Spin-rotation coupling and Fermi–Walker transport

It is demonstrated that a spin-rotation coupling term only appears in the Hamiltonian of a Dirac particle if the rotating frame obeys the rules of Fermi–Walker transport. This is illustrated by examples in Minkowski space and the paper concludes with some speculations about spin-rotation coupling in Kerr space-time.     

Poisson fiber bundles and coupling Dirac structures

Poisson fiber bundles are studied. We give sufficient conditions for the existence of a Dirac structure on the total space of a Poisson fiber bundle endowed with a compatible connection. We also provide some examples.      

Nucleon octet in a relativistic logarithmic potential

A simple independent-quark-model based on the Dirac equation with logarithmic potential is used to calculate several properties of octet baryons such as magnetic moment, the axial vector coupling constantg _A (n) for neutronβ-decay and the charge radius of the proton. In view of the simplicity of the model, the results obtained are quite good.     

The first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator on Kähler manifolds

If M^2m is a closed Kähler spin manifold of positive scalar curvature R, then each eigenvalue λ of type r (r {1, …, [(m + 1)/2]}) of the Dirac operator D satisfies the inequality λ² ≥ rR₀/4r − 2, where R₀ is the minimum of R on M^2m. Hence, if the complex dimension m is odd (even) we have the estimation

for the first eigenvalue of D. In the paper is also considered the limiting case of the given inequalities. In the limiting case with m = 2r − 1 the manifold M^2m must be Einstein. The manifolds S², S² × S², S² × T², P³( ), F( ), P³( ) × T² and F( ³) × T², where F( ³) denotes the flag manifold and T² the 2-dimensional flat torus, are examples for which the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator realizes the limiting case of the corresponding inequality. In general, if M^2m is an example of odd complex dimension m, then M^2m × T² is an example of even complex dimension m + 1. The limiting case is characterized by the fact that here appear eigenspinors of D² which are Kählerian twistor-spinors.     

1-forms over the moduli space of irreducible connections defined by the spectrum of Dirac operators

Let (P) be the moduli space of irreducible connections of a G-principal bundle P over a closed Riemannian spin manifold M. Let D_A be the Dirac operator of M coupled to a connection A of P and f a smooth function on M. We consider a smooth variation A(u) of A with tangent vector ω and denote T_ω:= (D_A(u)−f) (u=0. The coefficients of the asymptotic expansion of trace (T_ω · e^-t(D_A−f)2) near t=0 define 1-forms a^(k)_f, K=0, 1, 2, … on (P). In this paper we calculate aa⁽⁰⁾_f, a⁽¹⁾_f, a⁽²⁾_f and study some of their properties. For instance using the 1-form a⁽²⁾_f for suitable functions f we obtain a foliation of codimension 5 of the space of G-instantons of S⁴.     

Shot noise suppression in a series graphene tunnel barrier structure

The shot noise properties in a graphene-based multi-quantum well structure are investigated theoretically. It is found that when the number of the potential barriers (quantum wells) is big enough and the width of the barriers and the wells is shorter than the mean free path, another Dirac-like point at which the Fermi energy equals half of the barrier height appears. The transport is almost forbidden at this new Dirac-like point, the conductivity gets the minimum, and the Fano factor approaches 1/3. With the random potential barrier being taken into consideration, the conductance enhances clearly, meanwhile the Fano factor is suppressed much more.     

QCD Dirac spectrum and components of the gauge field

We analyze the relation between the Dirac spectrum and the gauge field in SU(3) lattice QCD. We focus on how a certain component of the gauge field is related to the Dirac spectrum. First, we consider momentum components of the gauge field. It turns out that the broad momentum region is relevant for the low-lying Dirac spectrum and topological charges. The connection with chiral random matrix theory is also discussed. Second, we consider an SU(2) subgroup component of the SU(3) gauge field. The SU(2) subgroup component behaves like the SU(2) gauge field in the low-lying Dirac spectrum.     

Resonances for Dirac operators on the half-line

We consider the 1D Dirac operator on the half-line with compactly supported potentials. We study resonances as the poles of scattering matrix or equivalently as the zeros of modified Fredholm determinant. We obtain the following properties of the resonances: (1) asymptotics of counting function, (2) estimates on the resonances and the forbidden domain.     

Real Paley-Wiener theorems for the Clifford Fourier transform

Associated with the Dirac operator and partial derivatives, this paper establishes some real Paley-Wiener type theorems to characterize the Clifford-valued functions whose Clifford Fourier transform (CFT) has compact support. Based on the Riemann-Lebesgue theorem for the CFT, the Boas theorem is provided to describe the CFT of Clifford-valued functions that vanish on a neighborhood of the origin.
