A compact nanometric surface plasmon polariton Fabry-Perot filter based on three metal-insulator-metal (MIM) waveguides is proposed and studied. The characteristics of this SPP band pass filter are analyzed by the finite difference time domain method and the Fabry-Perot resonance model. The results show that the resonance wavelengths of the pass bands can be linearly changed by the resonant cavity length, and the transmission ratios of the pass bands can be varied by altering the gaps between the MIM waveguides. The metal loss and dispersion effects on the SPP filter's spectra are considered as well. This kind of simple filter is very promising for high density SPP waveguide integrations.  相似文献

The authors introduce frequency selective beam splitters for surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) in a metal-insulator-metal (MIM) structure. In the splitters, a part of SPPs keeps propagating straight along the initial direction, while the other part is split into the arm attached at right angle. The splitting ratio can be controlled by varying the width and the electric permittivity of the dielectric layer in the MIM, and by varying the width of the attached arm.  相似文献

The optical property of a structure composed of a touching gold nanocylinder array on a thin gold film is investigated using finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. It is discovered that the transmission behavior can be tuned by tuning the geometry of the structure. As the film thickness increases, the transmission mode associated with the localized surface plasmon resonance blue shifts accompanied with a decrease of magnitude and full width at half maximum, and a second transmission appear due to the interaction of the plasmons on the cylinder with their images induced on the film. The localized waveguide resonance diminishes but the second resonance peak is intensified and broadened noticeably with the separation of the cylinder array and film increase. The cylinder radius size influences the localized surface plasmon resonance mode obviously. These results may be helpful for the design of a novel optical device.  相似文献

It has been experimentally demonstrated that a low-loss guided hybrid mode is supported if a metal strip is embedded in a low index polymer layer surrounded by two high index slabs. In this paper, further numerical analyses on the guided hybrid modes are reported to fully elucidate the characteristics of the hybrid plasmonic waveguide. For a one-dimensional slab structure with a metal film of infinite width, simulation results exhibit that low-loss guided hybrid modes are associated with surface plasmon modes and dual dielectric slab modes. The optical properties of the guided modes are improved by increasing the field intensity which is confined into lossless dielectric layers by decreasing the metal film thickness and increasing the refractive index and thickness of the high-index slabs. The finite element method is used to investigate the lateral mode confinement of the optical guided modes by the corresponding metal strip. By reducing the metal film width, the guided modes are confined in the plane transverse to the direction of propagation and the characteristics are significantly improved. The hybrid plasmonic waveguide can be exploited for long-range propagation-based application such as optical interconnection.  相似文献

A general, system-independent, formulation of the parabolic Schrödinger–Poisson equation is presented for a charged hard wall in the limit of complete screening by the ground state. It is solved numerically using iteration and asymptotic boundary conditions. The solution gives a simple relation between the band bending and sheet charge density at an interface. Approximative analytical expressions for the potential profile and wave function are developed based on properties of the exact solution. Specific tests of the validity of the assumptions leading to the general solution are made. The assumption of complete screening by the ground state is found be a limitation; however, the general solution provides a fair approximate account of the potential profile when the bulk is doped. The general solution is further used in a simple model for the potential profile of an AlN/GaN barrier structure. The result compares well with the solution of the full Schrödinger–Poisson equation.  相似文献

The microstructural morphological changes in laser irradiated targets are investigated. Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm, ∼12 ns nominal, 1.1 MW) is used to irradiate 4 N pure (99.99%) fine polished and annealed silver samples in ambient air and under vacuum ∼10−6 Torr. The laser spot size and power density at tight focus are 12 μm and 3×1011 W/cm2, respectively. SEM micrographs and X-ray diffractograms of the exposed and unexposed targets reveal the surface texture and structural changes, respectively. Amongst the ablation mechanisms involved, exfoliation and hydrodynamic sputtering are found to be dominant. Surface modifications appear in the form of craters and ripples formation. Heat is conducted non-uniformly through narrow channels at the surface. Thermal stresses induced by the laser do not disturb inter planar distance of the target. On the other hand irradiation causes significant variations in grain size and diffracted X-rays intensities.  相似文献

Green emission can be identified as either a structured or a structureless emission. In the downward surface band bending region, the influence of defects on the continuous change in the 0-0 electronic transition was found to be a dominating factor that differentiates the characteristics of green emission. Such a change in the 0-0 electronic transition gives rise to the structureless green emission at higher energy, while the 0-0 electronic transition in the bulk of ZnO plays an important role resulting in structured green emission with lower energy.  相似文献

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) thin films have been widely coated in the self-cleaning glass for facade application. The benefit of these glasses is its ability to actively decompose organic compounds with the help of ultraviolet light. Understanding the surface roughness of TiO2 thin films is important before manufacturing of self-cleaning glasses using TiO2 thin films because surface roughness of TiO2 thin films has highly significant influence on the photocatalytic performance. Traditional approach for measuring surface roughness of TiO2 thin films is atomic force microscopy. The disadvantage of this approach include long lead-time and slow measurement speed. To solve this problem, an optical inspection system for rapidly measuring the surface roughness of TiO2 thin films is developed in this study. It is found that the incident angle of 60° is a good candidate for measuring surface roughness of TiO2 thin films and y=90.391x+0.5123 is a trend equation for predicting the surface roughness of TiO2 thin films. Roughness average (Ra) of TiO2 thin films (y) can be directly determined from the peak power density (x) using the optical inspection system developed. The results were verified by white-light interferometer. The measurement error rate of the optical inspection system developed can be controlled by about 8.8%. The saving in inspection time of the surface roughness of TiO2 thin films is up to 83%.  相似文献
