The crystallization of poly(ethylene terephthalate) under uniaxial tensile strain at different extension rates was investigated with optical polarimetry in a temperature range between the glass-transition temperature and the quiescent crystallization temperature. The evolution of the optical properties of the polymer, including the turbidity, birefringence, and dichroism, were monitored simultaneously with the mechanical parameters. To complete the semicrystalline microstructure characterization of the polymer under strain, an online wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) technique was used in separate experiments, which were performed under the same thermomechanical conditions. For real-time measurements, a high-energy synchrotron radiation source was used. The optical properties provided information about both the crystalline and amorphous phases, whereas the WAXD patterns essentially gave information about the crystalline phase. The two experimental techniques were then used in a complementary way to characterize the semicrystalline microstructure. Significant deviations from the stress-optical rule were found. This was attributed to both transient effects and the appearance of crystallites, which consisted of highly oriented molecular segments that could contribute to the optical anisotropy but not necessarily to the stress. The behavior of the optical dichroism was found to be qualitatively different from that of the birefringence. The latter monotonically increased with the strain, whereas the former first increased with the strain, passed through a maximum, and then decreased to a steady-state value. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Controlled precipitation of the diagnostic imaging agent ethyl 3,5-di(acetylamino)-2,4,6-triiodobenzoate has been used to produce fine particles of various sizes, morphologies, and degrees of crystallinity, which depended on experimental conditions. In addition, two distinct polymorphic forms of the drug have been fully characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies, and evidence for a third polymorph was also observed. Spectroelectrochemical properties of poly-o-phenylenediamine (PPD) and the synthesized composite of PPD and polyaniline—two chemically related polymers containing an amino-substituted benzene ring but having different conduction nature—are studied. Thiourea compounds are excellent agents of bioactive substance. A number of biological activities are associated with substituted thiourea derivatives. A survey of literature reveals that some work has been reported on benzoylthiourea, which has found plenty of applications as a facile and simple ligand in determination of trances of the transition metal and as an available starting material in preparation of a wide variety of metal complexes. In recent years,N-benzoyl-N'-(2-hydroxyethyl)-thiourea has attracted considerable attention as selective reagents for the liquid-liquid extraction and preconcentration of platinum group metals and its antifungle activity.As a part of our works in studying coordination behaviours of N-benzoyl-N'-(2-hydroxyethyl)-thiourea and its bioactivity, in view of these observations and in continuation of our previous works on it, the present work was reported on the crystal structure of N-benzoyl-N'-( 2-hydroxyethyl)-thiourea.The crystals structure in the monoclinic system and space group of P21/c of N-benzoyl-N'-(2-hydroxyethyl)- thiourea (C10H12N2O2S) was determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, a = 17.083 (3) A, b = 4.5490 (10) A, c = 14.279 (3)A, a = 90.00°, a = 102.44(3)°, a = 90.00 °, Ⅴ = 1083.6 (4)A3, Z = 4, Dc = 1.375 Mg/m3, i (Mo Ka)= 0.280 mm-1, F(000) =472. The final R and u R are 0.0399 and 0.0881 for 783 observed reflections [Ⅰ>26(Ⅰ)].Fig. 1 shows the molecular crystal structure of N-benzoyl-N'-(2-hydroxyethyl)thiourea indicating that the carbonyl and thiocarbonyl moieties are pointing in approximate opposite directions. The six atoms in the ring structure hydrogen bonded are almost in one plane. The N(2)-H proton pendant arm extends to the carbonyl oxygen atom, forms hydrogen bond between them.The existence of hydrogen bond in benzoyl-thiourea molecular six-membered ring structure has significant implications on coordination properties, suggest the possibility of intramolecular hydrogen bond controlled coordination behaviors of these potentially bidentate ligands. In the coordination compound reported by Bourne et al.,cis-bis(N-benzoyl-N'-propylthiourea)dichloroplatinum(Ⅱ), the two ligand molecules bind to Pt(Ⅱ)via the sulfur atoms only, the carbonyl oxygen atom being locked into hydrogen bond similar to that in the free ligands.  相似文献

STM, STS, LEED and XPS data for crystalline θ-Al2O3 and non-crystalline Al2O3 ultra-thin films grown on NiAl(0 0 1) at 1025 K and exposed to water vapour at low pressure (1 × 10−7-1 × 10−5 mbar) and room temperature are reported. Water dissociation is observed at low pressure. This reactivity is assigned to the presence of a high density of coordinatively unsaturated cationic sites at the surface of the oxide film. The hydroxyl/hydroxide groups cannot be directly identify by their XPS binding energy, which is interpreted as resulting from the high BE positions of the oxide anions (O1s signal at 532.5-532.8 eV). However the XPS intensities give evidence of an uptake of oxygen accompanied by an increase of the surface coverage by Al3+ cations, and a decrease of the concentration in metallic Al at the alloy interface. A value of ∼2 for the oxygen to aluminium ions surface concentration ratio indicates the formation of an oxy-hydroxide (AlOxOHy with x + y ∼ 2) hydroxylation product. STM and LEED show the amorphisation and roughening of the oxide film. At P(H2O) = 1 × 10−7 mbar, only the surface of the oxide film is modified, with formation of nodules of ∼2 nm lateral size covering homogeneously the surface. STS shows that essentially the valence band is modified with an increase of the density of states at the band edge. With increasing pressure, hydroxylation is amplified, leading to an increased coverage of the alloy by oxy-hydroxide products and to the formation of larger nodules (∼7 nm) of amorphous oxy-hydroxide. Roughening and loss of the nanostructure indicate a propagation of the reaction that modifies the bulk structure of the oxide film. Amorphisation can be reverted to crystallization by annealing under UHV at 1025 K when the surface of the oxide film has been modified, but not when the bulk structure has been modified.  相似文献

以摩尔比为 1∶1的甲基丙烯酸甲酯 (MMA)、甲基丙烯酸 (3 三乙氧基硅烷基 )丙酯 (ESMA)单体、0 .2 %(单体总量的质量分数 )的偶氮二异丁腈AIBN引发剂和四氢呋喃 (THF)溶剂 ,及 2 0 % (总质量分数 )的正硅酸乙酯TEOS合成出PMMA/SiO2 有机 无机杂化的杂化溶胶 .将溶胶在洗净的普通光学玻璃基片表面甩膜 .利用软刻蚀中的微模塑法 ,把有机硅弹性印章复制有精细图纹一面轻放在杂化溶胶膜上进行微模塑 ,外加 1N压力于12 0℃下处理 2h使溶胶凝胶化 .印章剥离后在基片表面就形成了PMMA/SiO2 有机 无机杂化材料的微图纹结构 .从微图纹的光学显微镜照片可以看出微模塑方法制备杂化材料复制的图纹精细度高 ,操作简单易行 ,是一类比较理想的微细图纹结构加工的方法 .  相似文献

The direct growth of ZnSe–CdSe solid solution onto metallic cathodes by electrodeposition from acidic aqueous sulphate solutions is described. The plating process is studied by simple voltammetry, while the structure and composition of the electrolytic deposits are investigated by X-ray diffraction. The experimental d-spacing values of the as-grown mixed lattice are compared to data from reference Zn x Cd1-x Se pellets of standard composition, produced by a sintering method. The findings are supplemented with energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) elemental analysis. Thereupon, the variation of the mole fraction x in Zn x Cd1-x Se, and the solid phase constitution of the electrodeposits are determined and correlated to the electrochemical conditions of growth. The resulting films contain admixtures of CdSe compound and metallic Cd.  相似文献

Contaminant uranium poses unique problems for decontamination of former weapons processing and nuclear power facilities, as well as chemical plants, waste storage sites and former mining facilities. In addition, dealing with the possibility of intentional (i.e., a terrorist act) or accidental release of radioactive material in a populated area requires an accurate understanding of the nature of the association of such material with structural surfaces. These surfaces must also be considered in the context of repeated contamination, and the importance of atmospheric exposure, interaction with other possible contaminants, and corrosion or surface degradation due to such exposure must be taken into account. Complementary spectroscopic techniques, especially surface spectroscopies, are essential in developing models for the interaction of contaminants with surfaces and interfaces. In this review (which also presents new data on uranium association with corroding steel surfaces), we collect models of this association as determined by spectroscopic techniques, assess the important considerations in the development of more accurate models, and address some of the questions which remain.  相似文献

Nuclear resonant inelastic X-ray scattering of synchrotron radiation is being applied to ever widening areas ranging from geophysics to biophysics and materials science. Since its first demonstration in 1995 using the 57Fe resonance, the technique has now been applied to materials containing 83Kr, 151Eu, 119Sn, and 161Dy isotopes. The energy resolution has been reduced to under a millielectronvolt. This, in turn, has enabled new types of measurements like Debye velocity of sound, as well as the study of origins of non-Debye behavior in presence of other low-energy excitations. The effect of atomic disorder on phonon density of states has been studied in detail. The flux increase due to the improved X-ray sources, crystal monochromators, and time-resolved detectors has been exploited for reducing sample sizes to nano-gram levels, or using samples with dilute resonant nuclei like myoglobin, or even monolayers. Incorporation of micro-focusing optics to the existing experimental setup enables experiments under high pressure using diamond-anvil cells. In this article, we will review these developments.
