The influence of free quintessence on gravitational frequency shift and deflection of light with 4D momentum

On the basis of the 4D momentum, the influence of quintessence on the gravitational frequency shift and the deflection of light are examined in modified Schwarzschild space. We find that the frequency of a photon depends on the state parameter of the quintessence w _q: the frequency increases for −1<w _q<−1/3 and decreases for −1/3<w _q<0. Meanwhile, we adopt an integral power number a (a=3ω _q+2) to solve the orbital equation of photon. The photon’s potentials become higher with the decrease of ω _q. The behavior of the bending light sensitively depends on the state parameter ω _q. In particular, for the case of ω _q=−1, there is no influence on the deflection of light by quintessence. Furthermore, according to the H-masers of the GP-A redshift experiment and long-baseline interferometry, the constraints on the quintessence field in the solar system are presented here.     

Anti-gravitation

The possibility of a symmetry between gravitating and anti-gravitating particles is examined. The properties of the anti-gravitating fields are defined by their behavior under general diffeomorphisms. The equations of motion and the conserved canonical currents are derived, and it is shown that the kinetic energy remains positive whereas the new fields can make a negative contribution to the source term of Einstein's field equations. The interaction between the two types of fields is naturally suppressed by the Planck scale.     

Improving the transient response of a bolt-clamped Langevin transducer using a parallel resistor

This paper suggests a parallel resistor to reduce DC time constant and DC response time of the transient response, induced immediately after an AC voltage connected to a bolt-clamped Langevin transducer (BLT) is switched off. An equivalent circuit is first expressed. Then, an open-circuit transient response at the terminals induced by initial states is derived and measured, and thus parameters for losses of the BLT device are estimated by DC and AC time constants of the transient response. Moreover, a driving and measuring system is designed to determine transient response and steady-state responses of the BLT device, and a parallel resistor is connected to the BLT device to reduce the DC time constant. Experimental results indicate that the DC time constant greatly exceeds the AC time constant without the parallel resistor, and greatly decreases from 42 to 1 ms by a 100-kOmega parallel resistor.     

MΦller＇s Energy of Kerr-NUT Metric

The energy distribution of the Kerr-NUT （Newman-Unti-Tamburino） spacetime is calculated using MΦller＇s energy-momentum complex within the framework of the Riemannian geometry.     

Modified gravity with arbitrary coupling between matter and geometry

The field equations of a generalized f(R)$f(R)$ type gravity model, in which there is an arbitrary coupling between matter and geometry, are obtained. The equations of motion for test particles are derived from a variational principle in the particular case in which the Lagrange density of the matter is an arbitrary function of the energy-density of the matter only. Generally, the motion is non-geodesic, and takes place in the presence of an extra force orthogonal to the four-velocity. The Newtonian limit of the model is also considered. The perihelion precession of an elliptical planetary orbit in the presence of an extra force is obtained in a general form, and the magnitude of the extra gravitational effects is constrained in the case of a constant extra force by using Solar System observations.     

A Complete Foliation of Schwarzschild Spacetime by Free Falling Hypersurfaces

Free falling hypersurfaces in the Schwarzschild geometry have been studied to provide a complete foliation of spacetime. The hypersurfaces do not cross into the maximally extended spacetime and are well behaved everywhere except at the singularity r =0 the mean extrinsic curvature becomes infinity.     

Low Loss Plastic Terahertz Photonic Band-Gap Fibres

We report a numerical investigation on terahertz wave propagation in plastic photonic band-gap fibres which are characterized by a 19-unit-cell air core and hexagonal Mr holes with rounded corners in cladding. Using the finite element method, the leakage loss and absorption loss are calculated and the transmission properties are analysed. The lowest loss of 0.268 dB/m is obtained. Numerical results show that the fibres could liberate the constraints of background materials beyond the transparency region in terahertz wave band, and efficiently minimize the effect of absorption by background materials, which present great advantage of plastic photonic band-gap fibres in long distance terahertz delivery.
