Serial optical interconnection is proposed for connections in a Torus asynchronous transfer mode switch. A cross-point switch was developed that operates at a bit rate of 20 Gbit/s. The switching operation was successfully performed using cascaded cross-point switches through an optical interconnection configuration consisting of commercial optoelectronics devices. A detailed design of a picosecond laser oscillator is made by using optical resonance theory and semiconductor saturable absorber mirror continuous wave mode-locked technology. Mode parameters in the optical resonance including beam sizes on the laser crystal and mode locker are calculated. By theoretical calculations, 3.7 W output power is obtained at a pump power of 11 W and the optical to optical efficiency is 34% in the designed model of picosecond laser. Based on the detailed design, an experiment is proceeded and a picosecond laser oscillator of about 3.5 W output power with 10.6 W pump power is fabricated. The optical to optical efficiency of the laser is 33%, the pulse duration is about 20 ps, and the repetition rate is about 80.3 MHz. In this paper, the impacts of Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) on the performance of high-speed optical communication system have been reported at different bit rates. The two systems are modeled using older fibers with same PMD coefficient at different bit rates and third is with the new fiber with less PMD coefficient than that of the previous two. The attenuation, chromatic dispersion and non-linear effects have been disabled, so that all the variation of the results is due to PMD. The bit rate is varied from 2.5 to 40 Gbps and the length is varied from 1000 to 20,000 km. It is shown that the impact of PMD increases with the bit rate of system. It is also reported that the impact of PMD becomes intolerable at the bit rates of more than 40 Gbps. And also the PMD produces very minute impact on the system performance for same bit rate with the variation in the fiber length. 相似文献

A surface wave of frequency lying within bulk band of transverse waves is found in an elastic medium coated with a thin layer endowed with a surface mass density, surface Young's modulus and surface bending modulus. The wave is a particular case of surface resonance with infinite lifetime. In materials with negative Poisson's ratio (auxetics) the wave exists even for coating material with zero bending modulus, whereas with positive Poisson's ratio it requires the surface bending modulus to be larger than the surface Young's modulus. The manifestation of this wave in the reflection coefficient seems promising for fabrication of devices showing monochromator properties. 相似文献

This study investigates pitch control, register, and singing mode related movements of the laryngo-pharyngeal structures by radiographic methods. One trained female singer served as the subject. The results show that singing voice production involves complex movements in the laryngeal structures. Pitch related increase in the thyro-arytenoid distance (vocal fold length) is nonlinear, slowing down as pitch rises. Similar observations have been made earlier. At the highest pitches, a shortening of the distance can be seen, suggesting the use of alternative pitch control mechanisms. The various observations made support the existence of three registers in this trained female singing voice. Open and covered modes of singing seemed to be distinguishable on the basis of different amounts of inner and outer forces acting on the larynx. Therefore, caution must be exercised when generalizing from the results. 相似文献
