Continuous chromatographic separation of glucose-fructose mixtures using anion-exchange resins

Summary A semi-continuous, counter-current chromatographic refiner (SCCR) was packed with an anion resin in the bisulphite form and used to separate mixtures of sugars from different feedstocks. Products with purities of more than 99% were achieved and solid concentrations of the fructose products of 12% w/v were possible. The deterioration of the anion resin was controlled by simple precautions and thus its useful life was substantially prolonged.     

Propagating transverse electric and transverse magnetic modes in liquid crystal-clad planar waveguides

ABSTRACT

In a planar dielectric waveguide, weak confinement of a propagating mode in a high index core leads to a measurable evanescent interaction with the cladding. In this work, we study the effect of a reorientable anisotropic cladding on the behaviour of Transverse Electric (TE) and Transverse Magnetic (TM) mode polarisations using a liquid crystal (LC)-clad waveguide architecture. The polarised evanescent field of a guided mode interacts with a voltage-tunable birefringent LC cladding to deflect an out-coupled beam. Experimental measurements are coupled with a theoretical framework and show good consistency with simulation results. We isolate the effect of mode confinement by changing the thickness of the high index core. Interactions between the LC index ellipsoid and the mode polarisation are probed by changing the initial alignment of the LC. Finally, we examine the difference in deflection between TE and TM modes, which incorporates both a change in mode confinement and a difference in LC index components.     

Evaluation of the limit of performance of an analytical method based on a statistical calculation of its critical concentrations according to ISO standard 11843: Application to routine control of banned veterinary drug residues in food according to European Decision 657/2002/EC

Traceability of the measurement of analytical parameters capable of evaluating the performance of methods is an important concept for the assessment of quality for the routine control, especially for residue monitoring of non-authorized medicinal substances in food from animal origin. The European Decision no. 657/2002/EC recommends to calculate two statistical limits, CCα and CCβ, which allow to evaluate the critical concentrations above which the method reliably distinguish and quantify a substance taking into account the variability of the method and the statistical risk to take a wrong decision. The calculation, which can be derived from the ISO standard no. 11843 is applied on a routine basis. An example displays a very simple way for evaluating the performance of an LC-MSMS method which has been validated a few years ago and is qualified onto a Micromass Quattro LCZ tandem mass spectrometer to monitor and confirm the nitrofuran metabolite residues in food from animal origin. 分析化学中液膜富集方法的研究——痕量锰的液膜分离富集与火焰原子吸收光谱法测定

本文以N_(205)-P_(507)-煤油-液体石蜡-HCl液膜体系分离富集了痕量Mn~(2+),五次提取分离,富集倍数可达87倍,回收率近于98％。与火焰原子吸收光谱法结合,可富集测定ppb级的Mn~(2+)。

单胺类神经递质,多巴胺(DA)、去甲肾上腺素(NA)和肾上腺素(A)是哺乳动物和人类中枢重要的信息传递物质。了解脑组织中各部位单胺类神经递质的含量对于研究其生理功能、有关疾病的诊断和药物及手术疗效的评价均有重要的意义。     

Studies on separation mechanisms of biological molecules on a polyvinyl alcohol column

Summary The chromatographic separation mechanism on a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) column in aqueous systems was explored utilizing several different types of compound such as polyethylene glycols, carbohydrates, pyrimidine and purine bases, fatty acids, monophosphate nucleotides and glycyl-peptides. Two types of separation mechanisms were found to occur for these substrates. The polyethylene glycols and the carbohydrates were eluted by size-exclusion chromatography. The retention behavior of the other substrates could be explained by the solvophobic theory, suggesting that the predominant separation mode was reversed-phase chromatography. The occurrence of reversed-phase chromatography was also indicated by the remarkable effect of the addition of ion-association reagents to the chromatographic system on the retention of the monophosphate nucleotides.     

二苯并18－冠－6辅助钡离子在1，2－二氯乙烷／水微界面转移的伏安研究

应用液／液界面微电极对二苯并１８－冠－６（ＤＢ１８－Ｃ－６）辅助推动Ｂａ~（２＋）在１，２－二氯乙烷／水（ＤＣＥ／Ｗ）界面转移的电化学过程进行了详细探讨，证明该过程遵循ＴＩＣ机理，是受扩散控制的可逆过程。通过转移电流和反应物浓度之间的线性关系，测定了Ｂａ~（２＋）以及用其它方法难以测定的ＤＢ１８－Ｃ－６。     

Simultaneous multichannel mass-specific detection for high-performance liquid chromatography using an array detector sector-field mass spectrometer

The use of a separation step, such as liquid chromatography, prior to inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP–MS) has become a common tool for highly selective and sensitive analyses. This type of coupling has several benefits including the ability to perform speciation analysis or to remove isobaric interferences. Several limitations of conventional instruments result from the necessity to scan or pulse the mass spectrometer to obtain a complete mass spectrum. When the instrument is operated in such a non-continuous manner, duty cycle is reduced, resulting in poorer absolute limits of detection. Additionally, with scanning instruments, spectral skew can be introduced into the measurement, limiting quantitation accuracy. To address these shortcomings, a high-performance liquid chromatograph has been coupled to an ICP–MS capable of continuous sample introduction and simultaneous multimass detection. These features have been realized with a novel detector array, the focal plane camera. Instrument performance has been tested for both speciation analysis and for the elimination of isobaric interferences. Absolute limits of detection in the sub picogram to tens of picograms regime are obtainable, while the added mass dimension introduced by simultaneous detection dramatically increases chromatographic peak capacity.

Solid-phase synthesis of liquid crystalline isoxazole library

Combinatorial library of isoxazoles was prepared by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition on solid support. p-Cyano derivatives showed nematic and/or smectic A phases. A bilayer smectic phase for 2h is proposed by the combination of molecular mechanics calculation and X-ray diffraction experiment.
