From an interplay between scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, a comprehensive picture is obtained for oxygen adsorption on the Pt(110)-(1×2) surface, from single isolated oxygen atoms chemisorbed in FCC sites along the platinum ridges to the formation of a new high-coverage oxide-like structure with a local coverage of two oxygen atoms per platinum surface atom. We find that the repulsive O–O interactions for the O/Pt(110) system are compensated by an effective O–O attractive interaction originating from a strong coupling between oxygen adsorption and platinum lattice distortions.  相似文献

本文利用X射线谱研究了吡嗪(C4H4N2)分子共价吸附于硅(100)面的几种吸附构型的几何结构和电子结构. 利用密度泛函理论结合团簇模型,对预测的吸附结构的碳K壳层(1s)X射线光电子能谱(XPS)和近边X射线吸收精细结构(NEXAFS)谱进行了模拟. 计算结果阐明了XPS和NEXAFS谱与不同吸附构型的对应关系. 与XPS谱相比,NEXAFS谱对所研究的吡嗪/硅(100)体系的结构有明显的依赖性,可以很好地用于结构鉴定. 根据碳原子的分类,研究了在NEXAFS光谱中不同化学环境下碳原子的光谱成分.  相似文献

The adsorption and reaction of methanol and ethanol on a preoxidised Cu(100) surface was studied with Reflection-Absorption Infra-Red Spectroscopy (RAIRS). Both alcohols reacted with the modified surface well below room temperature, undergoing OH bond scission to form alkoxide species. The alkoxides were stable up to 340–360 K at which stage they desorbed as aldehydes. Vibrational assignments of the observed modes were made with reference to the RAIRS spectra of the alcohols and their deuterium substituted analogues on Cu(100) together with literature values for the gaseous, liquid and solid alcohols. Application of the metal surface selection rule to the alkoxide spectra indicate that in both cases the C---O bond lies perpendicular to the surface. The methoxy species is therefore assigned to an upright C3v configuration. Oxygen precoverage is found to govern the amount of alkoxide formation which passes through a maximum at a precoverage of about 150 L.  相似文献

Recent studies dealing with the structural, electronic, chemical and catalytic properties of well-defined bimetallic surfaces are reviewed. LEED and STM show that two metals interacting on a surface can form compounds with structures not seen in bulk alloys. Many novel phenomena related to the kinetics of growth of metals on metals have been discovered. The knowledge gathered in this area provides a solid basis for the synthesis of new materials with applications in areas of catalysis, electro-chemistry and microelectronics. In many cases, the formation of a surface bimetallic bond induces large changes in the band structure of the metals. For surfaces that contain transition or s,p metals, the strongest metal-metal interactions occur in systems that combine a metal with a valence band almost fully occupied and a metal in which the valence band is almost empty. A very good correlation is found between the electronic perturbations in a bimetallic system and its cohesive energy. Bimetallic bonds that display a large stability usually involve a significant redistribution of charge around the metal centers. The electronic perturbations affect the reactivity of the bonded metals toward small molecules (CO, NO, H2, O2, S2, C2H4, CH3OH, etc.). For supported monolayers of Ni, Pd, Pt and Cu a correlation is observed between the shifts in surface core-level binding energies and changes in the desorption temperature of CO from the metal adlayers. Examples are provided which demonstrate the utility of single-crystal studies for understanding the role of “ensemble” and “ligand” effects in bimetallic catalysts.  相似文献

The interaction of carbon with the Ni(110) surface has been investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Dissociation of ethylene at elevated temperatures resulted in the formation of two carbidic carbon structures, (4 × 3) and (4 × 5), both of which are formed by a significant reconstruction of the surface involving a long-range mass transport of 0.5 ML Ni. The density of C in the reconstructed phases was estimated based on Auger electron spectroscopy (AES). Atomic models, which are consistent with all existing experimental observations for carbidic carbon on Ni(110), are proposed for the (4 × 3) and (4 × 5) phases.  相似文献

Reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS) has been used to characterise the interaction of standard and fully deuterated glycine with Cu(1 0 0) and Cu(1 1 1). RAIRS shows clearly that the surface interaction leads to formation of the adsorbed deprotonated glycinate (NH2CH2COO-) species, with some evidence for changes in orientation with coverage previously seen on Cu(1 1 0). Qualitative low energy electron diffraction observations were also conducted to characterise the long-range ordering, although effects of electron-beam-induced radiation damage limited the information obtained. Nevertheless, the results do suggest some subtle isotopic-mass-related structural variations. The results are discussed in the context of previously published scanning tunnelling microscopy and photoelectron diffraction measurements.  相似文献

We have studied the reaction of ultrathin In overlayers on W(1 1 0) with molecular oxygen at 300 K. At a coverage of 0.25 monolayers (ML) oxygen first chemisorbs dissociatively at free tungsten sites and oxidation of In occurs with some delay. At an In coverage of 1.2 ML complete oxidation of the closed overlayer is observed. Layers of 3 ML thickness first show rapid transformation from In to an In2O3-like species until an oxide monolayer is formed. Further oxidation occurs at much reduced rate. No oxygen-induced restructuring is observed for In at 300 K, in contrast to the response of Ag monolayers deposited on W(1 1 0).  相似文献

Medium energy ion scattering (MEIS), using 100 keV H+ incident ions, has been used to investigate the structure of the Ag(1 1 1)(√7 × √7)R19° -CH3S surface phase. The results provide the first direct evidence that this structure does involve substantial reconstruction of the Ag surface layer. The measured absolute scattered ion yields and blocking curves are in generally good agreement with a specific structural model of the surface based on a reconstructed layer containing 3/7 ML Ag atoms, previously suggested on the basis of scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) and normal incidence X-ray standing wave (NIXSW) studies. However, the MEIS data indicate that any rumpling of the thiolate layer, is small, and probably ?0.2 Å. This value is smaller than the amplitude suggested in the STM and NIXSW studies, but could be entirely consistent with the earlier experimental data.  相似文献
