of the real part and the modulus of the eigenvalues of a Schrödinger operator with a complex-valued potential.     

The Webster scalar curvature problem on the three dimensional CR manifolds

In this paper, we prove some existence results for the Webster scalar curvature problem on the three dimensional CR compact manifolds locally conformally CR equivalent to the unit sphere S³ of C². Our methods are based on the techniques related to the theory of critical points at infinity.     

High order linear initial-value problems and Schauder bases

In this paper we approximate the solution of a linear initial-value problem, making use of a Schauder basis for certain Banach space associated with such a differential problem. In addition, we apply that results in order to calculate numerically the response from a structure modelled by a three degree-of-freedom mass–damper–spring system.     

Preperfect graphs

We say that a vertexx of a graph is predominant if there exists another vertexy ofG such that either every maximum clique ofG containingy containsx or every maximum stable set containingx containsy. A graph is then called preperfect if every induced subgraph has a predominant vertex. We show that preperfect graphs are perfect, and that several well-known classes of perfect graphs are preperfect. We also derive a new characterization of perfect graphs.     

The Remainder in Ruijsenaars’ Asymptotic Expansion of Barnes Double Gamma Function

We show that the remainder in Ruijsenaars’ asymptotic expansion of the logarithm of Barnes double gamma function gives rise to a completely monotone function. Fourier expansions of the multiple Bernoulli polynomials are also obtained. Research supported by the Carlsberg Foundation.     

On the sensitivity of the LU factorization

This paper gives sensitivity analyses by two approaches forL andU in the factorizationA=LU for general perturbations inA which are sufficiently small in norm. By the matrix-vector equation approach, we derive the condition numbers for theL andU factors. By the matrix equation approach we derive corresponding condition estimates. We show how partial pivoting and complete pivoting affect the sensitivity of the LU factorization. The material presented here is a part of the first author's PhD thesis under the supervision of the second author. This research was supported by NSERC of Canada Grant OGP0009236.     

Multinuclear magnetic resonance study of some mesoionic oxatriazoles containing nitrogenous exocyclic groups

¹H,¹³C,¹⁴N and¹⁵N NMR measurements are reported for four mesoionic 1-oxa-2, 3, 4-triazoles containing exocyclic nitrogenous groups. The NMR signal assignments are discussed and compared with those previously published for some corresponding oxatriazoles. The results obtained support the proposed cyclic mesoionic structures for the compounds studied. The questions of possible charge delocalization and valence tautomerism are addressed. Compound with N^– H as a exocyclic group (Fig. 1) is found to be relatively unstable, this is attributed to proton migration in the corresponding non-cyclic form of this molecule.Published in Khimiya Geterotsikiicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 9, pp. 1260–1263, September, 1995.     

On Subspaces and Quotients of Banach Spaces C(K, X)

 We study the relation of to the subspaces and quotients of Banach spaces of continuous vector-valued functions , where K is an arbitrary dispersed compact set. More precisely, we prove that every infinite dimensional closed subspace of totally incomparable to X contains a copy of complemented in . This is a natural continuation of results of Cembranos-Freniche and Lotz-Peck-Porta. We also improve our result when K is homeomorphic to an interval of ordinals. Next we show that complemented subspaces (resp., quotients) of which contain no copy of are isomorphic to complemented subspaces (resp., quotients) of some finite sum of X. As a consequence, we prove that every infinite dimensional quotient of which is quotient incomparable to X, contains a complemented copy of . A class of proper priors for Bayesian simultaneous prediction of independent Poisson observables

Simultaneous prediction and parameter inference for the independent Poisson observables model are considered. A class of proper prior distributions for Poisson means is introduced. Bayesian predictive densities and estimators based on priors in the introduced class dominate the Bayesian predictive density and estimator based on the Jeffreys prior under Kullback-Leibler loss.     

Farkas-type results for fractional programming problems

Considering a constrained fractional programming problem, within the present paper we present some necessary and sufficient conditions, which ensure that the optimal objective value of the considered problem is greater than or equal to a given real constant. The desired results are obtained using the Fenchel–Lagrange duality approach applied to an optimization problem with convex or difference of convex (DC) objective functions and finitely many convex constraints. These are obtained from the initial fractional programming problem using an idea due to Dinkelbach. We also show that our general results encompass as special cases some recently obtained Farkas-type results.
