Synthesis and orientation study of a magnetically aligned liquid‐crystalline chitin/poly(acrylic acid) composite

A high magnetic field of 5 T was used to fabricate a magnetically aligned, optically anisotropic, liquid‐crystalline chitin/poly(acrylic acid) composite. The aligned mesophase was fixed by photoinitiated free‐radical polymerization. From an examination of polarized optical micrographs and an X‐ray diffraction study, a high degree of orientation of 0.70 was observed for the composite with a higher liquid‐crystalline chitin concentration (10.70 wt %); the orientation was reduced with a decreased chitin concentration at a given acrylic acid concentration. The X‐ray data for the developed composite showed a uniplanar orientation for the chitin crystallites, with its molecular long axes perpendicular to the direction of the magnetic field. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Operating Parameters Optimization of Buffer Gas in Optically Pumped Submillimeter Wave Laser

Based on the basic theory of molecular vibration relaxation and semi-classical density matrix theory, operating parameters optimization of buffer gas in the process of miniature pulsed optically pumped submillimeter wave laser was systemically studied and the theoretical calculated result was tested by experiments. The result would do favor to develop and study high-power and wide-range tunable miniature and high-efficient pulsed optically pumped submillimeter wave laser and also had some instruction to its application.     

Development of a Millimeter Wave Compact Equipment for NDT of Materials

We developed a compact equipment working at 94 GHz to replace the commonly used network analyzer for nondestructive testing of materials. The compact equipment was designed to measure the variations in the amplitude and phase of the reflected signal from the material relative to a reference signal. A good accuracy of the amplitude and phase measurement of the equipment was obtained in the confirmative experiments. The distribution of a drop of water in a wood plate is clearly visible in the millimeter wave images obtained by the amplitude and phase measurement.     

A field-sensitivity analysis of the relativistic motion of a single electron submitted to a perpendicular magnetic field

Sensitivity of the velocity of a single electron, in the relativistic case, to a perpendicular magnetic field is evaluated by defining a parameter which becomes useful in a number of cases related to dynamical systems. In particular, the ultrarelativistic case is examined.     

Water wave radiation by a sphere submerged in water with an ice-cover

Using the multipoles method, we formulate the problems of radiation (both heave and sway) of water waves by a submerged sphere in deep as well as in uniform finite depth water with an ice-cover, with the ice-cover being modelled as an elastic plate of very small thickness. In each case this leads to an infinite system of linear equations which are solved numerically by standard techniques. The added-mass and damping coefficients for a heaving and swaying sphere are obtained and depicted graphically against the wave number for various values of the radius of the submerged sphere and flexural rigidity of the ice-cover to show the effect of the presence of ice-cover on these quantities. When the flexural rigidity is taken to be zero, the numerical results for the added-mass and damping coefficient for water with a free surface are recovered.     

Theoretical Description of the Third Order Parametric Wave Mixing in a Gas-Filled Capillary of Femto-Second Laser Pulse

The theoretical signal-pressure curves are calculated from approximate analytical solutions of the coupledequations describing the third order parametric wave mixing in a gas-filled capillary of femto-second laser pulses. Thecomparison with the corresponding experimental curves suggests that the following three factors exert important influ-ences on the degree of fitting between the theoretical and experimental results: the walk-off, the phase modulation, andthe third order harmonic of idler pulse.     

轴线起爆式螺线管型爆磁压缩发生器理论模型

 对轴线起爆式螺线管型爆磁压缩发生器进行了理论模型研究，建立了爆炸管的一维爆轰驱动模型、螺线管内空间磁场强度分布模型、爆炸管外表面磁压力模型和发生器系统的等效电路模型等，对此类发生器的物理过程进行系统描述。在此基础上，编制了相应的零维数值模拟程序CEMG 1.0，利用该程序分别对四种不同模型参数的发生器进行了理论计算和参数优化，并对其中一模型发生器爆炸管外表面的磁压力及其引起的剩余电感进行了计算，给出了剩余电感与初始输入条件及负载电感的关系，从而得到该模型的输出性能极限。对理论模型的正确性进行了实例验算证明。     

Asymptotic Regimes of Magnetic Bianchi Cosmologies

We consider the asymptotic dynamics of the Einstein-Maxwell field equations for the class of non-tilted Bianchi cosmologies with a barotropic perfect fluid and a pure homogeneous source-free magnetic field, with emphasis on models of Bianchi type VII₀, which have not been previously studied. Using the orthonormal frame formalism and Hubble-normalized variables, we show that, as is the case for the previously studied class A magnetic Bianchi models, the magnetic Bianchi VII₀ cosmologies also exhibit an oscillatory approach to the initial singularity. However, in contrast to the other magnetic Bianchi models, we rigorously establish that typical magnetic Bianchi VII₀ cosmologies exhibit the phenomena of asymptotic self-similarity breaking and Weyl curvature dominance in the late-time regime.
