Quantum coherence in quantum dot—Aharonov–Bohm ring hybrid systems

We investigate coherent transport through hybrid systems of quantum dots and Aharonov–Bohm (AB) rings. Strong coherence over the entire system leads to the Fano effect, which originates from the interference and the phase shift caused by the discrete states in the dots. The high controllability of the system parameters reveals that the Fano effect in mesoscopic transport can be a powerful tool for detecting the phase shift of electrons. We apply it to detect electrostatic phase modulation and the phase shift in a quantum wire with a side-coupled dot. Finally, we provide an experimental answer to the problem of “neighboring in-phase Coulomb peaks”.

Perfluoroalkylated diblock-alkyl methacrylate monomers for biomedical applications: Wettability of their copolymers with HEMA and DEGMA

The intermediate perfluoroalkylated diblock hydrophobic-hydrophilic secondary alcohols (9-11), which were prepared by the reaction of monomethyl ethers of oligomeric ethyleneglycols with 2-[(perfluoroalkyl)methyl]oxiranes (7 and 8), resulted in the formation of the title monomers (12-14) by the acylation with methacryloyl chloride. Copolymers of 12-14 with HEMA and DEGMA prepared under radical conditions display enhanced swelling properties.     

Representation Rings of Lie Superalgebras

Given a Lie superalgebra , we introduce several variants of the representation ring, built as subrings and quotients of the ring of virtual -supermodules, up to (even) isomorphisms. In particular, we consider the ideal of virtual -supermodules isomorphic to their own parity reversals, as well as an equivariant K-theoretic super representation ring on which the parity reversal operator takes the class of a virtual -supermodule to its negative. We also construct representation groups built from ungraded -modules, as well as degree-shifted representation groups using Clifford modules. The full super representation ring , including all degree shifts, is then a -graded ring in the complex case and a -graded ring in the real case. Our primary result is a six-term periodic exact sequence relating the rings , and . We first establish a version of it working over an arbitrary (not necessarily algebraically closed) field of characteristic 0. In the complex case, this six-term periodic long exact sequence splits into two three-term sequences, which gives us additional insight into the structure of the complex super representation ring . In the real case, we obtain the expected 24-term version, as well as a surprising six-term version, of this periodic exact sequence. (Received: October 2004)
