The nonlinear optical characteristics of silicate glasses doped with silver nanoparticles are investigated by Z-scan technique using second harmonic radiation of picosecond Nd:YAG laser (=532 nm, =55 ps). The real and imaginary parts of third-order nonlinear susceptibility of silver-contained glasses were measured. It was found that the sign of Im
(3)was negative due to saturated absorption and the sign of Re

We report for the first time to our knowledge on the preparation of colloidal solution of chalcogenide semiconductor As2S3 by laser ablation and the measurements of its nonlinear-optical characteristics using Z-scan method at the wavelength of Nd:YAG laser radiation ( = 1064 nm, = 25 ns). Electrophoresis of biological cells: charge-regulation and multivalent counterions association model
The electrophoresis of a biological cell is analyzed theoretically. An entity, which is of amphoteric nature, is used to simulate its electrophoretic behavior. To reflect conditions of practical interest, we assume that the liquid phase contains mixed (a:b)+(c:b) electrolytes, where a and c are the valences of cations, and b is the valence of anions. We consider the case where the surface of a cell contains both bivalent acidic and monovalent basic functional groups, the dissociation/association of them yields fixed surface charge, and the multivalent cations in the liquid phase are allowed to combine with dissociated acidic functional groups, which has the effect of lowering the charge density on cell surface. The electrophoretic behaviors of a cell under various conditions are illustrated. The results obtained can be used to identify the types of functional groups that may be present on cell surface. On the other hand, if the surface functional groups involved in cell electrophoresis are known, then their density and the associated dissociation/association constants can be estimated from experimental data. 相似文献

Amphoteric refraction of light ray at the interface between isotropic materials and anisotropic materials is analyzed. Depending on the incident angle, the refractive light ray can either refract positively or negatively. This amphoteric refraction phenomenon can be quite prevalent when the difference of the two principal refractive indices is large. Reflection and transmission of traveling and evanescent waves by a layer of material with a negative index of refraction (NIM) is studied by means of the Fresnel coefficients. We derive their values in the “NIM limit”, and we show that this limit is consistent with the exact solution. It is also indicated that simply substituting the negative values of the relative permittivity and permeability of the NIM material into the exact solution leads to incorrect results for evanescent waves. 相似文献

In this work amorphous silicon oxynitride films with similar composition (ca. Si0.40N0.45O0.10) were deposited by reactive magnetron sputtering from a pure Si target under different N2-Ar mixtures. Rutherford backscattering (RBS) studies revealed that the coatings presented similar composition but different density. The mechanical properties evaluated by nanoindentation show also a dependence on the deposition conditions that does not correlate with a change in composition. An increase in nitrogen content in the gas phase results in a decrease of hardness and Young's modulus.The microstructural study by high resolution scanning electron microscopy (SEM-FEG) on non-metalized samples allowed the detection of a close porosity in the form of nano-voids (3-15 nm in size), particularly in the coatings prepared under pure N2 gas. It has been shown how the presence of the close porosity allows tuning the refraction index of the films in a wide range of values without modifying significantly the chemical, thermal and mechanical stability of the film. 相似文献
