The Cox-Merz empirical relationship between the linear (oscillatory) and nonlinear (steady-state) viscosities has been shown to be valid for many polymeric systems. Here, we present an equivalent expression to relate the linear (G) and nonlinear (N 1) elastic properties of viscoelastic systems. Like the Cox-Merz relationship, it uses a combination of elastic and viscous parameters. The modified form of the storage modulus is then equivalent to the Cox-Merz complex viscosity. It can be used to correlate with (half) the normal force at numerically equal circular frequency and shear rate, respectively.This new expression and the Cox-Merz rule are tested for a range of polymeric and colloidal systems. It is found that both expression work for the polymeric systems considered, but fail for the colloidal systems. In the latter, the steady state values of viscosity and elasticity are consistently low, and replacing them by the complex viscosity and our new elastic expression only makes matters worse.For polymer systems, we suggest this is a general but not universal observation, since we are aware of exceptions to the rule that polymeric systems obey the Cox-Merz rule for viscosity and our rule for elasticity. For colloidal systems we find that neither rule is obeyed for any of our systems.  相似文献

The object of this work was to prepare high-density polyethylene (HDPE)/ethylene–propylene–diene terpolymer (EPDM)/conductive carbon black (CB) composites by dynamic curing and to characterize the positive-temperature-coefficient (PTC) performances of the composites.EPDM and dicumyl peroxide were preblended in a research mill. The roll-milled strands were blended with HDPE and CB in a Haake mixer. The sheet resistivity and morphology of the HDPE/EPDM/CB composites with or without the dynamic curing process were investigated. It was concluded that the dynamically cured blends exhibit better PTC performance than the simple blends without dynamic curing. The effects of shear intensity and dicumyl peroxide content during the dynamic curing process were discussed for the PTC characteristics of the HDPE/EPDM/CB composites.  相似文献

In this work, the variations of the relaxation times are investigated above and below the glass transition temperature of a model amorphous polymer, the polycarbonate. Three different techniques (calorimetric, dielectric and thermostimulated currents) are used to achieve this goal. The relaxation time at the glass transition temperature was determined at the temperature dependence convergence of the relaxation times calculated with dynamic dielectric spectroscopy (DDS) for the liquid state and thermostimulated depolarisation currents (TSDC) for the vitreous state. We find a value of τ(Tg) = 110 s for PC samples. The knowledge of the temperature dependence, τ(T), and the value τ(Tg) enables to determine the glass-forming liquid fragility index, m. An easy to handle and stable racemization catalyst for secondary alcohols is obtained by an in situ mixture of readily available [Ru(cymene)Cl2]2 with chelating aliphatic diamines. Optimization of the reaction revealed that N,N,N′,N′-tetramethyl-1,3-propanediamine as ligand racemizes aromatic alcohols completely within 5 h. This easy to handle and stable catalytic system is combined with a lipase-catalyzed resolution to provide an efficient dynamic kinetic resolution of secondary alcohols.  相似文献

This paper describes the application of Snyman's dynamic minimisation method to a fitted potential surface of H3. Comparisons are made with conventional algorithms. A method is described to extend Snyman's method so that it will find only a particular kind of stationary point. It is emphasized that this method enables saddle points to be found without having to resort to approaches based on trial and error.  相似文献

1,2-Bis(dimethylamino)-1,2-dibora-[2]ferrocenophane (1) was prepared by the reaction of 1,1′-dilithioferrocene with 1,2-dichlorobis(dimethylamino)diborane(4). In addition to hindered rotation about the B-N bond (ΔG > 80 kJ mol−1), another dynamic process was revealed by 1H and 13C NMR in solution at low temperature, and interpreted as motion of the cyclopentadienyl rings between staggered and eclipsed conformations (ΔG(233 K) = 44 ± 1 kJ mol−1).  相似文献

The ionic transport process in polymer electrolytes (such as polyethylene oxide) wassimulated numerically on a two dimensional square lattice where charge carriers areaccommodated by the lattice sites connected randomly with available bonds to represent theamorphous chain configuration. Following the dynamic bond percolation theory(DBPT),the chainmotion contribution to the ionic conduction was incorporated via periodical renewal of the randombond configuration. To check and extend the prediction made by DBPT employing global abruptbond renewal,spatial correlation of the bond reassignment was introduced to the system by: 1)regional bond renewal and 2) organized bond motion. It is found that the difference between thediffusivities simulated involving regional bond renewal and those of DBPT becomes negligiblewhen the bond renewal rate approaches the carrier hopping rate.  相似文献

The present paper reports the results about a study of mechanical, thermal, dynamic mechanical and electrical properties of housing (weather shed) materials for outdoor polymeric insulators. Silicone rubber, ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) and alloys of silicon-EPDM are known polymers for use as housing in high voltage insulators. The result of dynamical mechanical measurement shows that the storage modulus of blends enhances with increase EPDM in formulation. It can be seen from the result of TGA measurement that initial thermal degradation of silicone rubber improves by the effect of EPDM in blends. The blends of silicone-EPDM show good breakdown voltage strength compared to silicone rubber. Surface and volume resistance of silicone rubber improve by EPDM content. The mechanical properties of EPDM such as strength, modulus and elongation at break improve by silicone.  相似文献

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy allows the examination of corrosion susceptibility and resistance for different construction materials, in particular the determination of the properties of their passive films. This technique makes possible the analysis of electrochemical processes in time domain, including rapid phenomena such as changes in the properties of passive films, but it has never been used for passive layer cracking examination. In many cases, fracture of the passive film under tensile stresses leads to stress corrosion cracking. Therefore, investigations of passive layer cracking on austenitic stainless steels under tensile stresses facilitate the understanding of the mechanism of stress corrosion cracking in these common engineering materials. The effect of static tensile stresses on the passive film cracking behaviour of type 304L stainless steel immersed in 0.5 M NaCl solution at room temperature has been investigated.
