We present different simulations of primary atomization using an adaptive Volume-of-Fluid method based on octree meshes. The use of accurate numerical schemes for mesh adaptation, Volume-of-Fluid advection and balanced force surface tension calculation implemented in Gerris, the code used to perform the simulations included in this work, has made possible to carry out accurate simulations with characteristic scales spreading over several orders of magnitude. The code is validated by comparisons with the temporal linear theory for moderate density and viscosity ratios, which basically corresponds to atomization processes in high pressure chambers. In order to show the potential of the code in different scenarios related to atomization, preliminary results are shown in relation with the study of the two-dimensional and 3D temporal and spatial problem, the influence of the injector and the vortex generated inside the chamber, and the effect of swirling at high Reynolds numbers.  相似文献

This paper demonstrates that a numerical method based on the generalized simplified marker and cell (GENSMAC) flow solver and Youngs' volume of fluid (Y‐VOF) surface‐tracking technique is an effective tool for studying the basic mechanics of hydraulic engineering problems with multiple free surfaces and non‐hydrostatic pressure distributions. Two‐dimensional flow equations in a vertical plane are solved numerically for this purpose. The numerical results are compared with experimental data and earlier numerical results based on a higher‐order depth‐averaged flow model available in the literature. Two classical problems, (i) flow in a free overfall and (ii) flow past a floor slot, are considered. This paper describes a finite‐volume volume‐of‐fluid (VOF) method for simulating viscous free surface flows on dynamically adaptive quadtree grids. The scheme is computationally efficient in that it provides relatively fine grid resolution at the gas–liquid interface and coarse grid density in regions where flow variable gradients are small. Special interpolations are used to ensure volume flux conservation where differently sized neighbour cells occur. The numerical model is validated for advection of dyed fluid in unidirectional and rotating flows, and for two‐dimensional viscous sloshing in a rectangular tank. Adaptive refinement is implemented in the context of the volume‐of‐fluid (VOF) methodology in order to study the efficacy of resolving interfaces adaptively based on the local value of curvature. The usual uniform mesh VOF implementation is modified slightly to ensure accurate advection of fluxes between cells at different resolutions. Normals and curvatures are calculated accurately via height functions. Results of a series of tests indicate that in most instances the use of adaptive refinement (when compared to uniform refinement with a similar number of cells) leads to more accurate VOF advection. The results also clearly show that curvature‐based adaptive refinement leads to a distribution of errors along an interface that is nearly independent of curvature. This short note presents an improved multi-dimensional algebraic VOF method to capture moving interfaces. The interface jump in the THINC (tangent of hyperbola for INterface capturing) scheme is adaptively scaled to a proper thickness according to the interface orientation. The numerical accuracy in computing multi-dimensional moving interfaces is significantly improved. Without any geometrical reconstruction, the proposed method is extremely simple and easy to use, and its numerical accuracy is superior to other existing methods of its kind and comparable to the conventional PLIC (piecewise linear interface calculation) type VOF schemes.  相似文献

Piecewise linear interface calculation (PLIC) schemes have been extensively employed in the volume-of-fluid (VOF) method for interface capturing in numerical simulations of multiphase flows. Polyhedral unstructured meshes are often adopted due to their geometric flexibility and superiority in gradient calculation. Four analytical interface reconstruction algorithms in the PLIC-VOF method for arbitrary convex polyhedral cells have been proposed in this study. The plane interface at a given orientation within a polyhedral cell is located by four different analytical techniques. They have been tested successfully for six different geometric shapes that are common in polyhedral meshes. The computational efficiencies of the algorithms have been compared with two other published schemes in the literature. The proposed algorithms have been shown to yield smaller truncation errors with reduction in computational complexity. A numerical simulation of a 3D dam-breaking problem has been successfully performed using the proposed interface reconstruction scheme on a polyhedral mesh. The percentage of the overall computational time consumed has been assessed to justify its optimization in a real multiphase flow simulation.  相似文献

利用自主研发的CIP-ZJU(Constrained Interpolation Profile Method in Zhejiang University)高精度数学模型研究强非线性自由表面流动问题.模型在直角坐标系统下建立,采用紧致插值曲线CIP方法作为流场的基本求解器,通过多相流的方式实现固-液-气耦合同步求解,采用平衡格式的VOFVOF/WLIC:Volume of Fluid/Weighted LineInterface Calculation)自由面捕捉方法改进了原模型,利用浸入边界方法处理运动物体.利用改进的CIP模型开展了不同类型的物体冲击液面引起的液滴飞溅现象的数值模拟,重点分析液滴飞溅过程中的自由液面变形、作用荷载和物体位置等.通过数值结果与实验结果的比较验证模型的可靠性.结果表明:平衡格式的VOF自由面捕捉方法能更精确地重构自由面,本文的数学模型可精确预测强非线性自由表面流动问题.  相似文献

通过直接数值模拟方法对多泡在压力驱动下的溃灭过程进行了研究。气相满足理想气体正压模型,液相为不可压 流体,采用基于压力的方法求解多泡的两相流场。数值研究表明,在多泡流场中,中心气泡的溃灭过程明显不同于单泡,存在总体溃灭延迟现象和后期加速现象。随着周围气泡数的增多或气泡间距的减小,中心气泡的溃灭时间增长,溃灭时的压力峰值增大。结合理论定性分析发现,气泡运动不仅受远场压力的驱动,还受周围气泡诱导压力场的影响。周围气泡的诱导压力经历先减小后增大的过程,从而使受其影响的中心气泡产生先延迟后加速的特征。  相似文献

The work investigates numerically the atomization regime of a liquid injected into compressed CO2 under subcritical conditions, i.e. below the CO2-solvent critical pressure. To vary the conditions within the atomization regime whilst keeping up with realistic experimental background, ethanol and methylene chloride were selected as injected fluid and pressure was modified as well. Results first show that the jet indeed breaks up by atomization, which confirms the validity at high pressure of the breakup classification diagram. Aiming at evaluating the size distribution of the droplets formed by the jet atomization, two methods of interface tracking were investigated. Compared to the VOF-PLIC classical method, the novel sub mesh (VOF-SM) approach allows for determining smaller sized droplets without digital broadcasting.  相似文献
