The problem of viscous fluid past an axisymmetric body embedded in a fluid saturated porous medium is studied using the Brinkman's extension. A general formula for the drag on the body is derived in the form of a limit of an expression involving the stream function characterizing the flow. The flow past an axisymmetric approximate sphere is also considered. The stream function in this case is obtained in terms of Bessel functions and Gegenbauer's functions. The drag acting on the body is evaluated by using the formula derived. Its variation is studied with respect to geometric and permeability parameters. A simple filter technique based on the regularization theory is presented. We consider the problem as an optimization one. To allow for a reliable examination of the interaction between velocity fluctuations, acoustics and combustion, a novel numerical procedure is discussed in which a spectral solution of the Navier–Stokes equations is directly associated to a high-order finite difference fully compressible DNS solver (sixth order PADE). Using this combination of high-order solvers with accurate boundary conditions, simulations have been performed where a turbulent premixed V-shape flame develops in grid turbulence. The step-wise martensite to austenite reversible transformation (SMART) in shape memory alloys (SMA) is a martensitic thermoelastic transformation where a step-wise kinetics is induced by a partial cycling procedure within the hysteresis cycle (incomplete cycle on heating (ICH) procedure). The ICH procedure has been proved effective in inducing a reversible microstructural modification of the martensitic phase. Results till now obtained both on the SMART behaviour and on the effects of the ICH procedure are reviewed here: the hypotheses advanced till now are discussed to explain experimental evidences.
Sommario Con l'acronimo di SMART (step-wise martensite to austenite reversible transformation) si indica una trasformazione martensitica termoelastica in cui la cinetica di trasformazione risulta modificata dall'esecuzione di un'appropriata procedura di ciclaggio termico parziale (procedura ICH — Incomplete Cycle on Heating) nell'intervallo di temperatura in cui ha luogo la trasformazione martensitica inversa. Vengono qui presentati i risultati sperimentali relativi sia alla SMART sia agli effetti indotti dalla procedure ICH e responsabili delle modifiche della cinetica di trasformazione. Vengono inoltre discusse le ipotesi sino ad ora avanzate per spiegare i risultati sperimentali.

We present a method for constructing analytic expansions approximating librational invariant curves in the case of the so-called generalized standard map. After some preliminary changes of variables, we apply a direct Birkhoff normal form to a fixed order. The resulting system describes homotopically trivial invariant curves close to a periodic orbit. We investigate the stability of the librational curves applying a numerical method developed by J. Greene.
Sommario Presentiamo un metodo per la costruzione di espansioni analitiche, adatte a descrivere le curve invarianti di librazione nel caso della standard map generalizzata. Dopo aver effettuato alcuni cambiamenti preliminari di variabili, calcoliamo la forma normale di Birkhoff ad un ordine fissato. Il sistema risultante descrive curve invarianti attorno ad orbite periodiche. Studiamo la stabilità di tali curve di librazione tramite un metodo numerico sviluppato da J. Greene.

Kinematic variables bridging discrete and continuum granular mechanics   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
It is known that there is wide, and at present, unbridgeable, gap between discrete and continuum granular mechanics. In this contribution, first, microscopic kinematic variables neglected in classical continuum granular mechanics are investigated based on the kinematics of discs in contact. Then, a kinematic variable called the averaged pure rotation rate (APR) is proposed for an assembly of circular discs of different sizes, which is then used to produce another two kinematic tensors with one equal to the deformation rate tensor and the other unifying the spin tensor and the APR. As an example, the kinematic variables are incorporated into the unified double-slip plasticity model. Finally, these theoretical analyses are verified using a two-dimensional discrete element method. The study shows that these kinematic variables can be used to bridge discrete and continuum granular mechanics.  相似文献

A method for solving problems of fracture of an infinite solid with a circular cylindrical cavity and a coaxial cylindrical crack near the surface under an uniform axial compression is proposed using a non-classical criterial approach associated with a mechanism of a local stability loss near the defect. The theory of integral Fourier transforms and series expansions are used to reduce these problems to a system of paired integral equations and then to a system of linear algebraic equations with respect to the contraction parameter.  相似文献

In this Note we study the effects of the temperature modulation, applied at the horizontal boundaries, on the onset of convection of a horizontal liquid Maxwellian layer. It is assumed that the temperature imposed features a steady component and a time dependent component. To analyse the effect of the temperature modulation, the study is restricted to a linear stability analysis. Thus the Floquet theory and a technique of converting a boundary value problem to an initial value problem are used to solve the system of equations corresponding to the onset of convection. Results obtained may be used to characterize the influence of modulation effects and that of the viscoelastic nature of liquid on the critical Rayleigh number. To cite this article: B. 基于概率断裂力学理论和Mome Caflo模拟方法,本文进行了自紧身管临界裂纹尺寸的可靠性研究。自紧身管内表面的疲劳裂纹考虑为半椭圆形式。裂纹尖端处的应力强度因子由内压和自紧残余应力共同产生。自紧残余应力采用了符合身管材料具有强化和包辛格效应性能推导的公式计算,它产生的应力强度因子通过权函数方法得到。根据断裂准则,可计算出自紧身管的临界裂纹尺寸。实例分析表明,对数正态分布为临界裂纹尺寸的最佳分布,同时给出了在各种置信度和可靠度下自紧身管的临界裂纹尺寸。  相似文献

Insight into the physics of foam densification via numerical simulation   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Foamed materials are increasingly finding application in engineering systems on account of their unique properties. The basic mechanics which gives rise to these properties is well established, they are the result of collapsing the foam microstructure. Despite a basic understanding, the relationship between the details of foam microstructure and foam bulk response is generally unknown. With continued advances in computational power, many researchers have turned to numerical simulation to gain insight into the relationship between foam microstructure and bulk properties. However, numerical simulation of foam microscale deformation is a very challenging computational task and, to date, simulations over the full range of bulk deformations in which these materials operate have not been reported. Here a particle technique is demonstrated to be well-suited for this computational challenge, permitting simulation of the compression of foam microstructures to full densification. Computations on idealized foam microstructures are in agreement with engineering guidelines and various experimental results. Dependencies on degree of microstructure regularity and material properties are demonstrated. A surprising amount of porosity is found in fully-densified foams. The presence of residual porosity can strongly influence dynamic material response and hence needs to be accounted for in bulk (average) constitutive models of these materials.  相似文献
