LOW POWER MEASUREMENTS ON THE NEW RF OUTPUT SYSTEM OF A 170 GHZ, 2 MW COAXIAL CAVITY GYROTRON

The design of the quasi optical (q. o.) RF output system for the first industrial prototype of the European 170 GHz, 2 MW, CW coaxial cavity gyrotron for electron cyclotron heating and current drive in ITER has been verified at a low power level. Results of measurements with a high quality TE_34,19-mode generator are in good agreement with the design calculations. This strengthens the confidence both to the employed design codes and to the manufacturing quality of the launcher and mirrors.     

Optical Mobius Cubes: Integrated Packaging Configurations

Two integrated packaging configurations of optical Mobius cubes are demonstrated. One is based on space division multiplex technique, the other is based on wavelength djvision multiplex technique. The physical constraints from the effect of diffraction on the optical Mdbius cubes are also discussed which defines the upper bound of the space-bandwidth product.

A note on maximally repeated sub-patterns of a point set

We answer a question raised by Brass on the number of maximally repeated sub-patterns in a set of n points in R^d. We show that this number, which was conjectured to be polynomial, is in fact Θ(2^n/2) in the worst case, regardless of the dimension d.     

Evidence for multiple band terminations in Pd

The level structure of ¹⁰²Pd has been investigated using data collected with the Eurogam 2 array. Several cascades of γ-rays have been established up to high spins. Termination of rotational bands has been observed at I^π = 28⁻ and 32⁺, and tentatively at I^π = 38⁺ and 42⁺. The nucleus ¹⁰²Pd is the first case where rotational bands built on valence space configurations are followed from spin close to zero up to termination and, at higher spins, a smooth rotational band which appears to terminate is built on core excited configurations.     

Numerical modelling of cavities on axisymmetric bodies at zero and non-zero angle of attack

The flow about submerged, fully cavitating axisymmetric bodies at both zero and non-zero angle of attack is considered in this paper. A cavity closure model that relates the point of detachment, the angle that the separating streamline makes with the body and the cavity length is described. The direct boundary element method is used to solve the potential flow problem and to determine the cavity shape. A momentum integral boundary layer solver is included in the formulation so that shear stresses can be incorporated into the drag calculations. The numerical predictions based on the proposed closure model are compared with water tunnel measurements and photographs.     

Macrotricyclic host molecules with basket shaped cavities

The syntheses of several macrotricyclic hexalactams (1–3) and of a corresponding hexalactone (4) are described in detail for the first time. The molecules have a basket shaped skeleton and contain a non-collapsible cavity, the size and shape of which is varied by use of spacer groups. Compounds1–3 selectively form crystalline adducts with ethanol as guest; the macrotricyclic hexaester4 does not. Evidence for an interaction of1 with ethanol was obtained by exchange experiments with perdeuteroethanol. Complexation experiments in solution did not show significant host/guest interactions with the guest chosen.     

Doppler-limited CW infrared cavity ringdown spectroscopy of the ν1+ν3 OH + CH stretch combination band of jet-cooled methanol

A high resolution cavity ringdown spectrometer (CRDS) has been constructed using a 1.5 μm continuous-wave external-cavity tunable diode laser, a mode-matched near-confocal ringdown cavity, and 2 cm pulsed slit jet. Without signal averaging, the RMS noise in the absorption signal is 1.7 × 10⁻⁹ cm⁻¹. The rotationally resolved overtone spectrum of the OH(ν₁) + CH(ν₃) stretch combination band of methanol between 6510 and 6550 cm⁻¹ has been observed for J^′=0-8 and K^′=0-3 at sub-Doppler resolution. In total, 418 lines are assigned and global fits yield molecular torsion-rotation parameters for the upper state. Four K^′-localized perturbations are analyzed and the pattern of residuals is discussed.     

Preparation of the W state via cavity QED

A scheme for preparation of the tripartite W state via cavity quantum electrodynamics is presented in this paper. And the scheme can be generalized to prepare the n-atom W states. The second part of this paper shows how to prepare n-cavity W states. All cavities involved are initially in the vacuum states, thus the requirement on the quality factor of the cavities is greatly loosened.
