Sunlight curable hybrid organic–inorganic methacrylic‐based coatings: analysis of the cure mechanism and functional properties

An experimental ultraviolet (UV) polymerizable hybrid organic–inorganic protective coating, mainly intended for the surface protection of porous calcareous stone substrates, has been recently proposed and patented. The hybrid product evidenced an extraordinary hydrophobicity character, able to guarantee a high protection of the stone against water actions, as well as a high traspirability. Furthermore, it is able to equal the performance of commercial available coatings, with the important adjunctive advantage to be free solvent. The application of this product involves the use of a “dual curing” treatment, necessary to harden the coating applied on the substrate, representing this latter a technological limit. The dual curing treatment consists of 6 hr of exposure to a UV‐lamp plus 1 hr at 140°C in oven. In order to avoid this procedure, not easy to realize in situ, two different modifications of the composition of the hybrid product are proposed in this paper. The first one allows the photopolymerization of the hybrid coating only by sunlight exposure. The second one, even though requiring a UV exposure to photo‐polymerize the coating, does not need the subsequent thermal treatment at 140°C. Several experimental characterizations were performed on the newly developed hybrid products, in order to select an optimal composition for the formulations. The selected innovative products were, finally, applied on a calcareous stone substrate, typical of Apulia Region (Pietra Leccese, PL). The motion of fragments following disintegration of a meteoroid during its flight through the Earth's atmosphere is investiated.
Shock wave configurations, aerodynamical forces and moments acting on each fragment and the trajectories of the pieces are
determined for hypothetical initial configurations. The results of numerical simulations show that a meteoroid's breakup may
lead to both increase and decrease of the total cross section, drag forces and energy release in the atmosphere. As a consequence

The bidirectional long-wave model introduced by Wu (1994)[1] and Yih & Wu (1995)[2] is applied to evaluate interactions between multiple solitary waves progressing in both directions in a uniform channel of
rectangular cross-section and undergoing collisions of two classes, one being head-on and the other overtaking collisions
between these solitons. For a binary head-on collision, the two interacting solitary waves are shown to merge during a phase-locking
period from which they reemerge separated, each asymptotically recovering its own initial identity while both being retarded
in phase from their original pathlines. For a binary overtaking collision between a soliton of height α1 overtaking a weaker one of height α1, the two solition peaks are shown to either pass through each other or remain separated throughout the encounter according
as α1/α2 or <3, respectively. With no phase locking during the overtaking, the two solitary waves re-emerge afterwards with their
initial forms recovered and with the stronger wave being advanced whereas the weaker one retarded in phase from their original
pathlines. By extension, the theory is generalized to apply to uniform channels of arbitrary cross-sectional shape.

Quasi-longitudinal waves are one type of structural waves, which are important at high frequencies. This paper studies the
estimate theory and measurement technique of quasi-longitudinal waves, analyzes the bias error due to the effect of bending
waves. In a two-dimensional quasi-longitudinal wave field, the intensity vector is the sum of the effective intensity vector
and the intensity variation vector. Its axial component is proportional to two imaginary parts of cross spectral densities
and in the measurement, it is measured by a pair of two-transducer arrays. In a onedimensional quasi-longitudinal wave field,
the intensity variation is zero, the intensity is proportional to only one imaginary part of a cross spectral density and
it can be measured using a two-transducer array. If bending and quasi-longitudinal waves coexist and the contribution from
bending waves cannot be eliminated or reduced to a certain extent, the measured quasi-longitudinal wave intensity will contain
a large error. The results measured on the three-beam structure show that quasi-longitudinal wave intensity can be accurately
measured using the intensity technique when bending waves are negligible in comparison with quasi-longitudinal waves.

In the paper the wave attenuation in a two layer fluid system is studied. The fluid in the top layer is ideal and that in
the lower layer is the Voigt model of the viscoelastic medium. A dispersion relation is derived and the rate of the wave decay
is computed. The approximate explicit expressions of the decay rate for different water depth are given, where the viscoelasticity
is either very large or very small. Compared with the numerical results, our results are very accurate, which can be used
by an engineer.

It has been shown that pressure waves can have a large effect on the burning rate of flames. In this paper, the evolution
of convection-driven fast flame, which is acoustically linked to a shock wave via an induction zone, is examined in detail.
It is found that there is positive feedback mechanism and the asymptotic model breaks down as blow up occurs. Comparison
is made between the case of a piston driving a shock wave into a combustible atmosphere with these studies of a shock wave
passing through an existing premixed flame.

Higher harmonic operation of gyrotrons is necessary to obtain high frequencies. Some gyrotrons included in the Gyrotron FU series developed at Fukui University have achieved operation at the third and even fourth harmonics of the electron cyclotron frequency.
