Abstract The use of crustacean shells, in particular crab shells, for the removal of metal ions in solution is described. Research studies found in the literature on the ability of the shells, effect of particle size, pH, competitive studies in mixtures of metals, application to real samples such as acid mine drainage, and use of the shells in a column are presented. The major component of the shells that allows uptake to occur is chitin. Several mechanisms are proposed for uptake. With the expansion of human activities, there are more and more living areas adjacent to industrial and/or agricultural activities such as chemical processes, petroleum processes, paint finishing, food processing, livestock farming, composting plants etc. Bad odor is part of several nuisances caused by industrial and/or agricultural activities. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a typical odorous molecule which causes foul odor at very low concentration. This molecule is formed in different industrial installations, in particular in coal combustion, and petrochemical refinery. The separation and/or transformation of H2S from gas phase to odorless products are important processes for sustainable development. In this paper, we communicate the preparation of new sorbents for the sorption of H2S from a synthetic gas effluent. These sorbents consist in an inorganic phase (hydroxyapatite) as host particles, and well-dispersed particles of a metal oxide as guest particles which are the active phase for the removal of H2S. At room conditions, iron, lead, and zinc doped calcium phosphates were found to be effective for the removal of H2S. The performance of the sorbents depends on preparation method and the nature of active phases. This opens new prospects for the treatment of H2S from gas phase. 相似文献

在光全散射法颗粒粒径测量中,被测颗粒系的消光光谱包含有颗粒粒径、折射率等信息。对常用的单峰及双峰R-R分布的可见消光光谱进行模拟,分析了可见消光光谱随粒径和相对折射率变化的规律。选取二阶微分可见消光光谱不连续点对应的波长作为测量波长,并将可见光边界波长同时作为测量波长,在非独立模式下,采用遗传优化算法反演粒径分布。仿真计算与实验验证结果表明,通过消光光谱分析,可以预先确定被测颗粒系的分布状况,缩小优化算法中反演参数的搜索范围。结合最佳波长选择方法,使测量的精度和可靠性明显提高。对测量光谱加入1%随机噪声时,单峰及多峰分布粒径反演均能得到满意的结果。 相似文献

We have developed a simple, robust, and efficient technology utilizing cheap and recoverable materials based on commercially available silicone elastomer networks for removing organic solvents and crude oil from waters. Hydrophobic and oleophilic properties of silicone elastomers endow poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) with the capacity to absorb a large variety of organics, including benzene (B), toluene (T), ethylbenzene (E), and xylene (X), commonly referred to as BTEX, and also crude oils, while at the same time enabling the organic “sponges” to float on waters, which facilitates straightforward handling. We developed a method for generating PDMS particles with variable sizes (ranging from hundreds nanometers to few millimeters) by drop-wise depositing siloxane/cross-linker mixtures into warm water, a process which leads to the cross-linking of the PDMS components. We have tested the capability of the PDMS particles to remove toluene and benzene from water. We also performed similar experiments by utilizing PDMS sheets. In both instances we observed a rapid sorption of the organic phase into PDMS; the amount of absorbed organic solvent depended on the concentration in water and the total mass (volume) of PDMS and did not depend on the geometry of the PDMS “sponge.” In addition, we have examined the uptake of toluene and benzene from toluene/benzene (T/B) mixtures dissolved in water. Our results indicate that the amount of benzene absorbed from the T/B mixtures into PDMS increases relative to the uptake from pure benzene/water solutions. This behavior is associated with toluene acting as a “surfactant” that effectively replaces the more unfavorable PDMS/B contacts with less costly T/B ones. Finally, a simple experiment demonstrates qualitatively that PDMS is also capable of removing crude oils from oil-contaminated waters. 相似文献

Dye removal,antibacterial properties,and morphological behavior of hydroxyapatite doped with Pd ions

Hydroxyapatite (HAP) containing different contents of palladium (Pd) ions were synthesized using the co-precipitation method. The structural and morphological properties of the as-synthesized compositions were investigated using XRD and FESEM. The c/a increased from 0.728 to 0.733 with the lowest and highest contributions of Pd(II), respectively. Furthermore, the morphological features were investigated using FESEM. It was illustrated that Pd-HAP was formed as agglomerated as rod shapes with dimensions in the range of 63.4–110.3 nm for no Pd additions, and the size was reduced reaching 43.4–70.5 nm for the highest Pd contribution. Besides, the maximum height of the roughness (Rt) grew from 183.6 up to 236.5 nm for the lowest and highest Pd(II). Besides, the obtained specific surface area was around 28.3, 42.0, and 63.4 m2/g for 0.0Pd-HAP, 0.6Pd-HAP, and 1.0Pd-HAP, respectively. The antibacterial activity was examined against both Escherichia coli (E-coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), and it obvious that the activity was enhanced upon Pd content. The inhibition zone was increased from no sensitivity reaching 4.3 ± 0.9 and 4.5 ± 0.8 mm for no Pd and the highest one, respectively. The removal efficiency of dyes was examined for methylene blue (MB) and it was shown that after 120 min of irradiation, the removal efficiency reached around 86.4% for the highest contribution of Pd. The pseudo-first-order constant (Kapp) increased from 0.0032 to 0.0179 min−1. The recyclability of Pd-HAP denoted that removal efficiency decreased to 5.65, 8.14, 6.24, 8.76, and 10.2% for different contents of Pd(II) after 6 cycles. 相似文献

就国内外关于集成电路芯片化学机械抛光(CMP)材料去除机理研究的现状和进展进行了评述,总结了集成电路芯片常用介电材料二氧化硅以及导电互连材料钨、铝及铜的化学机械抛光研究现状和进展,进而分析了化学机械抛光过程中化学作用同机械作用的协同效应,指出关于芯片化学机械抛光的材料去除机理尚存在争议,因此有必要在CMP研究领域引入原子力显微镜和电化学显微镜等先进分析测试设备和相关技术,以便在深入揭示CMP过程中材料去除机理的基础上,为更好地控制CMP过程和提高CMP效率提供科学依据. 相似文献
