Synthesis of functional polymers—Vinylidene fluoride based fluorinated copolymers and terpolymers bearing bromoaromatic side‐group

The radical co‐ and terpolymerization of 4‐[(α,β,β‐trifluorovinyl)oxy]bromo benzene (TFVOBB) with 1,1‐difluoroethylene (or vinylidene fluoride, VDF, or VF₂), hexafluoropropene (HFP), perfluoromethyl vinyl ether (PMVE), and chlorotrifluroroethylene (CTFE) is presented. Although TFVOBB could be thermocyclodimerized, it could not homopolymerize under radical initiation. TFVOBB could be copolymerized in solution under a radical initiator with VDF or CTFE comonomers, while its copolymerization with HFP or PMVE were unsuccessful. The terpolymerization of TFVOBB with VDF and HFP, or VDF and PMVE, or VDF and CTFE also led to original fluorinated terpolymers bearing bromoaromatic side‐groups. The conditions of co‐ and terpolymerization were optimized in terms of the nature of the radical initiators, and of the nature of solvents (fluorinated or nonhalogenated). Various monomer concentrations in the co‐ and terpolymers were assessed by ¹⁹F and ¹H‐NMR spectroscopy. The thermal and physico chemical properties were also studied. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A four-level “Ξ-system”: Exact solvability and effective evolution operators via multiple scales

Properties of a four-level atomic system interacting with one and two modes of the electromagneticfield in a “Ξ”-configuration are investigated. By linearization of the Hamiltonians we show that the corresponding mathematical models are exactly solvable. To obtain simpler effective Hamiltonians the perturbative method of multiple scales is applied. The lowest-order corrections to the resulting effective evolution operators are also calculated.     

Spectroscopic studies of new model compounds for poly[N,N′-bis(phenoxyphenyl)pyromellitimide]

New model compounds for poly[N,N′-bis(phenoxyphenyl)pyromellitimide] have been synthesized in order to investigate the formation of imine bonds which are proposed to form during the curing process and lead to crosslinking in the bulk polymer. Raman studies show that terminal amines can react with imide carbonyls during curing to form C?N bonds. The Raman band due to C?N appears at 1656 cm^?1 and the band due to C?O closest to the imine bond is observed at 1742 cm^?1. These results are in agreement with previously published results on vapor deposited polyimide films.     

Morphological and elemental characterisation with the high-energy ion-nanoprobe LIPSION

This contribution deals with the morphological and elemental characterisation with high-energy (MeV) focused ion beams (in particular protons) with special emphasis on high spatial resolution in the sub-micrometer regime and very low minimum detection limits (sub-ppm) in trace element analysis. The most important methods like particle induced X-ray emission (PIXE), Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS), as well as scanning transmission ion microscopy (STIM) and STIM-tomography will be illustrated by examples from material and life sciences.     

On interrelation between the internal pressure and the cohesion energy density

The question about the definition of the “internal pressure” concept is being discussed. It is shown that the previously found differential relation between the cohesion energy density and the internal pressure is one of the examples of an absolutely general interrelation between definitely connected differential functions. It is ascertained that the ratio (the internal pressure divided by the cohesion energy density) is a structuresensitive parameter inherent to the calorific (thermal) equation of a liquid state.     

Structural and spectroscopic analysis of hot filament decomposed ethylene deposited at low temperature on silicon surface

The deposition of decomposed ethylene on silicon wafer at lower temperature using hot filament chemical vapor deposition (HFCVD) method was applied to compose thin film of carbon and its compounds with silicon and hydrocarbon structures. The films were analyzed using Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy with elemental microanalysis by energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer. The structure and morphology of the early stage of the film deposition was analyzed. The obtaining of SiC as well as diamond-like structure with this method and catalytic influence of chemical admixtures on the film structure and properties are discussed.

Spectroscopic study on the complex formation of chromogenic bridged calixarenes with aliphatic amines

The complex formation between chromogenic capped calix 4 arene derivatives comprising indophenol indicator group(s), and aliphatic amines has been studied by UV/Vis spectroscopy. The equilibrium constants have been determined in ethanol, and—for one ligand—also in dimethylsulfoxide. The results have been interpreted in terms of various types of host–guest interactions and of steric effects.     

Diethoxyphosphorylimine of methyl trifluoropyruvate in cyclocondensation with 1,3-C,N-and-N,N-binucleophiles

Reaction of diethoxyphosphorylimine of methyl trifluoropyruvate with 1,3-C,N-and-N,N-binucleophiles led to a variety of N-phosphorylated fluorine-containing heterocycles, including the fused ones.
