Duality theorem for weak L-R smash products

This paper gives a duality theorem for weak L-R smash products, which extends the duality theorem for weak smash products given by Nikshych.     

Exploring main obstacles of inflexibility in mathematics teachers’ behaviour in accepting new ideas: the case of equivalence between infinite sets

This article seeks to explore the most important obstacles of inflexibility in mathematics teachers’ behaviour in accepting new ideas, especially, while encountering a new situation. In so doing, the concept of equivalence between infinite sets, which is one of the challenging issues in mathematics teaching and learning, was selected as the subject matter of the study. The participants of the study were 64 high-school mathematics teachers. To collect the data, they were exposed to a challenging new situation involving equivalence between infinite sets. Then they were interviewed regarding the decisions they had made. The analysis of the data revealed that the main obstacles to accepting new ideas by mathematics teachers were preference to well-known procedures and tendency to work with methods with a more general extensive domain of the function. In addition, while the spirit of the article seems to imply that teachers are not flexible, in terms of accepting a new method, the data on teacher choices highlighted the positive results of teacher flexibility.     

The weak theory of monads

We construct a ‘weak’ version EMw(K) of Lack and Street's 2-category of monads in a 2-category K, by replacing their compatibility constraint of 1-cells with the units of monads by an additional condition on the 2-cells. A relation between monads in EMw(K) and composite pre-monads in K is discussed. If K admits Eilenberg-Moore constructions for monads, we define two symmetrical notions of ‘weak liftings’ for monads in K. If moreover idempotent 2-cells in K split, we describe both kinds of weak lifting via an appropriate pseudo-functor EMw(K)→K. Weak entwining structures and partial entwining structures are shown to realize weak liftings of a comonad for a monad in these respective senses. Weak bialgebras are characterized as algebras and coalgebras, such that the corresponding monads weakly lift for the corresponding comonads and also the comonads weakly lift for the monads.     

On single-matrix graph-directed iterated function systems

We study graph-directed function systems where each contraction in the system has the form fe(x)=A−1(x+de), where A is an expanding matrix. We show that a certain discreteness implies the open set condition, and the latter implies the strong open set condition. Hausdorff measures and dimensions (w.r.t. a weak norm) of the invariant sets are investigated. The stationary Markov measures of the system are proved to be translation invariant.     

A class of quasi-linear parabolic and elliptic equations with nonlocal Robin boundary conditions

Let p∈(1,N), Ω⊂RN a bounded W1,p-extension domain and let μ be an upper d-Ahlfors measure on ∂Ω with d∈(N−p,N). We show in the first part that for every p∈[2N/(N+2),N)∩(1,N), a realization of the p-Laplace operator with (nonlinear) generalized nonlocal Robin boundary conditions generates a (nonlinear) strongly continuous submarkovian semigroup on L²(Ω), and hence, the associated first order Cauchy problem is well posed on Lq(Ω) for every q∈[1,∞). In the second part we investigate existence, uniqueness and regularity of weak solutions to the associated quasi-linear elliptic equation. More precisely, global a priori estimates of weak solutions are obtained.     

Yetter–Drinfeld Modules over Weak Braided Hopf Monoids and Center Categories

In this paper,we introduce several centralizer constructions in a monoidal context and establish a monoidal equivalence with the category of Yetter–Drinfeld modules over a weak braided Hopf monoid.We apply the general result to the calculus of the center in module categories.

THE NAGUMO EQUATION ON SELF－SIMILAR FRACTAL SETS

The Nagumo equationut ut=△u+bu(u-a)(1-u),t＞0 is investigated with initial data and zero Neumann boundary conditions on post-critically finite (p.c.f.) self-similar fractals that have regular harmonic structures and satisfy the separation condition. Such a nonlinear diffusion equation has no travelling wave solutions because of the“pathological” property of the fractal. However, it is shown that a global Hoelder continuous solution in spatial variables exists on the fractal considered. The Sobolev-type inequality plays a crucial role, which holds on such a class of p.c.f self-similar fractals. The heat kernel has an eigenfunction expansion and is well-defined due to a Weyl‘s formula. The large time asymptotic behavior of the solution is discussed, and the solution tends exponentially to the equilibrium state of the Nagumo equation as time tends to infinity if b is small.
