Abstract It is desirable that a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor is highly sensitive to binding interactions within the sensing region, generate evanescent fields with long penetration depths, and utilize a metal film that is very stable even in extreme environmental conditions. In this study, we present the first example of a wavelength-modulated waveguide SPR sensor with a bimetallic silver–gold film for surface plasmon excitation. The underlying silver yields better evanescent field enhancement of the sensing surface, while the overlying gold ensures that the stability of the metallic film is not compromised. It is shown experimentally that in terms of dλ/dn, the bimetallic film waveguide SPR configuration has a sensitivity of 1232 nm/RIU, greater than two times improvement from the 594 nm/RIU achievable with single gold film waveguide SPR sensor. The higher sensitivity, compact nature, and better evanescent field enhancement of this configuration provides the potential to biosensing applications. 相似文献

The slow light and group velocity dispersion properties of 2D triangular lattice photonic crystal line defect waveguide (PCW) with square and circular air-holes are numerically investigated with the plane-wave expansion method. The simulation results show that the guided mode is impacted slightly by the cross section’s shape of the air-holes of the same filling ratio. Adjusting two rows of the inner-hole adjacent to the waveguide and modifying the waveguide width can bring in low-group velocity and low-dispersion (LVLD) region, in which the group index of the square holes can reach 210 which is far better than the circular-holes. At the same air-hole size and waveguide width, the PCW with the square holes can support higher bit rate of the signal up to 35 Gb/s. These results provide important theoretical basis for realizing of optical buffering and optical logic devices in all-optical network. 相似文献

In this paper, we have proposed a plasmonic splitter which is composed of a subwavelength slit and two different metal-insulator-metal (MIM) waveguides with periodic grooves. The slit is used to excite surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) at certain wavelengths. By setting the SPPs resonance wavelengths of the slit as the Bragg wavelengths of MIM waveguides, the SPPs of different wavelengths are able to be confined and guided in the two different MIM waveguides. The numerical results of two-dimensional finite difference time domain (2D-FDTD) demonstrate that our proposed structure is capable of splitting light into two MIM waveguides. 相似文献

The mode properties of hollow-core fibers with a cladding formed by a periodic arrangement of dielectric tubes in a triangular lattice for THz applications are numerically investigated. The fiber supports a high number of modes. Effectively single-mode operation can be obtain by reducing the core size, but at the expense of high fundamental mode propagation loss. We demonstrate theoretically that a polymer layer, when used as cladding layer for silica-based planar optical waveguides on a silicon substrate, can substantially reduce birefringence. Multilayer planar optical waveguides usually exhibit stresses that are caused by thermal-induced strains that originate from the bonding of the layers, in addition to intrinsic strains. Effect of various intrinsic properties on thermal stress as a function of thickness of the guiding layer is studied. It is shown that it is possible to achieve the thermal stress free and, hence, the stress-induced birefringence free waveguide devices by proper waveguide designs. 相似文献

采用二维时域有限差分(FDTD)法,分析并对比了弯曲分叉部分的形状分别为正弦形和圆弧形的基于金属-绝缘体-金属(MIM)型表面等离子体光波导的Y形分束器的反射率、传输率以及能量分束比随几何结构参数的变化关系。数值计算表明,波导宽度对这两种Y形分束器传输特性的影响较为明显,两个输出分支的偏移量和弯曲分叉部分的长度对这两种Y形分束器传输特性的影响比较微弱。在600~1500nm波长范围内,弯曲分叉部分为圆弧形的Y形分束器的传输特性比弯曲分叉部分为正弦形的好。对于非对称型Y形分束器,当弯曲分叉部分为正弦形时,偏移量对反射率、传输率和能量分束比的调节作用较为明显,能量分束比最大可达到2∶1。当弯曲分叉部分为圆弧形时,偏移量对反射率、传输率和能量分束比的调节作用较为微弱。 相似文献

In this paper we present some result on sol–gel derived silica–hafnia systems. In particular we focus on fabrication, morphological and spectroscopic assessment of Er3+-activated thin films. Two examples of silica–hafnia-derived waveguiding glass ceramics, prepared by top–down and bottom–up techniques are reported, and the main optical properties are discussed. Finally, some properties of activated microspherical resonators, having a silica core, obtained by melting the end of a telecom fiber, coated with an Er3+-doped 70SiO2–30HfO2 film, are presented. 相似文献
