Reverse inequalities for zonoids and their application

We prove inequalities for mixed volumes of zonoids with isotropic generating measures. A special case is an inequality for zonoids that is reverse to the generalized Urysohn inequality, between mean width and another intrinsic volume; here the equality case characterizes parallelepipeds. We apply this to a question from stochastic geometry. It is known that among the stationary Poisson hyperplane processes of given positive intensity in n-dimensional Euclidean space, the ones with rotation invariant distribution are characterized by the fact that they yield, for k∈{2,…,n}, the maximal intensity of the intersection process of order k. We show that, if the kth intersection density is measured in an affine-invariant way, the processes of hyperplanes with only n fixed directions are characterized by a corresponding minimum property.     

Semi-orthogonal decomposability of the derived category of a curve

We show that the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on a smooth projective curve except the projective line admits no non-trivial semi-orthogonal decompositions.     

Restriction varieties and geometric branching rules

This paper develops a new method for studying the cohomology of orthogonal flag varieties. Restriction varieties are subvarieties of orthogonal flag varieties defined by rank conditions with respect to (not necessarily isotropic) flags. They interpolate between Schubert varieties in orthogonal flag varieties and the restrictions of general Schubert varieties in ordinary flag varieties. We give a positive, geometric rule for calculating their cohomology classes, obtaining a branching rule for Schubert calculus for the inclusion of the orthogonal flag varieties in Type A flag varieties. Our rule, in addition to being an essential step in finding a Littlewood–Richardson rule, has applications to computing the moment polytopes of the inclusion of SO(n) in SU(n), the asymptotic of the restrictions of representations of SL(n) to SO(n) and the classes of the moduli spaces of rank two vector bundles with fixed odd determinant on hyperelliptic curves. Furthermore, for odd orthogonal flag varieties, we obtain an algorithm for expressing a Schubert cycle in terms of restrictions of Schubert cycles of Type A flag varieties, thereby giving a geometric (though not positive) algorithm for multiplying any two Schubert cycles.     

Geometry of plane curves

In this paper we obtain, for a class of plane curves, extensions of the well-known relation of inflection points, double points and bitangencies established by Fabricius-Bjerre for closed curves.     

Integrability of a nuclear spin generator

In this work we consider a nuclear spin generator given by where α, β, κ are nonnegative parameters. It models the two temperature feedback nuclear reactor problem as model by Vreeke and Sandquist (1970) [4]. We contribute to the understanding of its global dynamics, or more precisely, to the topological structure of its orbits by studying the integrability problem. We prove that β=0 or β≠0 and κ=0 are the only values of the parameters for which the system is integrable, and in this case we provide an explicit expression for its first integrals.     

Growth estimates for modified Green potentials in the upper-half space

In this paper, we construct a modified Green potential in the upper-half space of the n-dimensional Euclidean space. Meanwhile, the behavior at infinity of it is also given.     

Bogomolov restriction theorem for Higgs bundles

Let (E,θ) be a stable Higgs bundle of rank r on a smooth complex projective surface X equipped with a polarization H. Let C⊂X be a smooth complete curve with [C]=n⋅H. If where , then we prove that the restriction of (E,θ) to C is a stable Higgs bundle. This is a Higgs bundle analog of Bogomolov's restriction theorem for stable vector bundles.     

A parallel four step domain decomposition scheme for coupled forward–backward stochastic differential equations

Motivated by the idea of imposing paralleling computing on solving stochastic differential equations (SDEs), we introduce a new domain decomposition scheme to solve forward–backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDEs) parallel. We reconstruct the four step scheme in Ma et al. (1994) [1] and then associate it with the idea of domain decomposition methods. We also introduce a new technique to prove the convergence of domain decomposition methods for systems of quasilinear parabolic equations and use it to prove the convergence of our scheme for the FBSDEs.

On products and duality of binary, quadratic, regular operads

Since its introduction by Loday in 1995, with motivation from algebraic K-theory, dendriform dialgebras have been studied quite extensively with connections to several areas in Mathematics and Physics. A few more similar structures have been found recently, such as the tri-, quadri-, ennea- and octo-algebras, with increasing complexity in their constructions and properties. We consider these constructions as operads and their products and duals, in terms of generators and relations, with the goal to clarify and simplify the process of obtaining new algebra structures from known structures and from linear operators.
