Traveling wave Ti:LiNbO3 Mach-Zehnder optical modulators with buried electrodes and etched grooves in the SiO2 buffer layer are analyzed by the finite element method. The tradeoff between the bandwidth BW and the half-wave voltage Vπ is discussed. The value of BW/Vπ is used to weight the total performance of the modulator. Taking a thick buffer layer and etching deep grooves in the buffer layer are demonstrated as two effective methods to improve the performance of the modulator. A 3-dB optical bandwidth of 18 GHz with half-wave voltage 5V at a wavelength of 1.55 pm could be obtained even though the electrode is not very thick. When the requirement of half-wave voltage is not very critical, a bandwidth of more than 100 GHz can be obtained. 相似文献

Calibration of the relationship between height and phase is of uttermost importance to perform accurate 3D measurements in phase measurement profilometry. This work reports a different approach to this problem by first looking at the analytical expression for this relationship and determining the regime spanned by the fringe analysis method. The conclusions thus ascertained, amply justify confronting the analytical expression with a simple normalization procedure of the experimental data, with a remarkable matching between both results. Summary The modifications induced by a magnetic field of arbitrary direction and intermediate strength (i.e not larger than 2.35·105 tesla, the ?atomic tesla?) on the lowest singlet and triplet energy states of the hydrogen molecule are studied. Using a
linear combination of products of field-modified atomic orbitals, it is found that increasing the field strength the depth
of the singlet energy well increases and the equilibrium internuclear distance decreases, yielding more rigid and localized
nuclear vibrations. For sufficiently strong fields perpendicular to the internuclear axis, the triplet state exhibits a bonding
behaviour. An explanation of the above results is given in terms of the field-modified electronic-charge distributions in
the internuclear region.

We study GaN/AlN Quantum Dot (QD) superlattices utilizing the STREL environment which allows the building of atomistic models, relaxation of the structures, the calculation of the electronic states and optical transitions and the visualization of the results. The forces are calculated using an appropriate Keating or Stillinger–Weber interatomic potential model and the electronic states and optical transitions using a tight-binding formulation which is economical and produces realistic electronic properties. The relaxed structure has strains mainly in the GaN region which are compressive and small tensile strains in the AlN region, mainly below the QD. In the calculation of the electronic states and of the optical transitions the strains are included realistically at the atomistic level. The study of the wavefunctions close to the fundamental gap show how these strains influence the form and spatial extent of the wavefunction. Very close to the fundamental gap the valence and some conduction states are confined in the QD and have considerable oscillator strength. 相似文献

Erbium and ytterbium codoped double tungstates NaY(WO4)2 crystals were prepared by using Czochralski (CZ) pulling method. The absorption spectra in the region 290-2000 nm have been recorded at room temperature. The Judd-Ofelt theory was applied to the measured values of absorption line strengths to evaluate the spontaneous emission probabilities and stimulated emission cross sections of Er3+ ions in NaY(WO4)2 crystals. Intensive green and red lights were measured when the sample were pumped by a 974 nm laser diode (LD), especially, the intensities of green upconversion luminescence are very strong. The mechanism of energy transfer from Yb3+ to Er3+ ions was analyzed. Energy transfer and nonradiative relaxation played an important role in the upconversion process. Photoexcited luminescence experiments are also fulfilled to help analyzing the transit processes of the energy levels. 相似文献

We show that the time evolution of near-field scattering speckles, originated by a fluid suspension of particles, provides information about the velocity field in the fluid. This information can be extracted from a statistical analysis of speckle fields taken at different times, either by measuring their cross-correlation function or by recovering the power spectrum corresponding to the difference between the two speckle fields. Experimental data are in accordance to the expected behaviors. The results are independent of the scatterer's size, allowing one to exploit the technique also with sub-wavelength tracking particles. 相似文献

We present here a tight-binding-like modelling of two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystals (PCs). Adopted from solid-state physics,

initio study of defects in PCs. We demonstrate here for a 2D triangular lattice of dielectric rods in air, the existence of
this localized basis and the possibility to study large scale complex dielectric structures deviating from periodicity. Specific
