The sextic approach to plane waves in infinite (visco)elastic plates of arbitrary anisotropy and transverse inhomogeneity is outlined. A particular thrust is set on continuous inhomogeneity when the propagator is defined by the Peano expansion. Despite underlying explicit intricacy, the basic framework of the pursued formalism is little affected by a through-plate variation of material. To make it evident, the principal algebraic symmetry of the propagator for unattenuated waves and the ensuing arrangement of the impedance as a Hermitian matrix with specific traits are inferred directly from energy considerations. Staying the same as for homogeneous plates, those features yield useful developments in the broader context of inhomogeneity. The formalism may be expressed in either pair picked among velocity, frequency and wavenumber, but different choices of a dispersion variable are shown to entail analytical dissimilarities. In addition, the impact of the profile symmetry and of the horizontal plane of crystallographic symmetry is examined. The surface-impedance method and some other aspects of the numerical treatment are discussed.  相似文献

We apply iterative subspace correction methods to elliptic PDE problems discretized by generalized sparse grid systems. The involved subspace solvers are based on the combination of all anisotropic full grid spaces that are contained in the sparse grid space. Their relative scaling is at our disposal and has significant influence on the performance of the iterative solver. In this paper, we follow three approaches to obtain close‐to‐optimal or even optimal scaling parameters of the subspace solvers and thus of the overall subspace correction method. We employ a Linear Program that we derive from the theory of additive subspace splittings, an algebraic transformation that produces partially negative scaling parameters that result in improved asymptotic convergence properties, and finally, we use the OptiCom method as a variable nonlinear preconditioner. We find that the sextic nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation admits breather‐to‐soliton transitions. With the Darboux transformation, analytic breather solutions with imaginary eigenvalues up to the second order are explicitly presented. The condition for breather‐to‐soliton transitions is explicitly presented and several examples of transitions are shown. Interestingly, we show that the sextic NLS equation admits not only the breather‐to‐bright‐soliton transitions but also the breather‐to‐dark‐soliton transitions. We also show the interactions between two solitons on the constant backgrounds, as well as between breather and soliton.  相似文献

Strongly-cyclic branched coverings of knots are studied by using their (g, 1)-decompositions. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence and uniqueness of such coverings are obtained. It is also shown that their fundamental groups admit geometric g-words cyclic presentations. In this paper we introduce a new preconditioner for linear systems of saddle point type arising from the numerical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations. Our approach is based on a dimensional splitting of the problem along the components of the velocity field, resulting in a convergent fixed-point iteration. The basic iteration is accelerated by a Krylov subspace method like restarted GMRES. The corresponding preconditioner requires at each iteration the solution of a set of discrete scalar elliptic equations, one for each component of the velocity field. Numerical experiments illustrating the convergence behavior for different finite element discretizations of Stokes and Oseen problems are included.  相似文献

We discuss preconditioning and overlapping of waveform relaxation methods for sparse linear differential systems. It is demonstrated that these techniques significantly improve the speed of convergence of the waveform relaxation iterations resulting from application of various modes of block Gauss-Jacobi and block Gauss-Seidel methods to differential systems. Numerical results are presented for linear systems resulting from semi-discretization of the heat equation in one and two space variables. It turns out that overlapping is very effective for the system corresponding to the one-dimensional heat equation and preconditioning is very effective for the system corresponding to the two-dimensional case.The work of the second author was supported by the National Science Foundation under grant NSF DMS 92-08048.  相似文献
