This paper demonstrates that capillary electrophoresis (CE) can be employed for characterizing the sizes of nanometer-scale gold particles. We characterized the gold nanoparticles by effecting CE separation using a buffer of SDS (70 mM) and 3-cyclohexylamino-1-propanesulfonic acid (CAPS; 10 mM) at pH 11.0 and an applied voltage of 18 kV and obtained a linear relationship (R2 > 0.99) between electrophoretic mobilities and size for nanoparticles whose diameters fall in the regime from 5.0 ± 0.5 to 41.2 ± 3.3 nm; the relative standard deviations of these electrophoretic mobilities are <0.8%. We evaluated the feasibility of employing these separation conditions for the size characterization by of gold nanoparticle samples that were synthesized by a rapid microwave heating method. We confirmed that this CE method is a valid one for size characterization by comparing the results obtained by CE with those provided by scanning electron microscopy (SEM); a good correlation exists between these two techniques. District heating plants are becoming more common in European cities. These systems make it possible to furnish users with warm water while locating the production plants in the outskirts having the double benefit of lowering the impact of pollution on the center of the city and achieving better conversion performances. In order to amortize the costs throughout the year, the system often includes a combined heat and power (CHP) plant, to exploit the energy during the summer as well, when the demand for warm water decreases. A linear programming model for the optimal resource management of such a plant is presented and some results for a real case are reported. Heating of a conductive polydisperse powder by electrostatic discharge (ESD) is modelled numerically. Powder packing is described using a discrete element model; powder resistance is defined by geometry of particle contacts and properties of plasma produced by electrical breakdown between neighbour particles. A set of parametric calculations in combination with experimental data is used to determine necessary adjustable model parameters. The model predicts the temperature for each powder particle resulting from its heating by the ESD current. Location and packing of individual particles within the powder affects greatly their achieved temperatures and thus the likelihood of ignition. Consistently with experiments, a trend showing that smaller particles are generally heated to higher temperatures at a given ESD energy is detected for coarser powders; this trend becomes less clear for finer powders with particle sizes less than the breakdown distance given by the Paschen curve in air. Comparison of the experimental data and calculations suggests that the transition from single particle to cloud combustion occurs when the distance between the particles ignited by ESD becomes close to the flame size for the individual burning particle. This distance, inversely proportional to the number of ignited particles, is primarily determined by the ESD energy. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThe stages of crystallization of magnetron sputter-deposited Ni63Zr37 film with mostly amorphous structure have been investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and in-situ annealing at 300°C by use of heating stage on a high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM). These results have been further confirmed by grazing incidence X-ray diffraction analyses of thin film specimens annealed ex-situ at 300°C for various durations. The temperature for crystallization found by DSC has been found to increase from 371°C to 434°C with an increase in heating rate from 3°C/min to 10°C/min, and the apparent activation energy for amorphous to crystalline transformation has been found as ~260.2?kJ/mol from the Kissinger plot. Studies on HRTEM using in-situ heating stage have shown the crystallization to occur on annealing at 300°C for ~10?min. Crystallization at a temperature lower than that found by DSC is attributed to structural relaxation with reduction of free volume due to thermal activation. It has been observed that Ni3Zr forms first due to its large negative enthalpy of formation, and is followed by the formation of Ni-rich solid solution (Niss) grains. HRTEM studies have shown grain rotation with the formation of partial dislocations at Ni3Zr-Niss interfaces as well as twinning followed by detwinning with dislocation formation in the Niss matrix possibly to reduce the interfacial energy. 相似文献

Two types of directional couplers for transverse electric (TE) modes are described: short and multihole couplers, respectively. They selectively pick one mode out of a mode mixture in an overmoded circular waveguide system. Unwanted modes are either statistically kept at low level or are suppressed by destructive interference in the coupling waveguide. Mode selectivity and directivity in multihole couplers oscillate up and down with an increasing number of holes, finally reaching a minimum of approximately 20 dB, unless there are competing modes with rational fractions of the beat wavelength. A multihole coupler for the TE02 mode (28 GHz, 63.4 mm waveguide diameter, 41 holes) and a length of 1.6 m shows a calculated directivity of 68 dB and suppresses the unwanted modes TE01 with 34 dB (24 dB), TE22 with 37 dB (45 dB), and further modes TEm (<5, m<6) with 17 dB to 34 dB in forward direction (figures in parentheses are for unwanted modes propagating in backward direction).A short directional coupler for the TE01 mode (28 GHz, 63.4 mm waveguide diameter) with 16 holes and a length of 230 mm shows a directivity of 55 to 100 dB between 27.9 and 28.1 GHz, suppressing the TE02 mode with 35 to 80 dB, the TE03 mode with 30 to 65 dB, and the TE22 mode with 30 to 70 dB. 相似文献
