We analyze the effect of a colored non Gaussian noise on a model of
a random walker moving along a ratchet potential. Such a model was
motivated by the transport properties of motor proteins, like
kinesin and myosin. Previous studies have been realized assuming
white noises. However, for real situations, in general we could
expect that those noises be correlated and non Gaussian. Among other
aspects, in addition to a maximum in the current as the noise
intensity is varied, we have also found another optimal value of the
current when departing from Gaussian behavior. We show the relevant
effects that arise when departing from Gaussian behavior,
particularly related to current's enhancement, and discuss its

In this paper, we use random walk theory to describe the length dynamics of microtubules, one of the principal components of the cytoskeleton. We present a simple two-state model (growing and shrinking) of microtubule length evolution that incorporates a variable rate of switching between the states. Using the generating function technique, we calculate the mean length of microtubule, its variance and diffusion coefficient. We also report analytical and computer simulation results for the mean number of positive monomers in microtubule, and find good qualitative agreement with experimental data. 相似文献

Tumour cells have to acquire a number of capabilities if a neoplasm is to become a cancer. One of these key capabilities is
increased motility which is needed for invasion of other tissues and metastasis. This paper presents a qualitative mathematical
model based on game theory and computer simulations using cellular automata. With this model we study the circumstances under
which mutations that confer increased motility to cells can spread through a tumour made of rapidly proliferating cells. The

We discuss martingales, detrending data, and the efficient market hypothesis (EMH) for stochastic processes x(t) with arbitrary diffusion coefficients D(x,t). Beginning with x-independent drift coefficients R(t) we show that martingale stochastic processes generate uncorrelated, generally non-stationary increments. Generally, a test for a martingale is therefore a test for uncorrelated increments. A detrended process with an x-dependent drift coefficient is generally not a martingale, and so we extend our analysis to include the class of (x,t)-dependent drift coefficients of interest in finance. We explain why martingales look Markovian at the level of both simple averages and 2-point correlations. And while a Markovian market has no memory to exploit and presumably cannot be beaten systematically, it has never been shown that martingale memory cannot be exploited in 3-point or higher correlations to beat the market. We generalize our Markov scaling solutions presented earlier, and also generalize the martingale formulation of the EMH to include (x,t)-dependent drift in log returns. We also use the analysis of this paper to correct a misstatement of the ‘fair game’ condition in terms of serial correlations in Fama's paper on the EMH. We end with a discussion of Levy's characterization of Brownian motion and prove that an arbitrary martingale is topologically inequivalent to a Wiener process. 相似文献

A diffusion equation including source terms, representing randomly distributed sources and sinks is considered. For quasilinear growth rates the eigenvalue problem is equivalent to that of the quantum mechanical motion of electrons in random fields. Correspondingly there exist localized and extended density distributions dependent on the statistics of the random field and on the dimension of the space. Besides applications in physics (nonequilibrium processes in pumped disordered solid materials) a new evolution model is discussed which considers evolution as hill climbing in a random landscape.We dedicate this work to the memory of Ilya M. We investigate a piecewise linear (area-preserving) mapT describing two coupled baker transformations on two squares, with coupling parameter 0c1. The resulting dynamical system is Kolmogorov for anyc0. For rational values ofc, we construct a generating partition on whichT induces a Markov chain. This Markov structure is used to discuss the decay of correlation functions: exponential decay is found for a class of functions related to the partition. Explicit results are given forc=2–n. The macroscopic analog of our model is a leaking process between two (badly) stirred containers: according to the Markov analysis, the corresponding progress variable decays exponentially, but the rate coefficients characterizing this decay are not those determined from the one-way flux across the cell boundary. An anisotropic triangular Ising model in which the first- and second-order parameters and the field parameters are functionally related is solved exactly by representing the distribution of the atom patterns in terms of a suitably constructed Markov process.
