We have successfully extended our implicit hybrid finite element/volume (FE/FV) solver to flows involving two immiscible fluids. The solver is based on the segregated pressure correction or projection method on staggered unstructured hybrid meshes. An intermediate velocity field is first obtained by solving the momentum equations with the matrix‐free implicit cell‐centered FV method. The pressure Poisson equation is solved by the node‐based Galerkin FE method for an auxiliary variable. The auxiliary variable is used to update the velocity field and the pressure field. The pressure field is carefully updated by taking into account the velocity divergence field. This updating strategy can be rigorously proven to be able to eliminate the unphysical pressure boundary layer and is crucial for the correct temporal convergence rate. Our current staggered‐mesh scheme is distinct from other conventional ones in that we store the velocity components at cell centers and the auxiliary variable at vertices. The fluid interface is captured by solving an advection equation for the volume fraction of one of the fluids. The same matrix‐free FV method, as the one used for momentum equations, is used to solve the advection equation. We will focus on the interface sharpening strategy to minimize the smearing of the interface over time. We have developed and implemented a global mass conservation algorithm that enforces the conservation of the mass for each fluid. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The present paper investigates the multigrid (MG) acceleration of compressible Reynolds‐averaged Navier–Stokes computations using Reynolds‐stress model 7‐equation turbulence closures, as well as lower‐level 2‐equation models. The basic single‐grid SG algorithm combines upwind‐biased discretization with a subiterative local‐dual‐time‐stepping time‐integration procedure. MG acceleration, using characteristic MG restriction and prolongation operators, is applied on meanflow variables only (MF–MG), turbulence variables being simply injected onto coarser grids. A previously developed non‐time‐consistent (for steady flows) full‐approximation‐multigrid (s–MG) is assessed for 3‐D anisotropy‐driven and/or separated flows, which are dominated by the convergence of turbulence variables. Even for these difficult test cases CPU‐speed‐ups rCPUSUP∈[3, 5] are obtained. Alternative, potentially time‐consistent approaches (unsteady u–MG), where MG acceleration is applied at each subiteration, are also examined, using different subiterative strategies, MG cycles, and turbulence models. For 2‐D shock wave/turbulent boundary layer interaction, the fastest s–MG approach, with a V(2, 0) sawtooth cycle, systematically yields CPU‐speed‐ups of 5±½, quasi‐independent of the particular turbulence closure used. Summary. We derive a set of asymptotically exact coupled amplitude-streaming flow ({CASF}) equations governing the evolution of weakly nonlinear nearly inviscid multimode Faraday waves and the associated streaming flow in finite geometries. The streaming flow is found to play a particularly important role near mode interactions. Such interactions come about either through a suitable choice of parameters or through breaking of degeneracy among modes related by symmetry. An example of the first case is provided by the interaction of two nonaxisymmetric modes in a circular container with different azimuthal wavenumbers. The second case arises when the shape of the container is changed from square to slightly rectangular, or from circular to slightly noncircular but with a plane of symmetry. The generation of streaming flow in each of these cases is discussed in detail and the properties of the resulting CASF equations are described. A preliminary analysis suggests that these equations can resolve discrepancies between existing theory and experimental results in the first two of the above cases.  相似文献

This paper uses the element‐free Galerkin (EFG) method to simulate 2D, viscous, incompressible flows. The control equations are discretized with the standard Galerkin method in space and a fractional step finite element scheme in time. Regular background cells are used for the quadrature. Several classical fluid mechanics problems were analyzed including flow in a pipe, flow past a step and flow in a driven cavity. The flow field computed with the EFG method compared well with those calculated using the finite element method (FEM) and finite difference method. The simulations show that although EFG is more expensive computationally than FEM, it is capable of dealing with cases where the nodes are poorly distributed or even overlap with each other; hence, it may be used to resolve remeshing problems in direct numerical simulations. Flows around a cylinder for different Reynolds numbers are also simulated to study the flow patterns for various conditions and the drag and lift forces exerted by the fluid on the cylinder. These forces are calculated by integrating the pressure and shear forces over the cylinder surface. The results show how the drag and lift forces oscillate for high Reynolds numbers. The aim of this paper is to present a kinetic formulation of a model for the coupling of transient free surface and pressurised flows. Firstly, we revisit the system of Saint-Venant equations for free surface flow: we state some properties of Saint-Venant equations, we propose a kinetic formulation and we verify that this kinetic formulation leads to a Gibbs equilibrium that minimises (in some general case) an energy and preserves the still water steady state. Secondly, we propose a model for pressurised flows in a Saint-Venant-like conservative formulation. We then propose a kinetic formulation and we verify that this kinetic formulation leads to a Gibbs equilibrium that minimises in any case an energy and preserves the still water steady state. Finally, we propose a dual model that couples these two types of flow.  相似文献

For linear flows on vector bundles we define a uniform exponential spectrum. For a compact invariant set for the projected flow we obtain this spectrum by taking all accumulation points for the time tending to infinity of the union over the finite time exponential growth rates for all initial values in this set. Using direct arguments we show that for a connected compact invariant set this spectrum is a closed interval whose boundary points are Lyapunov exponents. For a compact invariant set on which the flow is chain transitive we show that this spectrum coincides with the Morse spectrum. In particular, this approach admits a straightforward analytic proof for the regularity and continuity properties of the Morse spectrum without using cohomology or ergodicity results.  相似文献

This paper considers the streamline‐upwind Petrov–Galerkin (SUPG) method applied to the unsteady compressible Navier–Stokes equations in conservation‐variable form. The spatial discretization, including a modified approach for interpolating the inviscid flux terms in the SUPG finite element formulation, and the second‐order accurate time discretization are presented. The numerical method is discussed in detail. The performance of the algorithm is then investigated by considering inviscid flow past a circular cylinder. Validation of the finite element formulation via comparisons with experimental data for high‐Mach number perfect gas laminar flows is presented, with a specific focus on comparisons with experimentally measured skin friction and convective heat transfer on a 15° compression ramp. 针对纺织厂空调系统的核心-喷水室,研究喷水室内处理空气的冷却减湿和等焓加湿两个典型热湿交换过程。提出Re准数对传热传质有显著作用,而Re数的大小取决于流体速度。通过实验研究当空气流速从3m/s提高到5m/s时对喷水室热湿交换性能的影响,从而确定空气流动速度因素对两个热湿交换效率的影响趋势。根据拟合的数学曲线,总结出当空气的流动速度提高后,热湿交换效率相应提高。从而推动高速喷水室在实际工程中的应用。  相似文献

Fractional aircraft ownership programs, where individuals or corporations own a fraction of an aircraft, have revolutionized the corporate aviation industry. Fractional management companies (FMC) manage all aspects of aircraft operations enabling the owners to enjoy the benefits of private aviation without the associated responsibilities. We describe here the development of a scheduling decision support tool for a leading FMC. We present mathematical models, exact and heuristic solution methods. Our computational results using real and randomly generated data indicate that these models are quite effective in finding optimal or near-optimal solutions. The first phase of the implementation of one of these models at the FMC led to a significant improvement in effective utilization of the aircraft, reduction of costs due to reduced empty moves, and hence increased profits.  相似文献
