Suppose that is a vector bundle with a linear periodic map of period ; the map is assumed free on the outside of the -section. A polynomial , called a mod Chern polynomial of , is defined. It is analogous to the Stiefel-Whitney polynomial defined by Dold for real vector bundles with the antipodal involution. The mod Chern polynomial can be used to measure the size of the periodic coincidence set for fibre preserving maps of the unit sphere bundle of into another vector bundle.

I will discuss positive and negative results on the Hodge conjecture. The negative aspects come on one side from the study of the Hodge conjecture for integral Hodge classes, and on the other side from the study of possible extensions of the conjecture to the general K?hler setting. The positive aspects come from algebraic geometry. They concern the structure of the so-called locus of Hodge classes, and of the Hodge loci. This article is based on the 1st Takagi Lectures that the author delivered at Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Kyoto University on November 25 and 26, 2006.  相似文献

In a quantum Hall effect, flat Landau levels may be broadened by disorder. However, it has been found that in the thermodynamic limit, all extended (or current carrying) states shrink to one single energy value within each Landau level. On the other hand, a quantum anomalous Hall effect consists of dispersive bands with finite widths. We numerically investigate the picture of current carrying states in this case. With size scaling, the spectrum width of these states in each bulk band still shrinks to a single energy value in the thermodynamic limit, in a power law way. The magnitude of the scaling exponent at the intermediate disorder is close to that in the quantum Hall effects. The number of current carrying states obeys similar scaling rules, so that the density of states of current carrying states is finite. Other states in the bulk band are localized and may contribute to the formation of a topological Anderson insulator.  相似文献

W. Fulton and R. MacPherson posed the problem of unique existence of a bivariant Chern class—a Grothendieck transformation from the bivariant theory F of constructible functions to the bivariant homology theory H. J.-P. Brasselet proved the existence of a bivariant Chern class in the category of embeddable analytic varieties with cellular morphisms. In general however, the problem of uniqueness is still unresolved. In this paper we show that for morphisms having nonsingular target varieties there exists another bivariant theory of constructible functions and a unique bivariant Chern class γ: . We introduce the totally absolute lightcone curvature for a spacelike submanifold with general codimension and investigate global properties of this curvature. By means of the mean-field method and the random phase approximation, we study the magnetic properties of the correlated Chern insulator on a checkerboard lattice with topological flat band. The antiferromagnetic (AF) order is found to be more stable than the ferromagnetic (FM) order at half filling. While at quarter filling, the system becomes a FM-Chern insulator induced by the FM order. The phase diagram is more complex for other fillings. FM order is more stable than AF order for small doping due to the flatness of band structure, while FM and AF orders compete at large doping.  相似文献
