The fundamental theoretical approach derived in A.V. Emelyanenko et al., Phys. Rev. E 74, 011705 (2006) is complemented by a consideration of the influence of the homogeneous electric field on Sm- C

* . The crucial role of the induced polarization is investigated for the first time. The evolution of any tilted smectic phase
in the electric field is found to meet the two thresholds. The first threshold corresponds to the unwinding process, and the
second one corresponds to the phase transition into the bi-domain structure of Sm-C
* , where the tilt plane has some contribution either along or against the electric field, while the average direction may
still be perpendicular to the electric field. The tilt plane in the monodomain (conventional) structure preceding the second
threshold is the same in every unwound phase, and is perpendicular to the electric field. No 3D distortion in Sm- C
A
* is predicted on application of the electric field. The entire electric-field-temperature phase diagrams including the possibility
of existence of the maximal number of tilted smectic phases are plotted and compared with the experimental ones. The numerical
calculations in the framework of this fundamental study are done with help of AFLC Phase Diagram Plotter software developed

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) filled completely with polycrystalline Cu nanowires were synthesized by laser vaporization of Cu and
graphite under high-pressure Ar gas atmosphere. Depending on the Ar gas pressure (0.1–0.9 MPa) and the Cu content (1–40 at.%)
in graphite targets for laser vaporization, various products with different morphologies were observed by scanning and transmission
electron microscopy. The ratios of the Cu-filled CNTs and carbon nanocapsules particularly increased as Ar gas pressure was
increased. The maximum ∼60% fraction of Cu-filled CNTs with outer diameter of 10–50 nm and length of 0.3–3 μm was achieved
at 0.9 MPa from graphite containing 20 at.% Cu. Most of the encapsulated Cu-nanowires were surrounded by single, double, or
triple graphitic layers. Although the yield of the Cu-filled CNTs was also dependent on the Cu content in the graphite targets,
no unfilled CNTs were produced even for low Cu content. The growth of Cu-filled CNTs is explained by the formation of molten
Cu–C composite particles with an unusually C-rich composition in a space confined by high-pressure Ar gas, followed by precipitating

We apply the Nyquist method to the Hamiltonian mean field (HMF) model in order to settle the linear dynamical stability of
a spatially homogeneous distribution function with respect to the
Vlasov equation. We consider the case of Maxwell (isothermal) and Tsallis (polytropic) distributions and show that the system
is stable above a critical kinetic temperature Tc and unstable below it. Then, we consider a symmetric double-humped distribution, made of the superposition of two decentered
Maxwellians, and show the existence of a re-entrant phase in the stability diagram. When we consider an asymmetric double-humped
distribution, the re-entrant phase disappears above a
critical value of the asymmetry factor Δ > 1.09. We also consider the HMF model with a repulsive interaction. In that case,
single-humped distributions are always stable. For asymmetric double-humped distributions, there is a re-entrant phase for
1 ≤ Δ < 25.6, a double re-entrant phase for 25.6 < Δ < 43.9 and no re-entrant phase for Δ > 43.9. Finally, we extend our results
to arbitrary potentials of interaction and mention the connexion between the HMF model, Coulombian plasmas and gravitational
systems. We discuss the relation between linear dynamical stability and formal nonlinear dynamical stability and show their
equivalence for spatially

We investigate the enhancement of Kerr nonlinearities in an asymmetric coupled double quantum-well (CQW) by analyzing the nonlinear optical response. With the consideration of real parameters in AlGaAs-based CQWs, we indicate the possibility to obtain the giant Kerr nonlinearities with the cancellation of linear absorption simultaneously. We also reveal both analytically and numerically that under appropriate conditions a probe field with very low intensity can evolve into a stable shape-preserving waveform that propagates with a slow group velocity. Recently, it has been observed that a liquid film spreading on a sample surface will significantly distort atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements. In order to elaborate on the effect, we establish an equation governing the deformation of liquid film under its interaction with the AFM tip and substrate. A key issue is the critical liquid bump height yoc, at which the liquid film jumps to contact the AFM tip. It is found that there are three distinct regimes in the variation of yoc with film thickness H, depending on Hamaker constants of tip, sample and liquid. Noticeably, there is a characteristic thickness H^* physically defining what a thin film is; namely, once the film thickness H is the same order as H^*, the effect of film thickness should be taken into account. The value of H^* is dependent on Hamaker constants and liquid surface tension as well as tip radius. 相似文献

The structure, transport properties and the magnetoresistance behavior in the temperature interval 77–400 K of the perovskite-like lanthanum manganites La0.6Pb0.4−xMgx+yMnO3 (x=0, 0.1, 0.2 and y=0, 0.2) were investigated. Polycrystalline bulk samples were prepared by sol–gel self-combustion and subsequent heat treatment at 1000 °C for different times, 40, 80, 160 and 320 min. All manganites exhibit a peak in the resistivity around 200–250 K, below the ferromagnetic ordering temperature (320–330 K). An isotropic and negative magnetoresistance has been observed in all compounds. Magnetoresistance MR exhibits a peak in the temperature range 130–150 K, below SC–metal transition temperature. Magnitude of MR at the peaks was nearly 27% in the magnetic field of 2 T. At room temperature, a magnetoresistance of 9.5% for La0.6Pb0.2Mg0.2MnO3 composition was obtained. Longer heat treatment time enhanced the magnetorezistive properties. 相似文献
