Measurements have been done in the millimeter wave region on a composite waveguide which comprises a dielectric rod waveguide connecting two metal rectangular waveguides. Such a waveguide has been used by us in a Josephson harmonic mixer installed in a small metal cryostat, to prevent the thermal invasion from outside environment and to transmit both signal and LO waves with small losses. The measured transmission loss, that is caused mainly by the coupling loss between metal rectangular waveguides (TE10 mode) and a dielectric rod waveguide (HE11 mode), has been less than 2dB in the frequency range of 52–104 GHz.  相似文献

An improved generalized admittance (GAM) matrix technique is presented in this paper. Matrix transformation eliminates the singularity factor of GAM, denominator (1+Γ), because of new presentations of GAM. The relationship equations between II-port current and I-port incidence wave is computed by mode matching method. The generalized scattering matrix (GSM) of waveguide structure and its discontinuity problems is obtained with relationship equations and reflection coefficients. The GSM’s of millimeter-wave multistepped bend and T-junction in rectangular waveguide are computed by the improved GAM technique. The results comparisons between the proposed method and commercial software HFSS10.0 show the validity of the proposed method, which improves the validity of the GAM technique and reduces mathematical efforts. It is general, very efficient and can be used to solve other complicated and multiport network problems.  相似文献

We present the design of a 3-dimensional (3-D) noncoherent optical hybrid network. We also report the design of a new family of 3-D codes for fiber optic hybrid networks. We show that the hybrid network allows for shorter bit times and a higher number of users, given a set chip rate, compared to previously conceived networks. These newly designed hybrid single-pulse-per-row (HSPR) codes have very low autocorrelation side-lobes and very small cross-correlation peaks. We compare the performance of our hybrid model using our codes with the Optical Orthogonal Codes (OOCs) and Temporal/Spatial (T/S) codes and show that the new network can support a greater number of users and higher data rates than those using OOCs and T/S codes.  相似文献

It is shown that the type of lateral waveguide of a laser diode cannot be determined uniquely based on just the measured magnitude of astigmatism. For a unique determination, the K-factor of Petermann, which characterizes the wavefront curvature at the laser output facet, must be measured as well. In order to determine the type of lateral waveguide, a setup for measuring astigmatic distances in the range 0–200 m with an error of ±2 m and a K-factor with an error of 20% was developed. Operational features of the setup were analyzed, and a technique that allows one to minimize the effect of beam ellipticity on the measurement results was found. Using the technique, the optimization of spatial matching of a laser diode with a ring interferometer of the butterfly type was accomplished. For transformation of the astigmatic elliptical beam into the axially symmetric mode of the interferometer, we have used an optical system that consists of two cylindrical and one spherical lenses. The algorithm for designing the matching system was developed, and the 85% injection of radiation of a AlGaAs laser diode into the principal mode of a ring interferometer was experimentally demonstrated.  相似文献

The performances of the proto-exchanged(PE) LiNbO_3 waveguides as a key ele-ment of acoustooptical deflector or spectrum analyzer were distinctly improved after anneal-ing.In this paper,reasons for the improvement are analysed by applying the theories of modecoupling and multilayer waveguides,so as to provide a theoretical basis for further improve-ment of the performances of the devices.  相似文献

Plasmonics is a rapidly developing field concerning light manipulation at the nanoscale with many potential applications, of which plasmonic circuits are promising for future information technology. Plasmonic waveguides are fundamental elements for constructing plasmonic integrated circuits. Among the proposed different plasmonic waveguides, metallic nanowires have drawn much attention due to the highly confined electromagnetic waves and relatively low propagation loss. Here we review the recent research progress in the waveguiding characteristics of metallic nanowires and nanowire-based nanophotonic devices. Plasmon modes of both cylindrical and pentagonal metallic nanowires with and without substrate are discussed. Typical methods for exciting and detecting the plasmons in metallic nanowires are briefly summarized. Because of the multimode characteristic, the plasmon propagation and emission in the nanowire have many unique properties, benefiting the design of plasmonic devices. A few nanowire-based devices are highlighted, including quarter-wave plate, Fabry-Prot resonator, router and logic gates.  相似文献

We show that it is possible to produce terahertz wave generation in an open waveguide, which includes a multilayer dielectric plate. The plate consists of two dielectric layers with a corrugated interface. Electrons, drifting in the potential well, interact with the non-uniform electric field which is induced near the dielectric interface by the natural wave of the waveguide. The corrugated period and parameters of the electronic system are chosen in order to ensure the most effective interaction of electrons with a wave. Generation of electromagnetic waves is achieved by converting the electrons? energy into the electromagnetic wave energy.  相似文献

We study optical analogues of higher-order Dirac solitons (HODSs) in binary waveguide arrays. Like higher-order solitons obtained from the well-known nonlinear Schrödinger equation governing the pulse propagation in an optical fiber, these HODSs have amplitude profiles which are numerically shown to be periodic over large propagation distances. At the same time, HODSs possess some unique features. Firstly, the period of a HODS depends on its order parameter. Secondly, the discrete nature in binary waveguide arrays imposes the upper limit on the order parameter of HODSs. Thirdly, the order parameter of HODSs can vary continuously in a certain range.  相似文献

An analysis is given on the finite element method (FEM) for calculating the various parameters of optical modulators and a computer program is written to solve the finite element equation. Based on this method, a Mach-Zehnder type electro-optic modulator with coplanar waveguide (CPW) electrode is designed and fabricated. When compared with the Fourier series method, small differences on the 3-dB bandwidth, characteristic impedance and half-wave voltage, etc. are obtained.  相似文献
