Methanol electrooxidation on smooth platinum electrodes bonded to solid polymer electrolytes was studied in water and acid
solution by voltammetric measurements with different scanning rates. An enhancement of the oxidation rates was observed in
these systems as compared to identical platinum electrodes in contact with liquid electrolytes. This electrocatalytic effect
strongly depends on the measuring conditions and on the electrode potential. The reasons for the catalytic effects at different
potentials are discussed.

An electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) is employed for monitoring the growth of poly(neutral red) films on
platinum in the electrolytic solution containing 5.0 mmol dm−3 neutral red, 0.3 mol dm−3 H2SO4, and 0.5 mol dm−3 Na2SO4. The in situ measurement of the frequency changes of the EQCM reveals that both the adsorption/desorption of neutral red
and the formation of poly(neutral red) film can be observed together with anion sorption/desorption during the redox transformation
of the polymer, and that the polymerization rate of neutral red increases slowly before the 11th cycle and then increases
quickly with increasing number of potential cycles.

Highly hydrophobically modified (with n-dodecylamide chain) linear poly(acrylic acid)s (HHMPAAH) and poly(sodium acrylate)s (HHMPAANa) with various degrees of grafting
(τ) were synthesized and used as emulsifiers of the n-dodecane/water system. The type of emulsion, oil in water (O/W) or water in oil (W/O), was investigated as a function of
the polymer chemical structure (τ, salt or acid form of the copolymer) and aqueous phase electrolyte concentration (NaNO3). Increasing τ and/or salt concentration was found to favor the formation of inverse emulsions. Direct liquid–liquid dispersions
are more likely to form with poly(sodium acrylate)s than with poly(acrylic acid)s. Hence, field variables such as τ, pH and
ionic strength are relevant parameters to control emulsion type. Moreover, a balanced polyelectrolyte neither soluble in oil
nor in water was synthesized for the first time. With this original emulsifier, the dispersion type was found to change from
O/W to W/O with polymer salting out. The work provides convenient model system for fundamental studies of polymer conformation
at liquid–liquid interfaces.

Aniline and pyrrole have been oxidized with ammonium peroxydisulfate in aqueous solutions, in the presence of equimolar quantities of hydrochloric acid. The oxidation of pyrrole was faster; the induction period typical of aniline oxidation was absent in the case of pyrrole. As the proportion of oxidant-to-monomer molar concentration increased up to 1.5, the yield increased in both cases. Similarities between the two oxidations are illustrated and discussed. The oxidant-to-monomer molar ratio 1.25 is proposed to be the optimum stoichiometry, in the accordance with the data published in the literature. The conductivities of the polymers prepared were only slightly dependent on the oxidant-to-monomer ratio in the range 0.3-1.5, and were of the order of 100 S cm−1 for polyaniline and ∼10−2-10−1 S cm−1 for polypyrrole. Outside this interval, the conductivity of both polymers was reduced. Polyaniline having conductivity ∼10 S cm−1 was produced in solutions of phosphoric acid of various concentrations. On the contrary, the conductivity of polypyrrole was reduced as the concentration of phosphoric acid became higher. The type of protonation is discussed with the help of FTIR spectra by analyzing the ammonium salts obtained after deprotonation. Sulfate or hydrogen sulfate anions produced from peroxydisulfate always constitute a part of the counter-ions. 相似文献

Topography and thickness of hydrophilic polymer coatings of fused-silica capillaries for capillary electrophoresis (CE) were investigated using atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and profilometry. Three hydrogels, poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) [poly(HEMA)], poly(diethylene glycol monomethacrylate) [poly(DEGMA)], and poly(triethylene glycol monomethacrylate) [poly(TEGMA)], were deposited using two procedures, either by simple physical sorption of the polymers, or by derivatization of the capillary wall surface with glycidyl methacrylate (EPMA) followed by polymerization of the appropriate monomers. The performance of the modified capillaries was tested under CE conditions (decrease in the electroosmotic flow, EOF dependence on pH, separation of milk and standard proteins). It has been found that the most important property of the polymer coating is its thickness, whereas its topography and the degree of its hydrophobicity are less significant. Amphiphilic diblock copolymers consisting of a hydrophobic polystyrene block (PS) and a hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide)
block (PEO) with block sizes of 1000 or 3000 g/mol for both blocks were studied at the air/water and toluene/water interface.
Measurements of the film pressure π of spread monolayers at the water surface reveal two limiting regimes of the π−a
m isotherms, in which the mean molecular area a
m is determined either by the size of the hydrophilic or the hydrophobic blocks of the PS-PEO molecules. The interfacial activity
of the block copolymers at the toluene/water interface was studied by measuring the interfacial tension σ over a wide range
of concentrations. Pronounced differences in the temperature dependence of the interfacial tension were observed, depending
mostly on the block length of the hydrophilic PEO block. From the temperature dependence of σ it is inferred that for the
block copolymers with the PEO block size of 3000 g/mol the phase inversion temperature (PIT) is well above 60 °C while for
those with a PEO block size of 1000 g/mol the PIT is below or near 25 °C in the toluene/water system.
