The contribution of spin-lattice coupling to the phonon self-energy is calculated for a diluted two-dimensional "soft" ferromagnet. The calculations are based on a bond percolation model. Numerical results are presented for the dampings of phonon excitations. At low temperature, the damping rate is much smaller than the frequency of excitations, leading to well-defined phonons. The overall features of the Г ( q ) curves possess similar characteristics: Г ( q ) has two maximum points at qa ≈ 0.5 and qa ≈ 1.7, the value of the latter is much larger than the former. The temperature-dependent phonon line widths arising from spinlattice coupling are also presented. We point out the sensitivity of the interaction on bond concentration of the network.  相似文献

Recent calculations for the turbulent flow of a suspension of solid spheres in a gas were carried out by solving a Navier Stokes equation for the fluid that recognizes the presence of particles as external point forces. These show that a strong damping of the fluid turbulence can be realized at remarkably small volume fractions. The suggestion is made that the presence of point forces, pseudo-point forces, or added point shear stresses could provide a general explanation for turbulence suppression caused by additives or by the acceleration of a turbulent boundary-layer.  相似文献

We study the mean field dilute model of a ferromagnet. We find and prove an expression for the free energy density at high temperature, and at temperature zero. We find the critical line of the model, separating the phase with zero magnetization from the phase with symmetry breaking. We also compute exactly the entropy at temperature zero, which is strictly positive. The physical behavior at temperature zero is very interesting and related to infinite dimensional percolation, and suggests possible behaviors at generic low temperatures. Lastly, we provide a complete solution for a (partially) annealed model. Our results hold both for the Poisson and the Bernoulli versions of the model.  相似文献

The characteristic function of a block spin in the face of an Ising ferromagnetic half-plane is obtained in closed form. The first normal stress differences N 1 of a highly dilute cationic surfactant solution are investigated in a cone-and-plate rheometer. In continuation of a previous paper (Nowak 1998), where the buildup of a shear induced structure in such a solution was attained after a reduced deformation, the N 1 turned out to be in proportion to the square of the shear rate γ˙ reduced by a critical value γ˙ c in a first range above γ˙ c . At higher shear rates the N 1 tend to lower values than predicted by this relation. Relaxation experiments were performed in the same geometry to determine the characteristic time scales of the shear induced state's decay. In the lower range above &γdot; c the stress decay is a monoexponential process, while a second time constant has to be introduced to describe the relaxation in that range, where the N 1 deviate from the parabolic dependence of the reduced shear rate. Investigation of fiber motion near solid boundaries in simple shear flow   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
In this paper, fiber motion near a planar wall was investigated using a planar shear flow apparatus. Fibers were placed (one at a time) perpendicular to the flow direction at various locations throughout the flow field. The location and orientation of each fiber versus time was measured, using an image processing system, until the fiber aligned with the flow direction. When the centroid of the fiber was located at distances greater than a fiber length from the wall, Jeffery's equations governing particle motion were verified. For distances less than a fiber length and greater than a fiber diameter from the wall, the fiber experienced an increased rate of rotation. In this regime, the motion of the fiber could be described by Jeffery's equations if an increased effective shear rate was used. The effective shear rate was found to increase logarithmically with decreasing separation distance. The wall effect was higher for longer aspect ratio fibers and was also a function of orientation; fibers oriented perpendicular to the wall rotated faster than those oriented parallel to the wall at the same separation distance. Once the fiber aligned with the flow direction, it ceased to rotate within the field of view. In this orientation, the wall had a stabilizing effect on the fiber. In efforts to relate the increase in shear rate to the aspect ratio of the fiber and the separation distance between the fiber and a solid wall, a translation model based on the work of De Mestre and Russel was explored. This model allows one to quantify the increase in shear rate experienced by the fiber due to the presence of a wall or obstruction in the flow field. However, the model has its limitations and care should be taken when applying this model outside its realm of validity. When compared to experimental data, the translation model provides a very good estimate of the increased shear rate experienced by the fiber when it is located less than 2/3 of a fiber length from a planar wall. The magnetic properties of Heisenberg ferromagnetic films in an external magnetic field are investigated by means of the variational cumulant expansion (VCE). The magnetization can be in principle calculated analytically as the function of the temperature and the number of atomic layers in the film to an arbitrary order of accuracy in the VCE. We calculate the spontaneous magnetization and coercivity to the third order for spin-1/2 Heisenberg films with simple cubic lattices by using a graphic technique.  相似文献

In cationic surfactant solutions a change of state occurs due to mechanical stresses. In the dilute regime of rodlike micelles the formation of a so-called Shear-Induced State (SIS) occurs above a critical shear rate. In this context dilute means that there is no sterical interaction between rodlike micelles, the solution is below the overlap concentration. Employing a mathematical model, it is shown that aggregation forces are weak compared to hydrodynamic forces. The mathematical formulation is based on a model of Israelachvili which describes the chemical potential of micelles. Hydrodynamic forces are calculated with a rigid-dumbbell model. SIS formation can be explained by the destruction of rodlike micelles.  相似文献

Expressions for the rheological properties of dilute polymer solutions at low and moderate deformation rates are established through the computation and analysis of exact Zimm's eigenvalues. It is shown that they can be expressed in terms of measurable parameters from intrinsic viscosity data. Under moderate deformation rates one needs to introduce a slippage between the solvent and the smoothed polymer to be able to describe shear-thinning behaviour.  相似文献
