A Robin type boundary condition with a sign-changing coefficient is treated. First, the associated linear elliptic eigenvalue problem is studied, where the existence of a principal eigenvalue is discussed by the use of a variational approach. Second, the associated semilinear elliptic boundary value problem of logistic type is studied and the one parameter-dependent structure of positive solutions is investigated, where results obtained are due to the construction of suitable super- and subsolutions by using the principal positive eigenfunctions of the linear eigenvalue problem. 相似文献

This paper is devoted to the study of the existence of extremal solutions to a first-order initial value problem on an interval of an arbitrary time scale. We prove the existence of extremal solutions for problems satisfying Carathéodory's conditions. Moreover, they are approximated uniformly by a sequence of lower and upper solutions to this problem, respectively. ABSTRACTA method for determining levels of fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), and iodine (I) in marine geological samples using wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence is presented here. Samples are prepared as pressed powder pellets. The method makes full use of the advantages of the ability of the modern X-ray fluorescence spectrometer to detect ultra-light elements and high-powered X-rays. A series of calibration standards with an appropriate concentration range was developed using a standard addition method. Empirical coefficients were used to correct for matrix effects in the case of F and Cl, the rhodium Kα -Compton peak was used as internal standard for Br matrix corrections, and the rhodium Kb-Compton peak was used to correct for the matrix effect on I. For % concentration of the analyte, the precision (relative standard deviation) of the method was <5%. For concentrations <0.1%, the relative standard deviation depended heavily on the count rates (or concentration). The accuracy of the method was validated by comparison of the results to similar reference materials. The detection levels of this method (counting time100 s) were 100, 5, 0.5, and 10 µg g?1 for F, Cl, Br, and I, respectively. The method was here used to determine the levels of halogens in samples of 19 marine sediments (China, Russia, Canada, American), 10 marine manganese nodules (China, Russia, American, Germany, India, Japan), 4 cobalt-rich crust reference materials (Russia, China), reference materials, and 3 phosphorites. 相似文献

Abstract We give here a class of counterexamples to the Fefferman–Phong inequality for systems of pseudodifferential operators, which contains Brummelhuis’ one as a particular case. The main ingredient in the proof is the use of “localized operators” associated with the system, and Hörmander's example of a positive-semidefinite matrix whose Weyl quantization is not nonnegative. This work studies a variant of the online generalized assignment problem, where there are m ? 2 heterogeneous servers to process n requests which arrive one by one over time. Each request must either be assigned to one of the servers or be rejected upon its arrival, before knowing any information of future requests. There is a corresponding weight (or revenue) for assigning each request to a server, and the objective is to maximize the total weights obtained from all the requests.
