One-dimensional metal lines of silver nanoparticles with a nano-sized width were generated onto silicon surface by using a nano-level lithography technique, field induced oxidation (FIO) by AFM, on self-assembled monolayer-modified Si wafers. This FIO technique provided SiO2 lines a width of less than 100 nm. Short-time immersion of partially anodized silicon surface which is covered by a cationic silanol surfactant ((CH3O)3SiCH2CH2CH2N(CH3)3+Cl)-monolayer into quaternary ammonium (HSCH2CH2N(CH3)3+Br)-covered silver nanoparticles readily and reproducibly gave nano-metal lines of silver onto silicon wafers. Hydrophilicity of the whole wafer surface was indispensable for homogeneously wetting the anodized SiO2 area with a nanodimensional width.  相似文献

The influence of the surface roughness of polypropylene on the contact angle hysteresis is investigated by means of ethylene glycol drops in order to estimate the true Young’s equilibrium contact angle. A new relationship between the contact angle hysteresis and Wenzel’s contact angle is derived. In addition, the determination of Wenzel’s roughness factor by means of scanning force microscopy opens an alternative way to obtaining Young’s equilibrium contact angle without any surface manipulation. Layers of dihydroxy silicon phthalocyanine tetrasulfonic acid and oligo-μ-oxo silicon phthalocyanine tetrasulfonic acid were prepared by solution-casting methods. The purity of the material was checked by X-ray photoemission spectroscopy. The orientation of the molecules in respect to the substrate plane was investigated by angle-dependent near-edge X-ray absorption fine-structure spectroscopy. The morphology was characterized by atomic force microscopy. Most samples exhibited a significant orientation that was accompanied by crystalline structures; others had no orientation at all with a dominant amorphous morphology. This behavior indicates that several preparation parameters affect the crystallinity and the orientation of the phthalocyanines. Cold collisions between electrostatically trapped linear polar molecules are theoretically investigated. It is consequently shown that the inelestic collision cross-section is determined by S-wave scattering alone, while the contribution of D-wave scattering to the elastic collision cross-section becomes significant when the electric field strength is high. It is also shown that as the temperature decreases, it becomes difficult to obtain the evaporative cooling effect without collision loss. Using the fluid model for the nonlinear response of ions, we have studied the nonlinear scattering of an electromagnetic ion cyclotron wave off the ion acoustic wave in a plasma. The low frequency nonlinearity arises through the parallel ponderomotive force on ions and the high frequency nonlinearity arises through the nonlinear current density of ions. For a typical nonisothermal plasma (T e/T i∼10) the threshold for this instability in a uniform plasma is ∼1mW/cm2. At power densities ≳102 W/cm2, the growth rate for backscatter turns out to be ∼104s−1.  相似文献

The slow advance of a crack in soda-silicate glasses was studied at nanometer scale by in-situ and real-time atomic force microscopy (AFM) in a well-controlled atmosphere. An enhanced diffusion of sodium ions in the stress-gradient field at the sub-micrometric vicinity of the crack tip was revealed through several effects: growth of nodules in AFM height images, changes in the AFM tip-sample energy dissipation. The nodules patterns revealed a dewetting phenomenon evidenced by ‘breath figures’. Complementary chemical micro-analyses were done. These experimental results were explained by a two-step process: (i) a fast migration (typical time: few milliseconds) of sodium ions towards the fracture surfaces as proposed by Langford et al. [J. Mat. Res. 6 (1991) 1358], (ii) a slow backwards diffusion of the cations as evidenced in these AFM experiments (typical time: few minutes). Measurements of the diffusion coefficient of that relaxing process were done at room temperature. Our results strengthen the theoretical concept of a near-surface structural relaxation due to the stress-gradient at the vicinity of the crack tip. The inhomogeneous migration of sodium ions might be a direct experimental evidence of the presence of sodium-rich channels in the silicate structure [A. Meyer et al., Phys. Rev. Many lead silicate historical glasses suffer degradation phenomena often observed as color changes and iridescence caused by lead ions leaching from the outer layers of the glass. In order to repair and to prevent these phenomena, glasses with large amounts of lead (6.7 and 14.3 at.% of lead) have been coated with silica films at neutral pH by dipping them in a precursor solution of TEOS (tetraethyl orthosilicate), ethyl alcohol and deionized water without any other acid or basic catalyst. Experiments with long dipping times (24 h) and temperatures around 20 °C have been performed to evaluate the role of lead ions of the glass as a catalyst. Silica films of very good quality and optical transparency have been also obtained on lead-free, soda-lime glasses by adding catalytic amounts of Pb(NO3)2 instead of HCl to the precursor solution. The films have been characterized by optical microscopy, AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy), XPS (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy) and SIMS (Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry).  相似文献

The electronic transport properties of fractal quantum waveguide networks in the presence of a magnetic field are studied. A Generalized Eigen-function Method (GEM) is used to calculate the transmission and reflection coefficients of the studied systems unto the fourth generation Sierpinski fractal network with node number N=123N=123. The relationship among the transmission coefficient T, magnetic flux Φ and wave vector k is investigated in detail. The numerical results are shown by the three-dimensional plots and contour maps. Some resonant-transmission features and the symmetry of the transmission coefficient T to flux Φ are observed and discussed, and compared with the results of the tight-binding model.  相似文献

A model nanocomposite sample, made of rigid monodisperse spherical inclusions in a deformable matrix, was uniaxially stretched. The displacement field of the particles at the sample surface is analyzed using atomic force microscopy. It is shown that its 2D structure factor presents most of the characteristic features previously described from scattering experiments on similar materials. At the scale of the particles, distortions from affinity are observed. They can be explained by the radial interactions between neighboring inclusions, related to the mechanical confinement of the matrix between particles. At larger scales, remarkable alignments of particles are observed along a direction which is roughly perpendicular to the stretching direction. We show that this effect is found in other soft/hard nanocomposites. It may contribute to the mechanical properties of this class of heterogeneous materials.  相似文献

We investigate the Coulomb blockade resonances and the phase of the transmission amplitude of a deformed ballistic quantum dot weakly coupled to leads. We show that preferred single-particle levels exist which stay close to the Fermi energy for a wide range of values of the gate voltage. These states give rise to sequences of Coulomb blockade resonances with correlated peak heights and transmission phases. The correlation of the peak heights becomes stronger with increasing temperature. The phase of the transmission amplitude shows lapses by between the resonances. Implications for recent experiments on ballistic quantum dots are discussed. Received 17 July 1998  相似文献
