In this work, we consider a frustrated two-leg spin-1/2 ladder composed of Heisenberg ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 chains, and nearest spins from different legs interact via Heisenberg type rung exchange interactions that can be either ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic in nature. The competing exchange interactions in the system lead to five different quantum phases like ferromagnetic, non-collinear ferrimagnetic (NCF), , antiferromagnetic and dimer phases. The quantum phase diagram is constructed for the Heisenberg spin-1/2 model and the phases are characterized using the correlation functions which are calculated by the density matrix renormalization group method. The photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue is a straightforward and cost-effective solution for water decontamination. Although many materials have been reported so far for this purpose, the proposed solutions inflicted high fabrication costs and low efficiencies. Here, we report on the synthesis of tetragonal (1T) and hexagonal (2H) mixed molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) heterostructures for an improved photocatalytic degradation efficiency by means of a single-step chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technique. We demonstrate that the 1T-MoS2/2H-MoS2 heterostructures exhibited a narrow bandgap ∼ 1.7 eV, and a very low reflectance (<5%) under visible-light, owing to their particular vertical micro-flower-like structure. We exfoliated the CVD-synthesised 1T-MoS2/2H-MoS2 films to assess their photodegradation properties towards the standard methylene blue dye. Our results showed that the photo-degradation rate-constant of the 1T-MoS2/2H-MoS2 heterostructures is much greater under UV excitation (i.e., 12.5 × 10−3 min−1) than under visible light illumination (i.e., 9.2 × 10−3 min−1). Our findings suggested that the intermixing of the conductive 1T-MoS2 with the semi-conducting 2H-MoS2 phases favors the photogeneration of electron-hole pairs. Eurycoma longifolia is a herbal medicinal plant of South-East Asian origin, popularly recognized as ‘Tongkat Ali’. The root extracts have been used in indigenous traditional medicines for its unique antimalarial, anti-pyretic, antiulcer, cytotoxic and aphrodisiac properties. It is an important task that fast and effective analysis methods monitor the inherent qualities of traditional herbal medicines and its corresponding extracts products as a complicated mixture system. Owing to the unique fingerprint character and extensive applicability to test sample, infrared spectral method have been used in many research fields. In this paper, we use FT-IR, second derivative infrared spectroscopy and two-dimensional correlation infrared spectroscopy (2D-IR) step by step to analyze E. longifolia and its different extracts (extracted by hexane, ethyl acetate, dichloromethane and methanol in turn). The findings indicated that FT-IR and 2D-IR can provide many holistic variation rules of chemical constituents. The structural information of the samples indicated that E. longifolia and its extracts contain a large amount of quassinoids, since some characteristic absorption peaks of quassinoids, such as ∼1700 cm−1, ∼1670 cm−1, ∼1600 cm−1,∼1500 cm−1, and ∼1270 cm−1 can be detected. This method, having its high resolution and excellent macroscopic fingerprint features, can not only supply lots of structural information of main components in the complicated system, but also can differentiate the tiny differences between the similar systems according to the macro-fringerprint characters.
