Bounds for complete elliptic integrals of the first kind

In this note by using some elementary computations we present some new sharp lower and upper bounds for the complete elliptic integrals of the first kind. These results improve some known bounds in the literature and are deduced from the well-known Wallis inequality, which has been studied extensively in the last 10 years.

Line integrals and Green's formula on time scales

In this paper we study curves parametrized by a time scale parameter, introduce line delta and nabla integrals along time scale curves, and obtain an analog of Green's formula in the time scale setting.

Contributions of non-extremum critical points to the semi-classical trace formula

We study the semi-classical trace formula at a critical energy level for a h-pseudo-differential operator on whose principal symbol has a totally degenerate critical point for that energy. We compute the contribution to the trace formula of isolated non-extremum critical points under a condition of “real principal type”. The new contribution to the trace formula is valid for all time in a compact subset of but the result is modest since we have restrictions on the dimension.

In this paper, the authors prove that the flows of homogeneous vector field $Q(x)$ at infinity are topologically equivalent to the flows of the tangent vector field $Q_T(u)$ $(u\in S^2)$ on the sphere $S^2$, and show the theorems for the global topological classification of $Q(x)$. They derive the necessary and sufficient conditions for the global asymptotic stability and the boundedness of vector field $Q(x),$ and obtain the criterion for the global topological equivalence of two homogeneous vector fields.

Small Transitive Families of Subspaces

A family of subspaces of a complex separable Hilbert space is transitive if every bounded operator which leaves each of its members invariant is scalar. This article surveys some results concerning transitive families of small cardinality, and adds some new ones. The minimum cardinality of a transitive family in finite dimensions (greater than 2) is 4. In infinite dimensions a transitive pair of linear manifolds exists but the minimum cardinality of a transitive family of dense operator ranges or norm-closed subspaces is not known. However, a transitive family of dense operator ranges with 5 elements can be found, and so can a transitive family of norm-closed subspaces with 4 elements. In finite dimensions (> 1) three nest algebras (corresponding to maximal nests) can intersect in the scalar operators, but two cannot. It is not known if this is the case in infinite dimensions for maximal nests of type ω + 1. Four such nest algebras can intersect in the scalar operators. Nonlinear Filtering for Diffusions in Random Environments

Suppose that the signal X to be estimated is a diffusion process in a random medium W and the signal is correlated with the observation noise. We study the historical filtering problem concerned with estimating the signal path up until the current time based upon the back observations. Using Dirichlet form theory, we introduce a filtering model for general rough signal X ^W and establish a multiple Wiener integrals representation for the unnormalized pathspace filtering process. Then, we construct a precise nonlinear filtering model for the process X itself and give the corresponding Wiener chaos decomposition.
