In the effective-mass approximation the single-electron states in a semiconductor cylindrical nanolayer in the regime of strong quantization are considered. The explicit form of the energy spectrum and envelope wave functions of single-electron states is obtained in the case of large and moderate radii of the system. The corresponding absorption bands of dipole and quadrupole optical transitions in the layer are calculated.  相似文献

The field of view of optical heterodyne systems are usually limited by a simple criterion- namely, that ARR 2, where AR is an effective aperture, R the corresponding field of view and the optical wavelength. This paper will demonstrate that with a simple change of systems geometry and the possible use of array detectors, this severe restriction can be alleviated considerably and, in some cases, eliminated. Both coherent sources and thermal radiation sources are considered. This might suggest that heterodyne systems that were eliminated in the past because of that criterion alone, could turn out to be, not only possible, but even advantageous compared to other techniques.  相似文献

Emission and excitation spectra of ZnS:Cu microcrystals trapped in porous silica xerogels are presented. This system is characterized by intense, long-lived green emission at room temperature. It was observed that this emission was greatly reduced after compressing the xerogel samples.  相似文献

We report a new application of the optical tweezers, where a harmonically driven oscillating tweezer is combined with the forward light scattering and lock-in amplification techniques, for probing the mechanics of nanostructures in soft materials in a broad frequency range. Model independent dynamic moduli G and G of the material at a localized, sub-micron area can be measured directly from the displacement and the phase shift of the particle in the oscillating trap. The probe particles can be as small as 200nm and the displacement of the particle was in the range of a few nanometers. To illustrate the new methodology, we show the microscopic viscoelastic properties of a transient polymer network in the vicinity of a silica bead.  相似文献

Summary Radiation inhibition in the many-atom Jaynes-Cummings model being a consequence of cooperative as well as cavity detuning effects is examined. Numerical solutions for the time evolution of the atomic population inversion exhibiting quasi-stationary behaviour are presented. Furthermore, the cooperative energy shift of these quasi-stationary states is numerically computed by using a special projection operator. We review our recent work in the implementation of optical single-sideband (OSSB) modulation and in the application of this modulation format to microwave photonics and optical testing systems. We have developed an enhanced OSSB modulator for wide-band operation, the so-called bidirectional OSSB modulator, and a simplification of this scheme for narrow-band applications. These OSSB modulators are based on the use of a standard single-electrode Mach-Zehnder electro-optic modulator (MZ-EOM) and passive fiber-optic components. In both designs, the OSSB operation is shown to be independent of the MZ-EOM bias. Therefore, the optical modulation depth at the output of the device can be enhanced using minimum transmission biasing to provide suppression of the optical carrier. Finally, we demonstrate the application of OSSB modulators to the improvement of microwave/millimeter-wave subcarrier multiplexing fiber-optic links and to narrow-band fiber radio systems. In addition, we analyzed the feasibility and the limitations of an optical vector network analysis technique based on OSSB modulation that can provide sub-picometer wavelength resolution.  相似文献

The importance of buried interfaces in our everyday lives and in current scientific research is highlighted, along with experimental difficulty associated with studying such systems. We present an overview of the application of second harmonic generation and sum-frequency spectroscopy to the study of buried interfaces. Several examples from the current literature are presented, ranging from chemical and biological, to electrical and magnetic interfaces. The importance of this work in the context of ongoing research in these areas is discussed. Finally, we provide a snapshot of the state of the art in non-linear optical spectroscopy by mentioning several new directions that are likely to have a large impact on future research into the physics and chemistry of buried interfaces.  相似文献
