Core quantum postulates including the superposition principle and the unitarity of evolutions are natural and strikingly simple. I show that—when supplemented with a limited version of predictability (captured in the textbook accounts by the repeatability postulate)—these core postulates can account for all the symptoms of classicality. In particular, both objective classical reality and elusive information about reality arise, via quantum Darwinism, from the quantum substrate. This approach shares with the Relative State Interpretation of Everett the view that collapse of the wavepacket reflects perception of the state of the rest of the Universe relative to the state of observer’s records. However, our “let quantum be quantum” approach poses questions absent in Bohr’s Copenhagen Interpretation that relied on the preexisting classical domain. Thus, one is now forced to seek preferred, predictable, hence effectively classical but ultimately quantum states that allow observers keep reliable records. Without such (i) preferred basis relative states are simply “too relative”, and the ensuing basis ambiguity makes it difficult to identify events (e.g., measurement outcomes). Moreover, universal validity of quantum theory raises the issue of (ii) the origin of Born’s rule, pk=|ψk|2, relating probabilities and amplitudes (that is simply postulated in textbooks). Last not least, even preferred pointer states (defined by einselectionenvironment—induced superselection)—are still quantum. Therefore, unlike classical states that exist objectively, quantum states of an individual system cannot be found out by an initially ignorant observer through direct measurement without being disrupted. So, to complete the ‘quantum theory of the classical’ one must identify (iii) quantum origin of objective existence and explain how the information about objectively existing states can appear to be essentially inconsequential for them (as it does for states in Newtonian physics) and yet matter in other settings (e.g., thermodynamics). I show how the mathematical structure of quantum theory supplemented by the only uncontroversial measurement postulate (that demands immediate repeatability—hence, predictability) leads to preferred states. These (i) pointer states correspond to measurement outcomes. Their stability is a prerequisite for objective existence of effectively classical states and for events such as quantum jumps. Events at hand, one can now enquire about their probability—the probability of a pointer state (or of a measurement record). I show that the symmetry of entangled states—(ii) entanglement—assisted invariance or envariance—implies Born’s rule. Envariance also accounts for the loss of phase coherence between pointer states. Thus, decoherence can be traced to symmetries of entanglement and understood without its usual tool—reduced density matrices. A simple and manifestly noncircular derivation of pk=|ψk|2 follows. Monitoring of the system by its environment in course of decoherence typically leaves behind multiple copies of its pointer states in the environment. Only pointer states can survive decoherence and can spawn such plentiful information-theoretic progeny. This (iii) quantum Darwinism allows observers to use environment as a witness—to find out pointer states indirectly, leaving systems of interest untouched. Quantum Darwinism shows how epistemic and ontic (coexisting in epiontic quantum state) separate into robust objective existence of pointer states and detached information about them, giving rise to extantons—composite objects with system of interest in the core and multiple records of its pointer states in the halo comprising of environment subsystems (e.g., photons) which disseminates that information throughout the Universe.  相似文献

量子力学的建立不仅奠定了当代科学的基础,而且在推动当代技术革命方面取得了惊人的成功。然而,对于量子力学诠释(interpretation of quantum mechanics)——理解波函数如何刻画微观世界,人们迄今为止并未形成共识。量子力学发展的这种二元状态不仅带来了认识论方面的误导,而且依据备受争议的哥本哈根诠释建立起来的量子技术会有许多根本性问题。
量子力学的哥本哈根诠释存在二元结构的问题:微观世界的运动用量子力学描述,是一个幺正演化,而观察或测量却依赖于量子系统外部的经典世界(仪器、观察者、环境),表现出来的波包塌缩是非幺正的。为此,包括爱因斯坦、薛定谔、温伯格等在内的一些著名学者对哥本哈根诠释提出了尖锐的批评。80年过去了,为克服量子力学的哥本哈根诠释二元论困境,人们提出各种各样的量子力学诠释,包括多世界诠释、量子退相干诠释、自洽历史诠释以及量子达尔文主义等。文章将简要介绍和评述这些量子力学诠释的基本思想、它们之间的逻辑关系及其实验检验的可能性。进一步澄清量子力学诠释中的基本概念,可以避免量子观念滥用导致的意识论上的问题和量子技术发展误入歧途。  相似文献

A classical origin for the Bohmian quantum potential, as that potential term arises in the quantum mechanical treatment of black holes and Einstein–Rosen (ER) bridges, can be based on 4th-order extensions of Einstein's equations. The required 4th-order extension of general relativity is given by adding quadratic curvature terms with coefficients that maintain a fixed ratio, as their magnitudes approach zero, with classical general relativity as a singular limit. If entangled particles are connected by a Planck-width ER bridge, as conjectured by Maldacena and Susskind, then a connection by a traversable Planck-scale wormhole, allowed in 4th-order gravity, describes such entanglement in the ontological interpretation. It is hypothesized that higher-derivative gravity can account for the nonlocal part of the quantum potential generally.  相似文献

This paper proposes algorithms to construct fuzzy probabilities to represent or model the mixed aleatory and epistemic uncertainty in a limited-size ensemble. Specifically, we discuss the possible requirements for the fuzzy probabilities in order to model the mixed types of uncertainty, and propose algorithms to construct fuzzy probabilities for both independent and dependent datasets. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithms is demonstrated using one-dimensional and high-dimensional examples. After that, we apply the proposed uncertainty representation technique to isocontour extraction, and demonstrate its applicability using examples with both structured and unstructured meshes.  相似文献

Given a computable ordinal Λ, the transfinite provability logic GLPΛ has for each ξ<Λ a modality [ξ] intended to represent a provability predicate within a chain of increasing strength. One possibility is to read [ξ]? as ? is provable in T using ω-rules of depth at most ξ, where T is a second-order theory extending ACA0.In this paper we will formalize such iterations of ω-rules in second-order arithmetic and show how it is a special case of what we call uniform provability predicates. Uniform provability predicates are similar to Ignatiev's strong provability predicates except that they can be iterated transfinitely. Finally, we show that GLPΛ is sound and complete for any uniform provability predicate.  相似文献

We present abstraction techniques that transform a given non-linear dynamical system into a linear system, or more generally, an algebraic system described by polynomials of bounded degree, so that invariant properties of the resulting abstraction can be used to infer invariants for the original system. The abstraction techniques rely on a change-of-bases transformation that associates each state variable of the abstract system with a function involving the state variables of the original system. We present conditions under which a given change-of-bases transformation for a non-linear system can define an abstraction. Furthermore, the techniques developed here apply to continuous systems defined by Ordinary Differential Equations (ODEs), discrete systems defined by transition systems and hybrid systems that combine continuous as well as discrete subsystems.The techniques presented here allow us to discover, given a non-linear system, if a change-of-bases transformation involving degree-bounded polynomials yielding an algebraic abstraction exists. If so, our technique yields the resulting abstract system, as well. Our techniques enable the use of analysis techniques for linear systems to infer invariants for non-linear systems. We present preliminary evidence of the practical feasibility of our ideas using a prototype implementation.  相似文献

Bloch's transformation from the zeroth‐order space for a perturbation problem to the corresponding space of exact eigenvectors, was found as a geometrically defined alternative to the algebraically constructed Van Vleck transformation. Klein's theorem of uniqueness transferred some of this geometrical interpretation to its canonical form . Quite recently Kvaal has taken a large step further by writing as a product of commuting planar rotations, obtained by describing and in terms of certain principal vectors and canonical angles. Kvaal's approach is now developed further, using a new commutation relation which simplifies algebraic manipulations substantially. It allows for a simple definition of an operator for the angle between and which has Kvaal's vectors and angles as eigenvectors and eigenvalues. Klein's theorem is refined in various ways.
