An exponential correlated basis set is tested within the framework
of multi-channel Schwinger variational principle in the momentum space.
It is found that inclusion of only the
positron-electron correlation in the basis set is
enough to obtain accurate results for all significant partial
waves for ground state positronium
formation in positron-hydrogen collisions at low and intermediate energies (6.856–75 eV).
Results are in conformity with other accurate
variational and non-variational calculations as well as observed data available in the

The effectiveness of stabilisers, organic (hindered amine light stabilisers), inorganic (nanoparticulate zinc oxide), and combinations thereof, in preventing the signatures of degradation in polypropylene subjected to accelerated weathering is studied. Polyacrylic acid (PAA) doped with carbon black (CB), chromium oxide (Cr2O3) and cupferron with different wt% (0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75%, and 1%) was studied using positron annihilation lifetime (PAL) technique and Doppler broadening of annihilation radiation (DBAR). Ortho-positronium lifetime components (τ3 and I3) were used to estimate the nanoscale free-volume hole sizes (Vf) and its fractions (f). It was found that the hole size Vf and its fractions f as well as S-parameters decreased at high value of doping concentration due to dopants-polymer formation. These results are supported by a significant narrowing in the nanoscale free-volume hole size distributions.

The microstructure of nanocrystalline Cu prepared by compacting nanoparticles (50-60 nm in diameter) under high pressures has been studied by means of positron lifetime spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. These nanoparticles were produced by two different methods. We found that there are order regions interior to the grains and disorder regions at the grain boundaries with a wide distribution of interatomic distances. The mean grain sizes of the nanocrystalline Cu samples decrease after being annealed at 900 °C and increase during aging at 180 °C, which are observed by X-ray diffraction, revealing that the atoms exchange between the two regions. The positron lifetime results clearly indicate that the vacancy clusters formed in the annealing process are unstable and decomposed at the aging time below 6 hours. In addition, the partially oxidized surfaces of the nanoparticles hinder grain growth when the samples age at 180 °C, and the vacancy clusters inside the disorder regions, which are related to Cu2O, need longer aging time to decompose. The disorder regions remain after the heat treatment in this work, in spite of the grain growth, which will be good for the samples keeping the properties of nanocrystalline material. 相似文献

The results of studies of the physico-chemical changes of a polyester, poly(ethylene isophthalate), subjected to gamma irradiation up to 1 MGy, are reported. Viscometric measurements were carried out to monitor variations of the molecular weight. Changes in the amorphous fraction of the polymer were observed by means of differential scanning calorimetry. Positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy was used to show possible modifications of the free volume as a consequence of irradiation. We report an exact analytical solution of so-called positron diffusion trapping model. This model have been widely used for the treatment of the experimental data for defect profiling of the adjoin surface layer using the variable energy positron (VEP) beam technique. However, up to now this model could be treated only numerically with so-called VEPFIT program. The explicit form of the solutions is obtained for the realistic cases when defect profile is described by a discreet step-like function and continuous exponential-like function. Our solutions allow to derive the analytical expressions for typical positron annihilation characteristics including the positron lifetime spectrum. Latter quantity could be measured using the pulsed, slow positron beam. Our analytical results are in good coincidence with both the VEPFIT numerics and experimental data. The presented solutions are easily generalizable for defect profiles of other shapes and can be well used for much more precise treatment of above experimental data. 相似文献

Positron age–momentum correlation (AMOC) spectroscopy, which can sensitively probe momentum distributions of positrons and positronium (Ps), was conducted for studying the pick-off process of the triplet bound state ortho-Ps (o-Ps) with electrons at the walls of the free volumes in polymers. Influences of different chemical elements forming free volume were investigated. It was found that the momentum distribution of o-Ps pick-off annihilation sensitively depends on the electronic state in the free volumes. The feasibility of the chemical analysis relevant to the free volume in polymers is discussed. 相似文献
