Two-dimensional numerical simulations of flow past two unequal-sized circular cylinders in tandem arrangement are performed at low Reynolds numbers (Re). The upstream larger cylinder is stationary, while the downstream cylinder has both one (transverse-only) and two (transverse and in-line) degrees of freedom (1-dof and 2-dof, respectively). The Re, based on the free stream velocity U∞ and the downstream cylinder diameter d, varies between 50 and 200 with a wide range of reduced velocities Ur. The diameter of the upstream cylinder is twice that of the downstream cylinder, and the center-to-center spacing is 5.5d. In general, for the 1-dof case, the calculations show that the wake-induced vibrations (WIV) of the downstream cylinder are greatly amplified when compared to the case of a single cylinder or two equal-sized cylinders. The transverse amplitudes build up to a significantly higher level within and beyond the lock-in region, and the Ur associated with the peak amplitude shifts toward a higher value. The dominant wake pattern is 2S mode for Re=50 and 100, while with the increase of Re to 150 and 200, the P+S mode can be clearly observed at some lower Ur. For the 2-dof vibrations, the transverse response characteristics are similar to those presented in the corresponding 1-dof case. The in-line responses are generally much smaller, except for several significant vibrations resulting from in-line resonance. The obvious in-line vibration may induce a C (chaotic) vortex shedding mode for higher Re (Re=200). With regard to the 2-dof motion trajectories, besides the typical figure-eight pattern, several odd patterns such as figure-double eight and single-looped trajectories are also obtained due to the wake interference effect. 相似文献

In a recent paper [Weng, Z.K., 2004. Coordinating order quantities between the manufacturer and the buyer: A generalized newsvendor model. European Journal of Operational Research 156, 148–161], a newsvendor-type coordination model was developed for a single-manufacturer single-buyer channel with two ordering opportunities. This paper further extends the model to the case where the excess demand after the first order is partially backlogged and both parties share the manufacturing setup cost of the second order (if happened). We show that the decentralized system would perform best if the manufacturer covers utterly the second production setup cost, which is opposite to that obtained in Weng (2004). Another extension in the present paper is that in the centralized system, the second order decision is made by the buyer based on the channel’s benefit rather than based on the buyer’s benefit as in Weng (2004). It is proved that the expected profit of the system in our paper is always larger than that in Weng (2004). In order to maximize the expected profit of the channel, two coordinated policies are proposed to achieve perfect coordination: a two-part-tariff policy for the special case that the buyer pays all the manufacturing setup cost, and a revised revenue-sharing contract for the case that two parties share the manufacturing setup cost. 相似文献

In 2006, Huang proposed an inventory model with two warehouses when the supplier offers the retailer a permissible delay of M periods, and the retailer also provides its customers a permissible delay of N periods. He then solved it without derivatives. In this note, we extend his model to complement the shortcomings of his model. In contrast to the complicated and tedious quadratic–algebraic method suggested by Huang, we propose a simple arithmetic–geometric method to solve the inventory problem. The two phase flow equations frequently used in geothermal engineering ignore capillary pressure, which results in a singular system of equations. Analysis of these equations reveals three mechanisms for altering saturation: local boiling, the spatial dependence of flowing enthalpy due to the convective transport of fluid, and counterflow. A scalar function is associated with each of these three mechanims. At each point in space, flows are essentially two dimensional, with gravity establishing a vertical hierarchy, in that volumetric, energy and mass fluxes can never point below a lower member in this triple. With increasing liquid saturation, the characteristics associated with the saturation equation move up from below this grouping of directions, and eventually may even point above volumetric fluxes. Finally, weak shocks and the associated entropy condition are considered. The characteristics of the saturation equation coincide with the velocity of extremely weak shocks, and saturation increases with the passage of a weak shock, provided the magnitude of the characteristic speed increases with saturation.Notation Cl

A new family of hyper-crosslinked (HC) phases was recently developed for use under very aggressive conditions including those encountered in ultra-fast, high-temperature two-dimensional liquid chromatography (2-DLC). This type of stationary phase has improved acid stability compared with the most acid-stable, commercial RPLC phases. Kinetic studies are here reported that allow optimization of reaction time and crosslinking reagent concentrations used to prepare such HC phases. We have determined that the Friedel-Crafts chemistry used to prepare HC phases is nearly complete within about 15 min. Thus, reaction time for each step of the synthesis was greatly reduced from the multihour reactions used previously without sacrificing the stationary phases' acid stability and separation performance. Results from elemental analysis of the finished particles were combined with LC data to provide insights regarding the properties of these HC phases. This new generation of acid stable HC phases, with their attractive chromatographic properties, should be very useful in the separations of bases or biological analytes in acidic media, especially at elevated temperatures. 相似文献
