Gribov ambiguity in gauge theories

Gribov ambiguity in gauge field theories is discussed and it is shown that such an ambiguity exists even for Abelian theories in covariant gauge at finite temperature. Both geometric and algebraic proofs are presented. In view of the importance of non-perturbative methods, some special gauges are given in which such ambiguities do not exist or are not relevant. The significance of these in the study of confinement in QCD is pointed out.     

Recent advances in lattice gauge theories

Recent progress in the field of lattice gauge theories is briefly reviewed for a nonspecialist audience. While the emphasis is on the latest and more definitive results that have emerged prior to this symposium, an effort has been made to provide them with minimal technicalities.     

Trouble finding the optimal AdS/QCD

In the bottom-up approach to AdS/QCD based on a five-dimensional gravity dilaton action the exponential of the dilaton field is usually identified as the strong or 't Hooft coupling. There is currently no model known which fits the measurements of the running coupling and lattice results for pressure at the same time. With a one parametric toy model we demonstrate the effect of fitting the pressure on the coupling and vice versa.     

Vacuum condensates of QCD

We study the properties of QCD vacuum state in this paper. The values of various local quark vacuum condensates, quark-gluon mixed vacuum condensates, and the structure of non-local quark vacuum condensate are predicted by the solution of Dyson-Schwinger Equations in "rainbow" approximation with three sets of different parameters for effective gluon propagator. The light quark virtuality is also obtained in a consistent way. Our all theoretical results here are in good agreement with the empirical values used widely in literature and many other theoretical calculations.     

High-precision nonperturbative QCD

Recent advances in lattice QCD have resulted in the first simulations with realistic quark vacuum polarization. Consequently a wide variety of high-precision (few percent) nonperturbative calculations are possible now. This paper reviews the recent developments that make this possible, and presents early evidence that the era of high-precision nonperturbative QCD is at hand. It also discusses the future impact of lattice QCD on experiments, and particularly for heavy-quark physics.

Hadron interactions in lattice QCD

Progress on the potential method, recently proposed to investigate hadron interactions in lattice QCD, is reviewed. The strategy to extract the potential in lattice QCD is explained in detail. The method is applied to extract NN potentials, hyperon potentials and the meson–baryon potentials. A theoretical investigation is made to understand the origin of the repulsive core using the operator product expansion. Some recent extensions of the method are also discussed.     

An interplay between static potential and Reggeon trajectory for QCD string

I consider two cases where QCD string is described by an effective theory of long strings: the static potential and meson scattering amplitudes in the Regge regime. I show how they can be solved in the mean-field approximation, justified by the large number of space–time dimensions, and argue that it turns out to be exact. I compare contributions from QCD string and perturbative QCD and discuss experimental consequences for the scattering amplitudes.
