Poincaré’s inequalities and Talagrand’s concentration phenomenon for the exponential distribution

Summary. We present a simple proof, based on modified logarithmic Sobolev inequalities, of Talagrand’s concentration inequality for the exponential distribution. We actually observe that every measure satisfying a Poincaré inequality shares the same concentration phenomenon. We also discuss exponential integrability under Poincaré inequalities and its consequence to sharp diameter upper bounds on spectral gaps. We consider the Krein systems. For the set of Stummel class coefficients, we establish the criterion in terms of these coefficients for the system to satisfy the Szegö-type estimate on the spectral measure.     

Spectral Theory for Slowly Oscillating Potentials II. Schrödinger Operators

This paper continues the investigation about the singularity theory in dual rich quasi–Banach spaces given in T. Runst [Ru 2]. The abstract results are applied to the study of the solution structure of semilinear elliptic boundary value problems in spaces of Besov – Triebel – Lizorkin type.

Exact boundary observability for 1‐D quasilinear wave equations

By means of a direct and constructive method based on the theory of semi‐global C² solution, the local exact boundary observability and an implicit duality between the exact boundary controllability and the exact boundary observability are shown for 1‐D quasilinear wave equations with various boundary conditions. Efficient multi and single line atomic fluorine lasers

Intense multi- and single-line laser operation is reported from semiconductively preionised atomic fluorine lasers employing an optimised capacitor transfer excitation circuitry. The performance and spectral characteristics of these lasers are discussed and compared to the characteristics of previously described atomic fluorine lasers. The efficiency of one of these lasers described, at optimum conditions, is reaching a value as high as 0.14%. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest efficiency reported up date, for an atomic fluorine laser.
