Summary An efficient one-dimensional model is developed for the statics of piezoelectric sandwich beams. Third-order zigzag approximation is used for axial displacement, and the potential is approximated as piecewise linear. The displacement field is expressed in terms of three primary displacement variables and the electric potential variables by satisfying the conditions of zero transverse shear stress at the top and bottom and its continuity at layer interfaces. The deflection field accounts for the piezoelectric transverse normal strain. The governing equations are derived using a variational principle. The present results agree very well with the exact solution for thin and thick highly inhomogeneous simply supported hybrid sandwich beams. The developed theory can accurately model open and closed circuit boundary conditions. The first author is grateful to DST, Government of India, for financial support for this work.  相似文献

Summary This paper investigates the problem of an anti-plane interfacial crack between two dissimilar piezoelectric material layers. A single crack is first considered. The effect of interaction of two collinear cracks in the medium on the field intensity factors is investigated. The solutions of several particular cases, including an infinite piezoelectric bi-material and a piezoelectric material bonded to an elastic medium, are given. The bi-material constants governing the behavior of the crack tip fields are identified. By considering the crack as a notch of finite thickness, it is shown that the thickness of the notch has a pronounced influence on the crack tip field. The results for the assumption of a permeable crack represent the limit case where the notch thickness is reduced to zero.BLW would like to thank the National Science Foundation of China (#10102004) and the City University of Hong Kong (DAG #7100219) for the support of this work. Summary  The dynamic response of a cracked piezoelectric half-space under anti-plane mechanical and in-plane electric impacting loads is investigated in the present paper. In the study, the crack is assumed parallel to the free surface of the half-space. Laplace and Fourier transforms are used to reduce the mixed boundary value problems to Cauchy-type singular integral equations in the Laplace transform domain, which are solved numerically. Then, a numerical Laplace inversion is performed and the dynamic stress and electric displacement factors are obtained as functions of time and geometry parameters. The dynamic energy release rate is derived for piezoelectric materials in terms of the electroelastic intensities and is displayed graphically. Summary  A correspondence principle is established between elastic and piezoelectric problems for transversely isotropic materials, in such a way that the knowledge of an elastic solution yields fully coupled electro–elastic fields for the corresponding piezoelectric problem, provided the elastic solution is written in a certain form. The implementation of this principle is illustrated by constructing, in a routine way, several piezoelectric solutions involving crack and punch problems (one of them has not been solved previously). Summary A new numerical code, based upon a mixed FEM-Runge-Kutta method, is used for the analysis and design of plane 2-D smart structures. The code is applied to the study of arbitrarily shaped PEM plates, based on a weak formulation of their governing equations, [17]. The optimal parameters needed to synthesize appropriate electric networks are computed, and the overall performances of such plates are investigated. Two examples are studied: firstly, a simple case is used to test the main features of the code; secondly, a more complex PEM plate is designed and analyzed by means of the proposed numerical approach. The ideas developed in this paper were discussed with Prof. Vincenzo Ciampi, Stefano Vidoli, PhD, Corrado Maurini, MS, and Maurizio Porfiri, MS. Their friendly help and constructive criticism were really useful.  相似文献

Summary  In this paper, the eigen-equations governing antiplane stress singularities in a bonded piezoelectric wedge are derived analytically. Boundary conditions are set as various combinations of traction-free, clamped, electrically open and electrically closed ones. Application of the Mellin transform to the stress/electric displacement function or displacement/electric potential function and particular boundary and continuity conditions yields identical eigen-equations. All of the analytical results are tabulated. It is found that the singularity orders of a bonded bimaterial piezoelectric wedge may be complex, as opposed to those of the antiplane elastic bonded wedge, which are always real. For a single piezoelectric wedge, the eigen-equations are independent of material constants, and the eigenvalues are all real, except in the case of the combination C–D. In this special case, C–D, the real part of the complex eigenvalues is not dependent on material constants, while the imaginary part is. Summary  The paper presents an efficient two-dimensional approach to piezoelectric plates in the framework of linear theory of piezoelectricity. The approximation of the through-the-thickness variations accounts for the shear effects and a refinement of the electric potential. Using a variational formalism, electromechanically coupled plate equations are obtained for the generalized stress resultants as well as for the generalized electric inductions. The latter are deduced from the conservative electric charge equation, which plays a crucial role in the present model. Emphasis is placed on the boundary conditions at the plate faces. The model is used to examine some problems for cylindrical bending of a single simply supported plate. Number of situations are examined for a piezoelectric plate subject to (i) an applied electric potential, (ii) a surface density of force, and (iii) a surface density of electric charge. The through-thickness distributions of electromechanical quantities (displacements, stresses, electric potential and displacement) are obtained, and compared with results provided by finite element simulations and by a simplified plate model without shear effects. A good agreement is observed between the results coming from the present plate model and finite element computations, which ascertains the effectiveness of the proposed approach to piezoelectric plates. A nonlinear field theory of deformable dielectrics   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Two difficulties have long troubled the field theory of dielectric solids. First, when two electric charges are placed inside a dielectric solid, the force between them is not a measurable quantity. Second, when a dielectric solid deforms, the true electric field and true electric displacement are not work conjugates. These difficulties are circumvented in a new formulation of the theory in this paper. Imagine that each material particle in a dielectric is attached with a weight and a battery, and prescribe a field of virtual displacement and a field of virtual voltage. Associated with the virtual work done by the weights and inertia, define the nominal stress as the conjugate to the gradient of the virtual displacement. Associated with the virtual work done by the batteries, define the nominal electric displacement as the conjugate to the gradient of virtual voltage. The approach does not start with Newton's laws of mechanics and Maxwell-Faraday theory of electrostatics, but produces them as consequences. The definitions lead to familiar and decoupled field equations. Electromechanical coupling enters the theory through material laws. In the limiting case of a fluid dielectric, the theory recovers the Maxwell stress. The approach is developed for finite deformation, and is applicable to both elastic and inelastic dielectrics. As applications of the theory, we discuss material laws for elastic dielectrics, and study infinitesimal fields superimposed upon a given field, including phenomena such as vibration, wave propagation, and bifurcation.  相似文献

In this Note we establish the limit constitutive law of a piezoelectric material with periodically perforated microstructures and whose reference configuration is a thin shell with fixed thickness. The justification of the new associated model (we show that the limit global and local problems are more complicated than the intial one) is obtained using the periodic unfolding method introduced by Cioranescu, Damlamian and Griso.
