We demonstrate that high-energy, high-resolution reflection electron energy loss spectroscopy can provide unique insights into interface formation, especially for the case where an extended interface is formed. By changing the geometry and/or electron energy the electronic structure can be probed over a range of thicknesses (from 10s of Å to more than 1000 Å). At the same time one resolves the elastically scattered electrons into different components, corresponding to scattering of atoms with different mass (so-called ‘electron Rutherford backscattering’). Thus these high-energy REELS/elastic scattering experiments obtain information on both the electronic structure and the atomic composition of the overlayer formed. 相似文献

We try to derive some explicit equations for predicting the laws which govern the evolution of different parameters of a propagating optical pulse in a nonlinear medium under the combined influence of two-photon absorption and gain dispersion. Using the generalized Euler-Lagrange equation, the dynamics of different pulse parameters are generated. The Rayleigh’s dissipation function is incorporated in order to take recourse to the dissipative part, with an analogy with the non-conservative frictional problem in classical mechanics. It appears from the study that the influence of the dissipative part can well be explained using the proposed model. The analytically predicted results are compared with the numerical data obtained from direct simulation of the Ginzburg-Landau equation and the results are found to be quite satisfactory, supporting the prediction. 相似文献

Thin narrow Au stripes suitable for propagating long-range surface plasmon-polaritons were deposited by evaporation and lift-off on a thermal oxide layer on a silicon substrate, and modified by direct adsorption of bovine serum albumin (BSA). Atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements reveal that BSA adsorbs onto the Au stripes from phosphate buffer solutions forming an adlayer having an average thickness of about 2 nm (surface mass density of about 2 ng/mm2). Comparisons with a simple adsorption model suggest the side-on adsorption of a single monolayer of BSA followed by denaturation and flattening. The BSA-coated stripes have an increased surface roughness compared to a virgin stripe. 相似文献

We have theoretically investigated the transmission performance of the optical mm-wave generation by using an external modulator based on single sideband (SSB) intensity modulation. Though the SSB millimeter (mm)-wave can immune the fading effect, the baseband signals with a high bit rate are degraded greatly after transmission along fiber. The main reason is that the fiber dispersion causes the time shift of the code edges; therefore the maximum transmission distance of the baseband signals is limited. The experimental and simulation results agree well with our theoretical analysis. We also propose a novel scheme to extend the transmission distance. In this novel scheme, the data signals are modulated only onto one of the two optical carriers; hence the shift of the code edges in the down-converted signals after transmission is eliminated. 相似文献

In this paper, the wave transmission from finite photonic crystals with multiple alternations is investigated using boundary element method (BEM). Since that, in these structures the alternation is not in all directions of space; the investigations of the frequency band gap with desired accuracy are not practical by analytical methods. Also, the frequency dispersion of dielectric rods is an effective parameter in photonic crystals, which this effect in our calculations has been considered. Due to the high capabilities of the BEM, the transmitted wave spectrum in the photonic crystal is calculated by changing the geometrical and optical parameters of the photonic crystal and applying more alternation in its structure and the position and width of the frequency band gap is investigated. Then, it is assumed that the photonic crystal with an arbitrary angle is rotated around the axis which is perpendicular on the crystal cross section and then, it is irradiated with a plan wave. The band gap of the photonic crystals with the desired structure, desired rotation angle and multiple alternations have been solved. Very low information volume, high speed and accuracy during the calculation and useable for any desired structures are the characteristics of this method. 相似文献

The Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation describes nonlinear dispersive waves which travel mainly in one direction, generalizing the Korteweg-de Vries equation for purely uni-directional waves. In this Letter we derive an improved KP-equation that has exact dispersion in the main propagation direction and that is accurate in second order of the wave height. Moreover, different from the KP-equation, this new equation is also valid for waves on deep water. These properties are inherited from the AB-equation (E. van Groesen, Andonowati, 2007 [1]) which is the unidirectional improvement of the KdV equation. The derivation of the equation uses the variational formulation of surface water waves, and inherits the basic Hamiltonian structure. 相似文献
