The National Ignition Facility (NIF) is a 192-beam laser
facility presently under construction at LLNL. When completed, NIF will be a
1.8-MJ, 500-TW ultraviolet laser system. Its missions are to obtain fusion
ignition and to perform high energy density experiments in support of the
US nuclear weapons stockpile. Four of the NIF beams have been commissioned
to demonstrate laser performance and to commission the target area including
target and beam alignment and laser timing. During this time, NIF
demonstrated on a single-beam basis that it will meet its performance goals
and demonstrated its precision and flexibility for pulse shaping, pointing,
timing and beam conditioning. It also performed four important experiments
for Inertial Confinement Fusion and High Energy Density Science. Presently,
the project is installing production hardware to complete the project in
2009 with the goal to begin ignition experiments in 2010. An integrated plan
has been developed including the NIF operations, user equipment such as
diagnostics and cryogenic target capability, and experiments and
calculations to meet this goal. This talk will provide NIF status, the plan

Optical model, scalar or vectorial one, describing behaviour of an optical field within a diode-laser cavity, is one of the
most important parts of modelling of a diode-laser operation. As compared to more accurate vectorial optical approaches, scalar
ones are known to be less exact but simultaneously they need much less computation time. Besides, they have been sometimes
found to be surprisingly exact even beyond their confirmed range of validity. Therefore, in this paper, real validity limits
of their application have been determined by comparing their simplified results with more exact results obtained with the
aid of vectorial models. The analysis comprises a comparison of an application of the most popular scalar approach to optical
properties of diode lasers, i.e., the effective index method, and the vectorial method of lines for the standard 1.3-μm GaAs-based
stripe-geometry diode laser. The scalar model has been found to be quite exact in the case of a determination of the effective
refractive index, i.e., the wavelength of emitted radiation, whereas its exactness in the lasing threshold analysis is much
worse, especially in the case of higher-order modes. Our analysis is concluded with a determination of the regions where both

Designs of cavities for fundamental and high harmonic operation in Large Orbit Gyrotron (LOG) are discussed. The fundamental operation allows one to use beam currents in the range from 200 A to 300 A achieve output power of the order of 9–10 MW at frequency 143.6 GHz. Mode competition calculations show that stable oscillations in the TE1,4 mode using high beam currents are possible even with the pitch factor 1.3 which is significantly lower than the design value 1.55. For the second harmonic operation, the maximum current used for excitation of the TE2,4 mode is 60 A and the optimum magnetic field is 7.6 T. A cavity design for fourth harmonic operation using the TE4,4 mode is also presented. 相似文献

A scheduling model for a production system including machining, setup and assembly operations is considered. Production of a number of single-item products is ordered. Each product is made by assembling a set of several different parts. First, the parts are manufactured in a flow-shop consisting of multiple machines. Then, they are assembled into products on a single assembly stage. Setup operation and setup time are needed when a machine starts processing the parts or it changes items. The operations are partitioned into several blocks. Each block consists of the machining operations, the setup operations, and the assembly operation(s) for one or several products. The parts of the same item in a block are processed successively. The objective function is the mean completion time for all products. We consider a problem to partition the operations into blocks and sequence the parts in each block so as to minimize the objective function. Solution procedures using pseudo-dynamic programming and a branch-and-bound method are proposed. Computational experiments are carried out to evaluate the performance of the solution procedures. It has been found that a good near-optimal schedule is obtained efficiently by the proposed solution procedures. 相似文献
