Brittle stars (Ophiura spp.) and other benthic macrofauna were collected in a prospective mariculture area in the North Sea to determine if these taxa could be used as indicator species to track nutrients released from future offshore aquaculture sites. We analysed natural carbon and nitrogen stable isotopic signatures in tissues from macrofauna and compared these to six feed ingredients and four experimental diets made thereof, as well as to a commercial feed with and without lipid and carbonate removal. Our data suggest practicability of using isotopic signatures of Ophiura spp. to track aquaculture-derived organic material if plant-based fish diet ingredients and commercial feed were used for fish farming in the German Exclusive Economic Zone. Diets with high fish meal content would not be detected in Ophiura spp. using isotopic measures due to the similarity with the marine background. Our data provide valuable baseline information for studies on the impact of offshore aquaculture on the marine environment.  相似文献

We present a calculation of the neutrino-nucleon scattering cross-section which takes into account the nuclear correlations in the relativistic random phase approximation (RPA). Our approach is based on a quantum-hadrodynamics model with exchange of σ, ω, π, ρ and δ mesons. In view of applications to neutrino transport in the final stages of supernova explosion and proto-neutron star cooling, we study the evolution of the neutrino mean free path as a function of density, proton-neutron asymmetry and temperature. Special attention was paid to the issues of renormalization of the Dirac sea, residual interactions in the tensor channel, coupling to the delta-meson and meson mixing. In contrast with the results of other authors, we find that the neutral-current process is not sensitive to the strength g' of the residual contact interaction. As a consequence, it is found that RPA corrections with respect to the mean-field approximation amount to only 10% to 15% at high density. Received: 27 June 2001 / Accepted: 14 January 2002  相似文献

The main aim of this study is to explore the existence and salient features of spherically symmetric relativistic quark stars in the background of massive Brans-Dicke gravity. The exact solutions to the modified Einstein field equations are derived for specific forms of coupling and scalar field functions using the equation of state relating to the strange quark matter that stimulates the phenomenological MIT-Bag model as a free Fermi gas of quarks. We use a well-behaved function along with the Karmarkar condition for class-one embedding as well as junction conditions to determine the unknown metric tensors. The radii of strange compact stars viz., PSR J1416-2230, PSR J1903+327, 4U 1820-30, CenX-3, and EXO1785-248, are predicted via their observed mass for different values of the massive Brans-Dicke parameters. We explore the influences of the mass of scalar field \begin{document}$m_{\phi}$\end{document}, coupling parameter \begin{document}$\omega_{\rm BD}$\end{document}, and bag constant \begin{document}${\cal{B}}$\end{document} on state determinants and perform several tests on the viability and stability of the constructed stellar model. Conclusively, we find that our stellar system is physically viable and stable as it satisfies all the energy conditions and necessary stability criteria under the influence of a gravitational scalar field.  相似文献

The synthesis of five homopolymers (PS)3 and the corresponding diblock copolymer 3‐arm stars of the (PS‐b‐P2VP)3 type is reported through atom transfer radical polymerization. Such star homo‐ and copolymers are prepared without any addition of solvent (bulk polymerization). The kinetics study results lead to the ability of predicting the best polymerization time with high values of monomer to polymer conversion, sufficient polydispersity indices and average molecular weights. Molecular characterization through size exclusion chromatography, viscometry, low‐angle laser light scattering, proton and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H NMR and 13C NMR, respectively) verified the successful synthesis of both homopolymer and copolymer 3‐arm star‐like architectures. Furthermore, the morphological characterization of the final copolymers is reported through transmission electron microscopy studies verifying the self‐assembly without any indication of homopolymer or Cu(I) traces. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Fundamental understanding of microphase separation in ABC miktoarm copolymers is vital to access a plethora of nonconventional morphologies. Miktoarm stars based on poly(cis 1,4-isoprene) (I), poly(styrene) (S), and poly(2-vinylpyridine) (V) are model systems, which allow systematic studies of the effects of composition, chemical microstructure, and temperature on the thermodynamics of microphase separation. Eleven ISV-x (I:S:V = 1:1:x, v:v:v) miktoarm copolymers were synthesized by anionic polymerization affording well-defined copolymers with a variable V arm. Equilibrium bulk morphologies of all samples, as evidenced by small-angle X-ray scattering, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and self-consistent field theory, showed a systematic transition from lamellae (x ≈ 0–0.2) to [8.8.4] tiling (x ≈ 0.6–0.9) to cylinders in undulating lamellae (x ≈ 2–4) and, finally, to hexagonally packed core–shell cylinders (x ≈ 5–8). Chemical microstructure of the I arm [poly(cis 1,4-isoprene)] versus poly(3,4-isoprene) is shown to play important role in affecting morphological behavior. To reconcile differences between ISV-x star morphologies reported in the literature and those reported herein, even for the same composition, effects of the microstructure of I arm on the Flory–Huggins parameter between I and V arms were taken into account in a qualitative manner. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The complex nature of close binary evolution is briefly reviewed. Population synthesis calculations of zero‐age cataclysmic variable stars (ZACVs) are presented using a common envelope (CE) efficiency parameter, αCE, that is a function of the core mass of the primary. Specifically, we investigate the possibility that αCE is different for CE evolution involving red giant branch (RGB) primaries than for asymptotic giant branch (AGB) primaries. We calculate a sequence of model orbital period distributions in present‐day ZACVs for 11 different combinations of efficiency parameters (αRGB, αAGB). We find that if CE evolution is much less efficient for RGB primaries than for AGB primaries (αRGB ~ 0.1 or less), the number of CVs that form below 2 h is significantly decreased compared with standard constant αCE models. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The Pareto probability distribution is widely applied in different fields such us finance, physics, hydrology, geology and astronomy. This note deals with an application of the Pareto distribution to astrophysics and more precisely to the statistical analysis of masses of stars and of diameters of asteroids. In particular a comparison between the usual Pareto distribution and its truncated version is presented. Finally, a possible physical mechanism that produces Pareto tails for the distribution of the masses of stars is presented.   相似文献

We investigate the phase structure of color superconducting quark matter at intermediate densities for two- and three-flavor systems. We thereby focus our attention on the influence of charge neutrality conditions as well as -equilibrium of the different phases. These constraints are relevant in the context of quark matter at the interior of compact stars.
