We introduce a new operation for the difference of two sets A and C of R n depending on a parameter . This new operation may yield as special cases the classical difference and the Minkowski difference, if the sets A and C are closed, convex sets, if int(C) is nonempty, and if A or C bounded. Continuity properties with respect to both the operands and the parameter of this operation are studied. Lipschitz properties of the Minkowski difference between two sets of a normed vector space are proved in the bounded case as well as in the unbounded case without condition on the dimension of the space.  相似文献

Planewave propagation in a simply moving, dielectric-magnetic medium that is isotropic in the co-moving reference frame, is classified into three different categories: positive-, negative-, and orthogonal-phase-velocity (PPV, NPV, and OPV). Calculations from the perspective of an observer located in a non-co-moving reference frame show that, whether the nature of planewave propagation is PPV or NPV (or OPV in the case of non-dissipative mediums) depends strongly upon the magnitude and direction of that observer's velocity relative to the medium. PPV propagation is characterized by a positive real wavenumber, NPV propagation by a negative real wavenumber. OPV propagation only occurs for non-dissipative mediums, but weakly dissipative mediums can support nearly OPV propagation.  相似文献

Let X0 be a smooth uniformly convex hypersurface and f a postive smooth function in Sn. We study the motion of convex hypersurfaces X(·,t) with initial X(·,0)=θX0 along its inner normal at a rate equal to log(K/f) where K is the Gauss curvature of X(·,t). We show that the hypersurfaces remain smooth and uniformly convex, and there exists θ*>0 such that if θ<θ*, they shrink to a point in finite time and, if θ>θ*, they expand to an asymptotic sphere. Finally, when θ=θ*, they converge to a convex hypersurface of which Gauss curvature is given explicitly by a function depending on f(x).  相似文献

The quantum analog of Pauli matrices are introduced and investigated. From these matrices and an appropriate trace over spinorial indices we construct a quantum Minkowski metric. In this framework we show explicitly the correspondence between the SL(2,C) and Lorentz quantum groups. Five matrices of the quantum Lorentz group are constructed in terms of the R matrix of SL(2,C) group. These matrices satisfy Yang–Baxter equations and two of which have adequate properties tied to the quantum Minkowski space structure as the reality conditions of the coordinates and the symmetrization of the metric. It is also shown that the Minkowski metric leads to invariant and central lengths of four-vectors.  相似文献

By an elementary calculation we obtain the exact mean values of Minkowksi functionals for a standard model of percolating sets. In particular, a recurrence theorem for the mean Euler characteristic recently put forward is shown to be incorrect. Related previous mathematical work is mentioned. We also conjecture bounds for the threshold density of continuum percolation, which are associated with the Euler characteristic.  相似文献

To study the Schneider's projection problem, Lutwak, Yang and Zhang recently introduced a new .affine invariant functional U(P) for convex polytopes in R^n. In the paper, we obtain the analytic expression of the affine-invariant U(P) defined on a specific subclass of origin-symmetric convex polytopes in Rn and give an application of U(P) to the Lp-Minkowski problem.  相似文献

On a crystallographic group, a condition of being topologically discrete is imposed which is weaker than is the conventional requirement for an action on space to be discontinuous. Isomorphism classification is given for crystallographic groups in three crystallographic classes in a 4-dimensional Minkowski space, which are defined by unimodular subgroups of the general Lorentz group. Circle numbers are defined to reflect the Euclidean area-content and, for p ≠ 2, suitably defined non-Euclidean circumference properties of the l 2,p -circles, p ∈ [1, ∞]. The resulting function is continuous, increasing, and takes all values from [2, 4]. The actually chosen dual l 2,p -geometry for measuring the arc-length is closely connected with a generalization of the method of indivisibles of Cavalieri and Torricelli in the sense that integrating such arc-lengths means measuring area content. Moreover, this approach enables one to look in a new way into the co-area formula of measure theory which says that integrating Euclidean arc-lengths does not yield area content except for p = 2. The new circle numbers play a natural role, e.g., as norming constants in geometric measure representation formulae for p-generalized uniform probability distributions on l 2,p -circles.  相似文献

In this paper some properties of a symmetric tensor field T(X, Y) = g(A(X), Y) on a Riemannian manifold (M,g) without boundary which satisfies the quasi-Einstein equation Rij-S/2gij=Tij+bξiξj are given.
