Increased utilization of mechanically stable synthetic matrices particularly silica gel as a solid support and its surface modification either by impregnation of organic ligands directly or covalent grafting through spacer unit for extractive concentration of trace elements are highlighted in the present article. Experimental evidences for existence of surface silanol and its chemical nature have explored the idea of silica surface modification. Recent methods of development in functionalized silica synthesis by attachment of various ligands or organic reagents to the silica surface and techniques of characterization of the modified surface have been reported. Analytical applications of various modified silica surfaces, in particular, adsorption of trace elements taking separation and preconcentration into account from complex synthetic mixture as well as natural water is presented. 相似文献

Both single-molecule detection (SMD) methods and miniaturization technologies have developed very rapidly over the last ten years. By merging these two techniques, it may be possible to achieve the optimal requirements for the analysis and manipulation of samples on a single molecule scale. While miniaturized structures and channels provide the interface required to handle small particles and molecules, SMD permits the discovery, localization, counting and identification of compounds. Widespread applications, across various bioscience/analytical science fields, such as DNA-analysis, cytometry and drug screening, are envisaged. In this review, the unique benefits of single fluorescent molecule detection in microfluidic channels are presented. Fluorescence lifetimes of vibrational levels of the first electronically excited state (ā 2 A′) of HSO, determined by the technique of discharge flow and laser-induced fluorescence, are 81 ± 10, 74 ± 8, and 76 ± 14 μs for υ3′ = 0, 1 and 2, respectively. In order to elucidate the influence on the lipidic environment on the recognition process of its membrane associated receptor, the interactions of the vasoconstrictor peptide endothelin 1 with various phospholipids have been investigated using different lipidic model membranes: monolayers at constant surface pressure, vesicles and micelles. A monolayer study of ET1 adsorbed onto the water surface has shown that the C-terminus of the peptide points towards the aqueous phase. Penetration measurements into lipidic monolayers indicate that ET1 adsorbs to phospholipids with an orientation similar to that of the air–water interface and fluorescence measurements are in agreement with such an orientation of the peptide. This adsorption is selective for neutral phospholipids and indicates that the nature of the phospholipid headgroups is of major importance for the approach of the membrane associated receptor. 相似文献

The adsorption of the cationic dye acridine orange (AO) by different monoionic laponites leads to changes in the colloid properties of this synthetic mineral in aqueous solutions. The organic cation is adsorbed by the mechanism of cation exchange. Small amounts of adsorbed dye keep the clay in a peptized state with all metallic cations. Greater amounts of AO result in the neutralization of the electric charge of the clay, and its flocculation. In excess AO the charge of the clay platelets becomes positive and the clay is peptized. The colloid properties are studied by absorbance curves in which the absorbance is described as a function of the degree of saturation with constant clay concentrations or with constant dye concentrations. In the absorbance curves three regions can be identified. The transition between the first and second or the second and third regions depend on the exchangeable metallic cation initially present in the clay. The spectrophotometric method is useful in identifying the presence of tactoids and flocculation mechanism, whether it results in card-house or in book-house flocs. 相似文献

A new family of coumarin derivatives containing amide group with different alkyl chain lengths was synthesized and their properties as organogelators were evaluated. It was found that the organogelation abilities were not obviously affected by the alkyl spacer length of amide group. Helical morphologies formed either in nonpolar or high polar solvents by most of the gelators. Occurrence of reversible and stereoselective photodimerization of the gel formed by 4-(7′-coumarinoxy)-N-octadecylbutanamide (3a) in cyclohexane was confirmed by 1H NMR, UV absorption, and fluorescence spectra. The photoreaction of the gel proceeded without any dissolution, but the drastic microscopic changes of gel morphologies accompanied with the irradiation were identified using SEM and AFM investigations. 相似文献

A study has been undertaken of stress relaxation in ovalbumin thermotropic gels with a concentration of 8–20%, depending on time and temperature of heating (respectively, 20–60 min, 70°–110°C), at pH 2.5–10.0. In all instances, the dependence of the initial gel elasticity modulus on heating has a single maximum. Gelation conditions corresponding to this maximum are considered optimal. Optimal gelation time is 30 min, regardless of pH. On the other hand, the optimal heating temperature depends on pH. A new branched-pore adsorption model has been developed using an external mass transfer coefficient, K
f, an effective diffusivity, D
eff, a lumped micropore diffusion rate parameter, K
b, and the fraction of macropores, f, to describe sorption kinetic data from initial adsorbent-adsorbate contact to the long-term adsorption phase. This model has been applied to an environmental pollution problem—the removal of two dyes, Acid Blue 80 (AB80) and Acid Red 114 (AR114), by sorption on activated carbon. A computer program has been used to generate theoretical concentration-time curves and the four mass transfer kinetic parameters adjusted so that the model achieves a close fit to the experimental data. The best fit values of the parameters have been determined for different initial dye concentrations and carbon masses. Since the model is specifically applicable to fixed constant values of these four parameters, a further and key application of this project is to see if single constant values of these parameters can be used to describe all the experimental concentration-time decay curves for one dye-carbon system.The error analysis and best fit approach to modeling the decay curves for both dye systems show that the correlation between experimental and theoretical data is good for the fixed values of the four fitted parameters. A significantly better fit of the model predictions is obtained when K
