Self-implementation of ISO 9001 versus external support: an examination in laboratories involved in chemical measurement

The purpose of this research was to study how externalizing the process of implementing ISO 9001 influences the dissemination of cultural values and practices of quality management in laboratories involved in chemical measurement. Employee attitudes and behaviors may be heavily influenced by factors such as the mix of internal workers and consultants in a work group. Some researchers have described cases in which internal workers develop negative work attitudes and behaviors from having to work with consultants and have demonstrated the need to examine the dynamics between internal workers and consultants to understand the influence of ISO 9001 externalization. Three hundred and fifty-nine useful questionnaires were received. The results showed that implementation occurs most successfully through a process of linked internalization. This category involves limiting the labor of the consultant basically to moderate advising, review and internal audit. The laboratory personnel are responsible for developing the documentation of the ISO 9001 system. The implementation process is run by the members and directors of the laboratory.     

Experience of implementing ISO 17025 for the accreditation of a university testing laboratory

The experience of implementing a quality system on ISO 17025, and the accreditation of some tests for a university laboratory, is presented in the example of the Environmental Radiology Laboratory. Such implementation in a university institution is a difficult task, since the setting and environment are both unfavourable. The particularities are the collaboration of many independent units of the university, and the involvement of teachers and young researchers who have to coordinate all these different tasks, which makes the number of people working quite variable. Some specific aspects of the system are discussed. The conclusion is that implementation of a quality system on ISO 17025 and accreditation are completely achievable, and are helpful activities to put university members in touch with the real world and broaden their minds, which in the end has a positive impact on research studies and academic content.     

Beta decay of 94Pd and of the 71 s isomer of 94Rh

The β decay of ⁹⁴Pd and of the 71s isomer of ⁹⁴Rh was investigated by using total γ-ray absorption techniques. Several levels in ⁹⁴Rh are established, including a new low-lying isomer characterized by a half-life of 0.48(3)μs and a de-exciting transition of 55keV. E2 multipolarity is determined for this transition by measuring the intensities of its γ-rays and the characteristic X-rays from its electron conversion. On the basis of the measured reduced β-decay transition rates to known ⁹⁴Ru levels and shell model considerations, the spin-parity of the 71s and the 0.48μs isomers of ⁹⁴Rh is assigned to be (4⁺) and (2⁺), respectively. The β-decay strength distributions measured for ⁹⁴Pd and the 71s isomer of ⁹⁴Rh yield Q _EC values of 6700(320) and 9750(320)keV for these decays and give evidence for the population of those states below and above the magic N = 50 gap that belong to both components of the 0g spin-orbit doublet.     

Field measurement of airborne sound insulation between rooms with non-diffuse sound fields at low frequencies

Procedures for the field measurement of airborne sound insulation between rooms with diffuse fields are described in International Standard ISO 140-4. However, many dwellings contain rooms with volumes less than 50 m³, where low frequency measurements are less reliable; hence there is a need for a measurement procedure to improve the reliability of field measurements in rooms with non-diffuse fields. Procedures are proposed for sound pressure level and reverberation time measurements for the 50, 63 and 80 Hz third octave bands. The sound pressure level measurement combines corner microphone positions with positions in the central region of each room. This provides a good estimate of the room average sound pressure level with significantly improved repeatability.

计算光谱成像技术的成像质量评价

计算光谱成像是一种新型的光谱成像技术,具有高通量、快照式成像等优点,但关于其成像质量评价的研究还很少。工作中探索了一种计算光谱成像系统成像质量的定量评价方法。该方法利用ISO 12233靶标作为目标源,进行成像、图谱信息重构,并通过测量重构图的调制传递函数(MTF)作为计算光谱成像系统的成像质量评价标准。结果表明,对于单帧采样,随着混叠谱段数的增加,重构图MTF迅速下降,当混叠波段的数目达到9个时,重构图MTF与目标场景图像相比已下降50%。该研究有助于理解计算光谱成像技术的优缺点,合理安排混叠谱段的数量,以精确地复原目标信息。     

Four vignettes on interactions with Martin Seah: The impact of his work

Four brief vignettes briefly describe ways that Dr. Martin Seah influenced my career and those of many others. These brief stories highlight aspects of his (i) career-long contributions to the quantification and accuracy of surface analysis, (ii) ability to identify and willingness to fill information gaps and needs, (iii) significant efforts to communicate the nature of the challenges and what was known about best practices in an engaging and often humorous manner, and (iv) many delightful professional and social interactions that also contributed to community impact.     

Beam test of CSES silicon strip detector module

The silicon-strip tracker of the China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite(CSES) consists of two doublesided silicon strip detectors(DSSDs) which provide incident particle tracking information.A low-noise analog ASIC VA140 was used in this study for DSSD signal readout.A beam test on the DSSD module was performed at the Beijing Test Beam Facility of the Beijing Electron Positron Collider(BEPC) using a 400–800 MeV/c proton beam.The pedestal analysis results,RMSE noise,gain correction,and intensity distribution of incident particles of the DSSD module are presented.
