Synthesis and reactivity of thieno[2,3-<Emphasis Type="Italic">b</Emphasis>]pyridine-2,3-diamines

It has been established that the interaction of N¹-(2-hydroxyphenylmethylthieno[2,3-b]pyrid-3-yl)arylamides with hydrazine hydrate leads to thieno[2,3-b]pyridine-2,3-diamines. It was shown that the reaction of the latter with acetylacetone and acetoacetic ester occurs regioselectively at the amino group in position 3 of the thiophene ring. __________ Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 9, pp. 1400–1408, September, 2007.     

Functionalized naphthol[2,3-h] quinoline-7,12-diones

The addition of secondary and primary amines to ethyl (1-amino-9,10-anthraquinon-2-yl)propynoate affords an easily separable mixture of the corresponding ethyl 3-dialkylaminoor 3-alkylamino-3-(1-amino-9,10-anthraquinon-2-yl)acrylate and 3-dialkylamino- or 3-alkylaminonaphthol[2,3-h]quinoline-2(1H), 7,12-trione (in ∼4: 1 ratio). Intramolecular cyclization of the resulting substituted ethyl acrylates results in the formation of 4-dialkylaminoor 4-alkylamino-2-chlorinated pyridine rings. Subsequent nucleophilic substitution of the chlorine atom gives 2-functionalized 4-dialkylamino- or 4-alkylaminonaphtho[2,3-h]quinoline-7,12-diones. Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. Summary 4-Chloro-3-aryl-coumarins and quinolones2 a–e undergo thermolytic ring closure by reaction with sodium azide in refluxing dimethyl formamide to yield indolo[3,2-c]coumarins and indolo[3,2-c]quinolin-6(5H)-ones6 a–e. In the case of the coumarin2 a the azido coumarin5 can be isolated. The mono- and diazacoumestrol-dimethylethers6 a–c are converted into the coumestrol analogues7 a–c and their diacetyl derivatives8 a–c.

Zusammenfassung 4-Chlor-3-arylcumarine und-chinolone2 a–e reagieren thermolytisch mit Natriumazid in siedendem Dimethylfomamid unter Ringschluß zu Indolo[3,2-c]cumarinen und Indolo[3,2-c]chinolin-6(5H)-onen6 a–e. Nur aus dem Cumarinderivat2 a kann das zwischenzeitlich gebildete Azidocumarin5 isoliert werden. Die so erhaltenen Mono- und Diazacumöstroldimethylether6 a–c werden in die entsprechenden Cumöstrole7 a–c und ihre Diacetylderivate8 a–c umgewandelt.

     

Observations on the swelling characteristics of the zwitterionic hydrogel of poly(1-3-sulfopropyl)-2-vinyl-pyridinium-betaine hydrogel

Samples of poly[1-(3-sulfopropyl)-2-vinyl-pyridinium-betaine] (PSPV) have been synthesized to high conversion by free radical polymerization in aqueous solution of the zwitterionic monomer SPV with several concentrations of the crosslinker N,N′-methylene-bis-acrylamide (MBA). The densities of the resultant xerogels increased regularly with the content of MBA. Hydrogels obtained by swelling them in water and aqueous KSCN solution were examined by gravimetric and dimensional analysis. The water contents increased with decreasing content of MBA, the value of 92.7 wt% at the lowest MBA content being higher than that for other zwitterionic hydrogels. Enhanced swelling occurred in 1 M aq. KSCN at each MBA content, the total swelling being 98.1 wt% at the lowest crosslinker content. Swelling increased with increasing temperature. An approximate procedure to formulating swelling equilibrium in term of the volume fraction of water in hydrogel, in conjunction with the van’t Hoff equation, yields a small positive value for the enthalpy of swelling. This is compared with values derived similarly for other hydrogels.     

A Study of N-Butyl-(all-trans-retinylidene)amine and Its Protonated Species by 1H- and 13C-NMR. Spectroscopy

The Schiff base of all-trans-retinal was investigated in organic solution by ¹H- and ¹³C-NMR. at high field. Complete assignment of the ¹H-NMR. peaks of N-butyl-(all-trans-retinylidene)amine ( 2 ) and the N-butyl-(all-trans-retinylidene)-ammonium ion ( 3 ) was achieved by INDOR (internuclear double resonance). The vicinal proton coupling constants of the polyene chain show that the π-bond orders remain unchanged in N-butyl-(all-trans-retinylidene)amine relative to all-trans-retinal ( 1 ), but change towards larger π-delocalization in the N-butyl-(all-trans-retinylidene)ammonium ion. At ?-61° only one isomer of N-butyl-(all-trans-retinylidene)ammonium was observed. This was shown to be trans at the imine linkage and independent of the solvent. The trifluoroacetic acid counter-ion can approach the positive charge of the N-atom in the weakly polar solvent dichloromethane but not in the leveling solvent methanol. In dichloromethane the nature of the 1:1 complex is a H-bonded (O^?…H-N⁺) ion-pair whose rate of breaking and forming is rapid at RT. Strong stabilization of the ion-pair resulted from homo-conjugation with a second molecule of trifluoroacetic acid. Excess of acid efficiently diminished the isomerization rate at the C,N-bond.     

Steroid polyols from the Far-Eastern starfish Henricia sanguinolenta

A new polyhydroxylated steroid (20R,24S)-5-cholestane-3,6,15,24-tetraol and a known glycoside, laeviuscoloside G, was isolated from the Far-Eastern starfish Henricia sanguinolenta, collected in the sea of Okhotsk, and characterized.     

Complex formation of certain rare earth metals with 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol (PAN) in alcohol-water solutions

The formation ofPAN complexes in the systems:Ln(III)—PAN—alcohol—water [whereLn(III) = Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, alcohol - ethanol andLn(III) = Eu, alcohol =n-propanol, isopropanol] was investigated by a spectrophotometric method. Equilibrium constants for the reactionLn ³⁺+HLLnL ²⁺+H⁺ (HL =PAN) and stability constants of complexesLnL ²⁺ are reported.

Komplexbildung einiger Seltenerdmetalle mit 1-(2-Pyridylazo)-2-naphthol (PAN) in alkoholisch-wäßrigen Lösungen

Zusammenfassung Die Bildung der Komplexe vonPAN in den SystemenLn(III)—PAN—Alkohol—Wasser [Ln(III) = Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Alkohol = Ethanol undLn(III) = Eu, Alkohol =n-Propanol, Isopropanol] wurde mit einer spektrophotometrischen Methode untersucht. Die Gleichgewichtskonstanten der ReaktionenLn ³⁺+HLLnL ²⁺+H⁺ (HL =PAN) und die Stabilitätskonstanten der KomplexeLnL ²⁺ wurden berechnet.

     

Electron transfer from dibenzo[b,f]-1-azapentalene dianion: Attempted synthesis of dibenzo[b,f]-1-azapentalene

When dibenzo[b,f]-1-azapentalene dianion (3) was allowed to react with either iron (III) chloride or ethylene bromide, a one-electron transfer from3 took place readily to give the radical anion11. Further electron transfer from11 did not occur presumably due to the antiaromatic character of dibenzo[b,f]-1-azapentalene (1) that would have resulted. The radical anion11 underwent further transformation by hydrogen abstraction from the solvent to give 5,10-dihydroindeno[1,2-b]indole (2) and by dimerization to themeso and (R,S) isomers of 5,5,10,10-tetrahydro-10,10-biindeno[1,2-b]indole (4 a and4 b) respectively.

Elektronentransfer von Dibenzo[b,f]-1-azapentalen-Dianion: Ein Versuch zur Synthese von Dibenzo[b,f]-1-azapentalen

Zusammenfassung Die Reaktion von Dibenzo[b,f]-1-azapentalen-Dianion (3) mit Eisen (III) oder Ethylenbromid ergab einen Ein-Elektronentransfer zum Radikalanion11. Ein weiterer Elektronentransfer fand nicht statt, vermutlich wegen des antiaromatischen Charakters von Dibenzo[b,f]-1-azapentalen (1), das dabei entstehen müßte. Das Radikalanion11 ergab unter Wasserstoffentzug aus dem Lösungsmittel 5,10-Dihydroindeno[1,2-b]indol (2), das weiter zummeso- bzw. (R,S)-5,5,10,10-tetrahydro-10,10-biindeno[1,2-b]indol (4 a bzw.4 b) dimerisierte.

     

About a minimax theorem of Matthies,Strang and Christiansen

We give a new minisup theorem for noncompact strategy sets. Our result is of the type of the Matthies-Strang-Christiansen minimax theorem where the hyperplane should be replaced by any closed convex set. As an application, we derive a slight generalization of the Matthies-Strang-Christiansen minimax theorem.     

Synthesis of bis(alk-3-en-1-ynyl)benzene with either E- or Z-configuration via a one-pot three-component coupling reaction and its optical properties

A convenient, efficient and stereoselective synthesis of a range of bis(alk-3-en-1-ynyl)benzenes with E- and Z-configuration is described. The protocol involves Cu-mediated cross-coupling reaction of (E)- and (Z)-alk-1-enyldisiamylboranes with (trimethylsilyl)ethynyl bromide and Pd/Cu-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction with diiodobenzene. The sequential cross-coupling reaction proceeds readily under extremely mild conditions in a one-pot manner to afford bis(alk-3-en-1-ynyl)benzenes in good to excellent yields. The optical properties of the products are also described.
